Only thing i would have added is performing a loaded (voltage drop) test between the control wire from the P.C.M and the relay pin.. (making sure it's disconnected completely of course) by jumping a wire from the relay pin to ground and then connecting my incandescent test light to power and grounding it through the wire to ensure it can carry current while hot and performing the ol'wiggle test.... just my opinion.. but as usual.. Diagnose Dan Fixed it AGAIN.. great job brother.. love your content and thanks for sharing.. 👍

I have a suspicion that the solder joints on the ECU circuit board just go bad which causes the bad connection (might even be causing that sensor fault code). So the ECU can be repaired by re-flowing the solder for the connectors.

I remember working on a lot of Mercedes back in the day. Non starting when hot was a pretty common problem with the old w201,w124 thru w202 models. Nine times out of ten it was usually a crank angle sensor fault or a cooked fuel pump relay due to a lazy fuel pump. I remember on more than one occasion having a customer come into the shop with a Mercedes that wouldn't start when it was hot. They would normally tell me, I managed to drive it a couple of blocks to get it here, but if I turn it off I guarantee it won't restart. I asked them to pop the hood and I go away to grab some tools, only to return with a glass of iced water and proceed to pour it down the back of the engine block. Then ask the customer to hop in and start the car. The look on their face when the car starts right up is priceless, because they think you're just fixed there car with a glass of water. ! Chilling down the crank angle sensor with ice water is a poor man's reset if you like. It doesn't always work of course (depending on the fault) but I had a lot of success with this method. And it just goes to show you don't need a lot of expensive diagnosis tools if you're doing this at home and don't have a lot of money,. You just need to use a few secret tricks of the trade. Even too this day, I still know mechanics that can't diagnose faults in early Mercedes. Admittedly they can be a little problematic without the right equipment. Great series of videos by the way. Keep up the good work 👍

When this guy showed he was gonna use the IM608 to program the ME I found it funny thinking he must be joking. No way, Jose. IM608 is a mid range diagnostic tool good for keys but not for coding/flashing a Mercedes ECM. Yep, he figured that right, he needed STAR to accomplish the task. Despite the high cost the new Xentry are a beast and a tech who cures MBs for a living does need one. No way around it. Good video. From the beginning when the video started rolling I already knew the ECM was the problem. Common thing on these engine mounted modules. The engineers at Mercedes Benz are some of the biggest jokes in the car manufacturing business! Followed by Land Rover/Jaguar and then BMW.

I do not think MB is alone here... I get the point of putting the ECU on top of the engine, no water to worry about (if not check other cars that place it where there is lots of water) , but also, see the automatic transmission where the ECU is inside, immersed in the fluid ... yeah.

@kc360awareness 3 года назад
@@4BillC oh I totally agree that particular ECM placement is odd. Easy to get to for diagnosis and replacement ... sure, but definitely less than ideal for long service life. The diesel units I referred to are almost always on the lower/intake side of the engine, not the top (that’s the coolest placement I suppose). They are installed with standoffs to allow airflow between the engine and ECM plus do have an ECM temp data PID, so you know it’s being monitored too.
