My Mercedes trunk had now power to any of the lights, and the trunk lid did not open. I dig into the problem myself to see what it is rather than paying someone else to do it.
Thanks for the video. This actually pinpointed my problem on my CLS. First the interior trunk button stopped working followed by the driver door trunk button and all the lights in the trunk. After removing all the wire coverings on the loom which runs along that hinge I found 8 wires in the loom were totally cut. The bend in the loom where the factory attached some zip ties guillotined the wires after years of opening and closing the trunk. Couple connectors to rejoin all the wires fixed everything.
Dude, Thank You for making a great video! This is the same problem I’ve had with my 07 CLS. I tried taking some stuff off to get at that wire but chickened out before I’d found your video. I will be tearing that stuff off and firing up the soldering gun tomorrow! Thanks again for the entertaining video.
Thanks mate! A couple weeks ago had the same problem on my 2007 w211, a minute ago the lid was ok, next minute nothing. Google it, found your video, problem found on the earthing cable ( brown ), some other owner before me had issues there also because i found it soldered, but broken an inch further. Problen fixed! Cheers!
Thanks for the info on how to repair the electrical short for the trunk lock, it really helped. One thing I would recommend is that you are kinder to yourself and not slam yourself as you obviously are a smart, funny helper dude.
1:10 is where he shows how to open the trunk. All the repair videos on this for this model fix it with the trunk open. Not much help if the trunk is closed and you don't know how to open the trunk to get started on the fix. Thank you for that tip!
Thank you for the video bro. I had the same problem. I just want to know the root cause. And I found this video. Some people only know how to critique and complaint. I know you are not a mechanic. So do I. How to do it you have to try it by yourself. You save my money bro. Thanks again.😍
Most of your time is spent complaining about what others have done. Edit all that out and you have a three minutes video: The problem, how to fix it; the tools required, step by step on what to do.
There's no reason that a 7-year-old car should have frayed wires in this day and age. Mercedes-Benz for who they are quality sucks. For what a Mercedes cost this is b*******. Thanks for sharing your video.
Like the set-up of your wheels! ... what is your wheel/tire set-up if I may kindly ask? I have a 2008 E350 Designo Edition with 18" AMG staggered. Would like to apply your set-up. Are you running on on 19" or 20"? How is the ride? thank you for sharing. Also this video helped coz I was driving yesterday for about two hours and suddenly same thing happened to me ...messages start popping up. Got the car at 71k miles....now it has 105k miles
The problem with Mercedes is that an American company bought then their cars became crap. Just like Land Rover became absolute garbage when bought out by TaTa motors. I have done alot of troubleshooting and fixing to my S500, and I still love it.
Great video. Love the self-deprecation. I can relate! :) Did you ever find out what was causing the assist-lift to not work? I have a 2008 CLS where the in car and remote "pop" the trunk open but to lift or close has huge resistance. It is like trying to force a hydraulic without hydraulic fluid. Can't figure it out.
My problem has been the crappy jobs done by so called German auto mechanics. Always get my car problem repaired, but with another issue I’ve never had before that Pops up within days.
Craig I don’t trust mechanics as far as I can throw them. They’re the reason I started working on my own cars. This Mercedes here had an issue with the intake manifold, and shops wanted 6k+ for the job. I did it myself for 550 buck, and it honestly wasn’t that hard.
You talk too much. I was going to just get a simple info on why it’s happening and the fix. I don’t care if you go to the gym three times a day. Or the fraying is caused by…
