As the owner of a Mercedes SLK350 and a C450 AMG sport, I've been wondering how much has changed and what has stayed the same over the decades of automotive development at Mercedes.
In this episode, I'll compare and contrast these very different cars and discuss what driving them is like as I explore what Mercedes Benz has accomplished over the last 100 years.

Crazy how you have almost the exact cars I do. I have a 2009 SLK300 and a 2017 C43 AMG. I love them both! My SLK I actually shipped to Europe where I now spend a lot of my time, and I have done a lot of work on it to get it back to looking better than new. I still love my SLK that I have had for around 10 years (240k on it) now in some ways more than my C43.

Right on. Benz is the goal. Hope to one day own an amg GT-S. Most aggressive exterior I’ve ever seen, combined with MB luxury - I’d shoot it over any million dollar sports car if I had to choose one

Going down to Miami today to look at a couple of older SLKs, excited to maybe have my own rolling art piece. What happened to the strut bar review, seems to have been OBE?

Hi Scott, good luck in your SLK hunting! Miami is the right place to be this time of year. Once I get back to the track in the next few months I’ll be sure and give some impressions of how the car feels with the strut brace in place.

what year is the 450 ? I too am thinking of a 350, with the manual. they dont make a sl55 with a stick! on your 350 you have anti sway bars added? what model?

My C450 was a 2016. (Was because I’ve just ended my lease and decided not to keep it (it was tough to let go)). My SLK350 has the sport package from MB which has an 10mm lowered ride height and slightly larger sway bars if I’m not mistaken. I’m not sure of their diameter. I’ve added a strut tower brace for extra stiffness. And, no, the 55’s only come auto, so if you want manual, (like I did) you have to go 350 (or below).

The audio and video get out of sync beginning at about 27 seconds.

Hi z, I think RU-vid is doing some throttling. I’ve experienced stuttering on vids I’ve watched from other channels and my tests of this episode have played fine for me. If there was an issue with this file, it would error for all plays. I’ll check it again, but I think it’s a RU-vid issue. Thanks for letting me know.

Why cars need to be look aggressive and menacing ? Specially daily drivers. Owner insecurity?

@@BetweenTheWheels Would a person who's not a car person watch car videos? Specially in a little unknown channel as this? I think there are just different types of car people. Some need to drive lifted 4x4s even if they live in the city and never go off road, need to have flashy cars or aggressive looking cars to feel good. Others like to add body kits to the car and never touch the performance. Literally posers. While yet others worry more about the car's performance. I like beautiful cars. But aggressive? What's the point of a car which looks angry?

@@georgec5479 look at GM pick up trucks. The grill looks like a wall . why would a company make a truck so terrible for aerodynamic? I see your point. The reason is to make it look agressive instead of saving gas and building the truck to be efficient on the highway.

I've been looking for an SLK in a manual trans. Hard to find reasonably priced in the USA , in the 6speed ....
