This is 1 of the channels that got me into bike packing. And I've just bought 1 of these bikes not 5 Minutes ago. If Guy has given it a good review then I've no need to worry if I brought the right bike. Got the green and red from tredz
Impressive review, kind Sir! With that, I'm gonna consider this bike for future acquisition since Merida is a locally-available brand here. Lots'a love, coffee-cheers, & Mabuhay, from tropical Philippines!
Great review. I already have a high spec full sus, but looking for a good hardtail as a winter rider and when I ride from home where the trails are less technical. Looked like a fun trail.
@@GuyKesTV Going to get the Big Trail 500 as going to use my Cycle to work scheme and this only allows a bike up to £1200. Same frame and still a 140 travel fork but not as good as the bomber. No brainer with the money I can save through the scheme. I did like the purple of the 600 though lol.
@@scottdonald67 It's great! Was slightly concerned about the entry level fork as I'm used to a high end fork on my Full Sus bike, but it's been fine over rooty stuff and small drops. Bike climbs well and is really agile. Even the stock saddle has been fine on longer rides.
@@GuyKesTV what size was the bike (if you can remember) and what is your height and leg inseam if you would be so kind to answer. I'm 181cm tall with a 75cm inseam and I'm conflicted between a order for XL or XXL. don't see much diference on paper except XXL is longer (which a I want), but I'm still woried I won't make the best choice. My current bike was not bought according my measurements (it's a bit on the small side) and I've learned to adapt to it in time.
Good farm bike for New Zealand 🇳🇿 farmers and probably a really good basic reliable fleet bike. I have had Merida bikes for about 10 years and they are very reliable and good value for money 💰
Got mine about 2weeks ago. I must say it's a absolute gem to smash around Leith Hill and the rest of the Mole Valley. Anyone that does get one should have some proper pedals ready as it comes with plastic flats with no grip.
Absolutely loved this bike from the moment I saw it. So much I placed an order on one only to find out after the expected wait time of 3-4 weeks had changed to just over 10 months. Got my money back and will put it down on something else. It's a shame that only a few of these will make it to AUS for the lucky people who ordered earlier. Wish I was one of them! Haha
Hi Guy, great review as usual, just a couple of questions, one hopefully you can answer, maybe not the other one? What is the maximum width tyre the bike can take? A Rocky Mountain Growler takes 2.6 tyres easily, can the Merida match that? Secondly, why do Merida build a bike that's designed for the UK market, influenced by UK riders, launch the bike in cracking green/red colour combo. and then say it's not available over here in that colour, we get a two tone horrible purple for the flagship model? Hoping to get my hands on one of these, but may have to try one of the mail order stores from Europe to get that colour scheme? Merida kicking the LBS "in the balls" with drab colour schemes for the UK market. Can we start a petition to get Merida to bring that colour scheme to the UK?
You'd get a 2.5 in no problem but I reckon it'd be very tight with a proper 2.6in. And no idea why this colour isn't coming into the UK, it's even better in the flesh 🙄
Hi Guy, found out from Merida that because the bike is UK designed they have a "special colour scheme" unique for our market! Whoever thought of the purple must have been pissed at the time?
He already did review it I believe some time ago on bike radar site but thats the older v2 version... I've got the v3 version thats on sale currently if uve got any questions Im happy to answer
I just preordered this green/red 600 version for HKD$8,892 at my LBS in HK. That converts to approx GBP$890. I don't know why it sells for GBP$1500 in other cities?
Hi Guy - I’ve just ordered a 600 on special sale from Tredz. I know Stainburn is one of your local runs (15 mins from me, too) but I’m wondering where you recorded this video review? The trail looks great, and I’m hoping it’s still local-ish for me to try out my soon-to-be not-so-shiny new ride 😊 TYIA
I didn't know at the time (I thought it was just bruised) but I actually had a broken fibula (lower leg) which meant it was hurting to jump, so I just kind of hoiked the front wheel and hopped. Twig kickstand FTW every time 🤣
Originally I ordered this 600 model at my LBS in overseas back in mid September, the shop said it should arrive by November. However, the shop called today and said the shipment is delayed till next year April/May coz the other components such as drivetrain etc. made by Shimano are in shortage, and so even if Merida could produce solely the frame on time, they couldn't deliver the complete bike!! Anyone facing similar problems?
