I’ll stick with my 2020 emerald green with macchiato beige interior with the AMG line. The 2020 reads as a more sophisticated without the large screens inside. But, that my preference and I don’t see a buyer going wrong either way.
I agree completely, I have an Anthracite Blue 2020 S560 AMG Line with porcelain white interior . I have had it since July of 2021, but the W222 gen is my favorite and it’s the one I’d take over the 2021.
As a poor guy, I am lucky to own an old 2007 in mint condition with 107,000 km that's about 70 thousand miles it is loaded and has the rear power seats 4-way climate control night vision and a lot of other features the interior looks new and it drives like a new car smooth and refined. If I am feeling down I hop in and I feel like a king and my frown disappears, replaced with a big smile. My old S class has brought a lot of happiness into my life. I will never be able to afford a new one but I still get a lot of thumbs up and people coming over to say what a nice car she is. In my opinion both the W222 and W221 had a simple elegance in the inside and outside and having a large tablet like screen is not what I would call luxurious. To me, it is more tacky than anything else. Greasy fingerprints all over a screen and black shiny plastic is not classy. I am biased but the interior on my old S seems simple and classy to me very understated the W222 is similar yet a little more flashy and the new one replaces seat buttons that worked fine with buttons that are not responsive and do not move and work on pressure differences when touching them. I also like the redundant switches my W221 has as I do not need to look at a screen and be distracted to do the many things I want to adjust. Another small detail I like on my old girl is my trunk open and close switch is right at the top of the driver's armrest closest to the driver and for an old guy with back issues that is a huge benefit on the W222 they moved it way down on the door panel so you have to stretch forward if your 6 ft. 5 like me or taller it's hard on the back. Another reason l like my old one is that it has all the features an older guy could want i have Bluetooth for hands free phone simple voice control capabilities night vision a super smooth yet still controlled ride headlight washers the new ones do not even have this practical feature that I use very often anymore my old girl does. The safety features and self-driving and parking are things I do not need or want to have more things to fail at least to me the door handles are really a problem waiting to happen and are completely unnecessary and the novelty will wear off quickly as soon as they fail. I understand why younger people like them. I was young once also lol. I think Mercedes should change their philosophy and just build cars that are strong and reliable use top quality parts and construction focus on the ultimate ride comfort put in the tech people like and will use daily but have it hidden behind beautiful woods and leather and some more padding in your seats like in the 70s big barges did so you are more comfortable than you would be sitting in an old Barclay lounger. Use a big V8 so it's under stressed no turbo anything and give the body some character so it stands out from a c class or any of your other sedans.
I saw one too looks okay but the old one at least to me looks like a true S class .The new one is a disappointment . Just my opinion and everybody has different taste but most of the people i have talked to all say the same thing the old interior looked way better.
Good side by side, the older model is more S Class in basically every way. MB will struggle with this new one until they can refresh it and try to get the magic back
I agree the new one looks okay on the outside .The old one to me looks more classy on the inside the new one is like some 12 year old boys idea of techy geekiness. The sales person is having a hard time getting across why the new one is better because anyone with any taste can see the new interior is ugly.
The 580, because the color and sculpture and design is more captivating. The aesthetics seem to keep you staring a bit longer. The interior is a touch more sentimentally attractive. And at 63 I feel on long trips I wouldn't feel I'd become the driver the entire trip. Greenville, SC 6/16/21.
Not overly fond of the 580, The Front driver screen just looks like it was an after thought. The Air vents on top will surely reflect in the window thus causing distraction. I do like the hood lines in the 580, but honestly I will stick with my later s560 I had a chance to purchase a 580 but seeing the exterior and interior I am still happy with my decision. Thanks for the side by side...
I saw a video with an old 1970 something Mercedes wrapped around a brand new AMG chassis and interior. WOW! I know it must have cost a fortune to do that but I could well imagine my 2012 AMG body wrapped around one of these chassis and interiors. I still prefer the Storm Trooper look of the pre-facelift model. Although the 2022 line does have some beauties, there are also some banal looking models. I'm going to have a detailing next week, my annual maintanence the week after, and then visit a corrosion control specialist to ensure to health of the underbody. I'm hoping for a 1 million mile car.
Thanks for doing this! The W223 is the first S-Class that didn't immediately knock me off my feet. That said, I know that it will grown on me and I'll trade my W222 for one in a few years. I'm just hoping that the mid-model refresh can address some of its shortcomings.
Trade it for the W224 if it will be better when it comes out. The dash on 223 looks horrific, no shape to it just a straight line. Looks like a tesla dash. Cost savings in an S, that's just lame from Mercedes...
you need to see the new S Class in person to appreciate the minimal styling, didn't like it at first but after seeing it irl it has such a commanding presence due to its sheer size.
The only options for the price of these should be colour and everything else standard. As long as people pay they will keep increasing the ways they can nickle and dime you to death.
I had very much trouble opening the car door too. Both with and without the key in the car. Seemed like the doorhandles didn't work every time. I found out to pull right at the very edge to the right side. Can see you have the same problems. A little disappointing I must say.
I actually just read a long report from MB te4ch about how we are all disabling the key/car communication by hanging around the car too long. I've gotten much better at it since then.
The exterior and seating areas are nice. I don't mind the front and the up-right grille appears to harken back to earlier models of Mercedes-Benz of years gone by, which I appreciate. The taillights are nothing special. I just can't get into the oversized tablet on the center console and above the steering column. they look like afterthoughts. What happened to sweeping design and integration?
I suspect the non-integrated look may be design for serviceability? A built-in tablet in the dash and elsewhere is a very expensive repair and os not great in the long run.
Very easy! She is expecting commonsense from people. When she says “the right” the only reference point is the viewer since there she in not in the video frame. There is no other mathematical or commonsense possibility.
@@Benzblogger btw great review. I it looks like the door for the cup holders slides forwards and not have little lip that shows up. However, it does look really big and it looks like something Mercedes could of added to like a shifter on the console. But back to the amber turn signals, I hope the new S-Class has them. A big safety feature. But as to the front plate, NYS has front plates and if the grill is shorter a little bit the front plate won't eat into the grill.
THE 2020 IS MUCH more elegant not very many people like the newer one very much at all that sales of the new one are way down I think it's ugly nad I have had several S class models. I would never buy that 2021. Blech ! Also they brag all the time about how they are so safe and kept everything at eye level but I guess they their stupid tablet was more attractive, but it's terrible. Sales are way down on the newer model and it certainly takes your eyes off the road. Mercedes used to be the most incredible cars the news ones are dreadful looking.. The 2020 was a beautiful car and they just ruiend the S Class with the new ugly version. Interesting that sales of the new one are way down because most people think it's ugly as hell.
For larger people, it is a very welcome change for my 300 lb. 6 ft. 5inch frame and my 6 ft. 8 inch 340 lb. friend. We test-drove one lot of shoulder room. He owns a small Ford Ranger and our shoulders touch and we barley fit in it.
