What I love in Merchants & Marauders is how many ways there are to win. You can be a bloodthirsty pirate or a rich merchant only interested in gold and still compete for first place. You can even alternate between the life of a Peaceful Merchant and a Sneaky Pirate depending on what fits your game. Which is really cool.
In Merchants & Marauders 2 to 4 captains decide to go on an adventure. They take command of their ship and set sail from their hometown in the caribbean sea as traders of bananas, sugar or rum. On route they will gain fortune and glory either through trade, plunder, battle, exploration, believing in crazy stories or completing heroic missions. Their ships will grow with their fame and fortune.

Some Rule Clarifications kindly spotted: "NPC never attacks after he moves into the Sea-Zone with a player. According to Rulebook: Hostile NPCs will "scout" for a target player immediately if one of the following occurs:1. The Player moves into the Sea-Zone of a hostile NPC (including moving from port out to sea).2. The Player starts his turn at sea in the same Sea-Zone as a hostile NPC.There is a chance that other players could destroy the NPC before the player must fight with him." - Thank you Libor In minute 14:27 I discuss victory points. Just to clarify, you can only get a maximum of 5 Victory points from exchanging 10 gold for 1 VP but you can stash as much gold as you want. "One minor rules issue when discussing the Long Guns ship improvement starting at 9:23. You show that you get one damage for each cannon, but what you should do is roll a die for each cannon and do damage for the successful rolls only. In your example of rolling one skull and one '2', you would only inflict one damage, not two." - Thank you Rich

@@GamesMadeEasy There is no official "solitaire" version. Since my family is VEEERY casual about board games (my daughter calls them bored games), I had to play this one solo. Because of the random elements, it works pretty well to just lay the cards face up and work each turn as each player with a genuine interest in winning from each place. I haven't played it in over a year though - my wife got angry about how many hours I was spending on it, so I've set it aside for now. :(

Really nice video! Where did you get those custom painted ships? Cause it seems that this game on Amazon comes with plastic ships (full red, full blue etc.)

The boats were painted by a friend; absolutely right, the original ones are solid colours - not as nice :)

im confused on so i spawn a merchant vessel, and choose not to fight right so he stays on board, do we need to keep track of what nation he is from if someone attacks him later or is just the sea zone you are in, How do you know the size of the merchant there are 2 different sizes miniatures for the mercahnts, how do the merchants move after you decide not to kill them Npc captains are they always going to be man of war or frigs or can they be sloops?

Hello, I am sorry for the late reply, it's been very busy! Thank you for your question. I think you are confusing between Merchant Ships and Naval Ships. Merchant ships are represented by the Merchant tokens placed face down on each sea zone at the beginning of the game. They do not have captains and never move. When they are scouted they get flipped. At this point you decide to either keep their nationality as it is or change it to the nationality of the seaport in that same zone. That token will never change again or move, until it is attacked. As for the Naval ships or Pirate ships, they are the ships represented by brown or black ship miniatures. They appear and are activated through the purple event cards. You first place the mini of a Naval ship on the map when you draw its card. You should place it on its respective flag (Naval Token) and then on the sea zone indicated on its card. It enters at the end of the round so it doesn’t fight that turn. Its event card stays face up on the space on the board shown by its flag. If an event card later in the game activates that nation, then it fights pirate ships and selects its enemy as per the rules. The Naval ships are always Galleons, unless their country is at war in which case they are Man O War. Only the Pirate ships (the black ones) have two sizes. The one which only has the skull on its card is the Pirate Sloop. The one that has a skull and bones on its card is the Pirate Frigate. When the NPC captain (Naval or Pirate) is killed the NPC ship is either captured or returned to the supply. I hope this helps you play M&M better.

14:27 it can never count for more than 5 glory points but keep stashing them until you have 10 glory points? What?

That's what I said. For every 10 gold you stash you get 1 glory point.You can stash as much gold as you want but it can never count more than 5 glory points that way.

The video is really good, but the audio quality is quite lacking. The mic seems to be clipping, especially when you are on camera. Really rough to listen to. Please turn the gain down.
