Nice video. I am a KP graduate, class of 1977. I was in the dual license program and obtained both 3rd Mate and 3rd Assistant Engineer licenses. I played trombone in the Regimental Band. We marched in President Jimmy Carter's inauguration parade. It's a tough 4 year program but I learned a lot. Great school to graduate from !

I feel that military regamenting hurts the maritime trade I went to Great Lakes maritime academy and many came from other schools just to get away from the regmenting most said they needed to focus on school I feel if you are going to the navy as an officer then regimenting if commercial I say no I met other students who wanted to sail but did not want the regimenting and if the Jones act gets turned over along with the us merchant marine the maritime academies will be a thing of the past don’t get me wrong military regimenting is a great thing but not a fit for all

Merchant marines are part of tge military and dint recieve government benefits. However they can be used as an auxiliary to transport troops and supplies.
