Article does not mention the fact that the power plant lacks a common component used to remove 99.99% of mercury in stack emissions. Called a Selective Catalyst Scrubber. Just get the Thai conglomerate to install it.

This is ASEAN. All talk and zero action. Money is more important than anything else and governments are in cahoot with powerful corporations. Life is cheap. 20 years from now, there will be other documentaries with the same story.

Just read that Lignite Coal is supplied to Mai Mot power station maybe they should do testing for mercury around Chang Mai and surrounding areas .

That dirty Hungsa powerplant is just 11.26 km from the border of Thailand and 260km from Chiang Mai

Let’s get this right then. A Thai owned power plant is constructed and now operational in Laos but the fall out of mercury is harming the Thais and agriculture 😮 What was the reason for constructing this plant in Laos in the first place? It’s definitely backfired!

Interesting, there is a power plant at Ma Mot in northern Thailand this plant services the north of Thailand and it is between Lampang and Chang Mai not sure what type of coal it uses .

Interesting talking points and much validity to the topic at hand, but is there air, water, soil, analytical data available to share? Is there background surveys taking place, what's the average pH of the rain compared to the rest of the country/surrounding area? Engineers and environmental scientists can figure this all out and come up with a solution, but it won't be cheap.

This documentary should be about how Thai foreign capital is harming the health of Laotian citizens in Laos. I am sure the health issue is worse in Laos

Power plants shouldn’t be near any communities. I hope Thai government looks into all neighboring power plants including the ones in the country and does something about it if it’s causing health issues.

That pollution will only happen when the wind is blowing south. But most of the year the wind is south or south east -west.

Was there any investigation conducted by the "jounnalist" featured here in this video to the "effects" of this particular power plant on the effects of lives in the NE Thailand Region? Perhaps there are data from the relevant Thai Authorities that the "journalist" should look at.

Mercury Harvesting and CO2 from Coal Powered Power Plant are the main reasons.

The powerplant Nam Phan in Laos is called clean energy project. I doubt that it is better

NGOs will be out & loud if the plant fund by China. As they did stop a hydro power plant decade ago in Myanmar.

Investment by Thai and made in Laos and import to Thai !!!!

Steam from the BIG stacks, burn't coal emissions from the skinny stack. In regards to the Data is the burning season being taken into consideration? with crops being burnt and residual herbicide and insecticides going into the Atmosphere via smoke and heat rising etc etc. These all need to be taken into account. Also are those coal fumes being "scrubbed/treated" with new technology? Please name and shame the Thai banks involved. Do the Laos authorities know about this report and that they are 'on the radar'? The least to be done is 'washing' of the emissions (though the 'wash' will probably be discharged into a nearby river).

These beautiful local people, need to start drinking as much cucumber juice as they can to help with the mercury and heavy metals. Even if the Thai government brings cucumbers from further away provinces.🙏

You can't just assume it's the plant. It's conveniently located nearby but the source of the mercury may be elsewhere
