Thanks for the great video (plus the one removing oil from a mercury engine when laid down incorrectly). I bought a second hand mercury 3.5 a week ago, worked perfectly when the guy demo'd it for me. However when I got it home I did exactly what you warned against. Now after your very helpfull videos it works fine again - Big thanks!
Fantastic work sir, fixed and running beautifully, well done, got to brave to fiddle with carbs but you have given me confidence after watching this, thank you.
Thank you so much sir I followed your instructions exactly and problem solved! The last time I took my engine in to have the carburetor serviced it cost me 200 bucks. Very grateful for your detailed video.
Thank you Mark. A great help to se how you did clean your carburettor. Now i feel "educated" enough to do it my self. Thanks again . Yours cinserly Jesper Nørgaard Weng Roskilde Denmark
Thanks I have to do this job tomorrow. My buddy gave me the outboard because there was no spark I adjusted the Magneto and now I have spark but I can tell the carb is gunked up. Been down this road many times before with other engines
Thanks for the video! I have a 3.5 Tohatsu (same motor) with the carb giving me grief. I've had it off twice so far and the bowl is still not filling. I'll get it eventually. That fuel shut off gave me problems as well. I took it off and apart to clean, and new oring on the outside. Its' better now, but still not great to begin with...
Thanks for the clear video. Did you manage to figure out if the fuel shut off valve worked or not? I have the same. It just move too easy and engine won't stop once I switch this valve to off.
I have the Merc 3.5 hp.. I cleaned out the carb a few months ago and I screwed in the spring idle screw all the way when I put it all back together. How many turns out is that screw supposed to be? The engine won't idle unless I twist the throttle a little. If I let the throttle spring back to its resting position, it chokes out.. Any thoughts?
my dads got this outboard with his new boat, and its not ran for more than 15 seconds and nothing for ages. hes had carb off but hes not had much joy. did you use any solvents or cleaners if so what was it? great detailed vid though mate thanks. can show me dad
There's no overflow pipe on mine. When I crank it over it won't start but fuel squirts out the top through a brass nozzle? Maybe the floats sticking? Any advice please?
I think you forgot to clean the idle jet which is on top of the carburetor body not inside the bowl. That jet is so tiny that it is easily plugged and causes idle and start problem.
I have the same problem on this outboard, it is 2020 model approximately on 10-15 hours it was working fine last summer then after 9 months of no use It only work when on choke or if I give half throttle. it does not stay on idle. I changed with fresh fuel and took out the carb and cleaned jets but still have same problem. Any suggestions ?
@Ugur Topsever Same problem here, but the blockage was caused by debris left in from the manufacturer. Always flush a new fuel system😢. Mercury does not warranty any fuel related issue, even when it's their fault!
Tnx for these video..but I cant find anywhere how to replace fuel cock tap knob..red colour for open fuel from tank..if sombody here know please send my a link..
What a hunk of junk motor. I wont work on em. Ughh.. always a headache There is a rubber "plug" in the bottom of the pilot jet that absolutely needs to be in it to run. The dealer will say it doesn't need to be in there but thats their way of putting a $7cdn plug in and charging you $200+. (Carb cleaner usually eats the plug if its over 2 years old, it just disintegrates).
