I would like to tell you that before installing the oil pump and then the reservoir, I first assembled them outside because it was really difficult for me to connect them while the pump was installed, that way, it was easy for me later To install the strap I had to ask for help, I couldn't put the new strap on, it's very difficult for me, could you give me some strategy! That high pitched almost tea kettle type noise the engine makes.. is that normal? i just changed my power steering pump and not only does it whine louder but I also have this high pitched beep noise. Could that be air coming through one of the power steering hoses?

It's hard to say, we didn't pay for this repair and it would really depend on the mechanic. I believe the billing time for the pump is 3 hours. Hope that guides you in the right direction.

This is a really nice video with great explanation and photography. Was the leak just in the power steering pump? Is replacement of the reservoir recommended whenever pump is replaced? I also have 1999 E320--I think this is the car in your video, right? I just found that my power steering fluid is low. There is still fluid in reservoir, but it doesn't touch the dipstick. I've never added (or even checked) power steering fluid in the car car before, in 15 years. I will do a fluid flush. But I don't see any leaks. I will jack up car to take closer look. But is it possible that I may not have a leak and fluid has just coagulated in system?. Thanks.
@fcpeuro
@fcpeuro 9 лет назад
The leak was only coming from the pump on this model and all that was needed was the pump, however since you are essentially flushing the system of old power steering fluid it is best to replace the tank while you are at it, just to prevent any contaminants or old fluid from mixing in.

I'd caution against using Meyle and Febi parts. They're quality is variable. I know it's easy to spend other people's money but I would prefer MB parts or those after-market parts from the quality suppliers. We're doing some suspension work on a 300CE and most parts are MB with Lemfoerder for some rear control arms. Not sure about steering pumps but ZF companies might be worth looking at. All the best and thank you for the video.
@fcpeuro

Take a look at the links in the description, it's about $163 for the pump and $22 for the reservoir. Hope that helps.

FCP Euro. Hello this video was great but the parts in the back of the pump broke off of my engine. I'm not sure what I can do to fix this problem. Both parts on my engine in the back of the power steering pump where the bolts are located are broke off. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to get those part back on my engine so I can install my power steering unit.

My M113 does not come with that type of banjo bolt for the output of the replacement pump. It comes with just a standard banjo bolt hose, which does not reach the fitting on the new pump. Where did you get that 90° hydraulic fitting?

I found a leak in the steering rack of my 1999 E320. One of the steering damper is leaking. I tried torquing it to specs, but still leaks. I know I can replace the two seals inisde. However, it also looks like that the "clearance adjustment" chamber is also leaking. This is the chamber with the star screw head, directly under the two steering damper chambers. Is there a seal in the clearance adjustment chamber that is owner replaceable? I couldn't find it on your parts website. Also, I noticed that regular tightening of the steering damper screws on the steering rack is recommended by Mercedes, so it seems like that maybe leaks at these locations are not uncommon? If you guys ever get a chance on replacing the seals on the steering rack, would really appreciate seeing video on it. No one else has it on Internet.

Great video but couldn't you just connect the resevoir onto the new pump instead of putting the pump on then the resevoir? I only ask because its seems like that may save a good amount of time and energy? the instructions/diy on pelican parts and 1 other RU-vid step by step video both say to switch the resevoir over to the new pump and then go through the reverse process.. any info on that would be appreciated for any future diy'er

Procedure should be identical, as they would use the same base engine yes. Have seen many rebuilt units with good warranties hold up very well, so as long as you are following the same procedure and adding new clean fluid you should be fine. what kind of bolts did you say were at the bottom? I have a 95 c220 and the bolt came off, now the fluid has completely drained out
@fcpeuro
@fcpeuro 10 лет назад
Just a torx bolt holding this pump to the bracket, nothing underneath besides a hose with a quick connect clamp and O-ring, if you are leaking I would think it would be coming from that lower hose, or where that hose meets up to the reservoir. No fluid would be coming out from that lower bolt.