Mine was due sept. Then end of Nov. Yet to speak to my LBS. Looked at tredz website which now says August 2021 for the 600. Silly me sold my old 29er in preparation....
@@oliverp4115 August 2021!! That's nuts! I also sold my carbon fiber 26er for this one. I now have no mtb to ride but a 14 inch wheel folding bike. lol. Wonder if I should really wait for this Merida 600 at this specific color and parts? or if switching to other colors and lower spec models would help speeding up the delivery?
Great video! But is the frame really that good? I mean the frame is the heart of the bike, the only part I won't upgrade. So is it at least double-butted?
HELP!!! My height is 1.73cm-1.74cm (5'7 - 5'8) and my inseam is 82cm (32). I take size M or L?? The page tells me size M but having a relaxed geometry (65.5 degrees) and having a short seat tube, I don't know if I would be comfortable in a size L. What do you recommend me?
I feel a little trembling about so fast movement. Do you record this video in normal speed? Just curious, I am fresh and just going to buy a Merida trail.
If I could get your opinion......I'm 187cm tall, 89 inseam, 60cm arms and quite broad. I can't find one to try and sit on and I could get an XL on a discount online. Will it be big enough? Merida site places me on an XL but its making me nervous when everyone says to size up. 😬
Great review. Looking at the Big Trail 400 myself for my first MTB. At 6"2 and with a XXL now, im unsure whether to go for the XL or size up to the XXL. Any advice?
Great review, the new big trail series sounds great! Unfortunately, a bit out of budget for me as I can find a Big Trail 400 on sale for £725. Any recommendations on size? Would you suggest sizing up to the XXL (500 reach) or sticking with the XL (475 reach). It's my first MTB so no idea how these numbers relate to real world feel, and unfortunately can't try before I buy.
Hi I’m interested in buying this bike , but I can’t buy it in my country Hungary 🇭🇺.If you know a place anywhere were can I order it please contact me back
Hi Guy, what do you reckon to using this for technical natural trails with some 2-3 foot drops?? Is it designed to be a do it all hardtail it is it focussed more on keeping the wheels on the floor.. Cheers
Hi! I have several questions about this bike. Is the red color at the top of the frame a sticker or paint? on the merida website they say he weighs 12kg and how much do you think he really weighs?
Hiya Guy. If you had the choice between this and the aluminium santa cruz chameleon, no budget, no comparing the components just based on the two that you have reviewed, if you had them both sat in your garage which would you choose to ride?
If you take price out of the equation then I’d probably go Chameleon as ride quality is amazing for alloy and you get the singlespeed option and a lifetime warranty. It’s impossible to give a definitive call on the ride without testing them head to head though and the Merida feels great for the money, esp with the bigger tyre
@@GuyKesTV thanks guy, appreciate that. Hopefully next year if all the madness dies down il actually be able to find and buy one of them. Love your reviews. Have a good christmas.
I've been looking at this as a good all rounder for my n+1. At 5'10, I'm smack in the middle of M and L sizing but based your review Guy it feels like the L would be the way to go?
Ey up Lachlan, I’m 180cm and I’d be tempted to go XL for the reach, especially as you might still grow a bit. A large will be easier to flick and Chuck around if you’re more into jibbing than just fast downhills.
i was the same, went for the large, I was told the sizing only changes the reach not standover on this model. I am 180cm tall, arm length 59cm inner leg 76cm. Large is perfect for me
Hi Jose, for a mix of OK on easy trails and easier pedalling on the road then Grand Canyon is a classic old skool cross country hardtail. If you want a bike to help you ride more interesting stuff off road and are happy to have more of a slog on the road to get there/back then I'd go Merida or the new Canyon Stoic. If most of your riding will be road with an occasional exploring of easy (not too steep or rocky) trails then maybe even have a look at a gravel bike like the Canyon Grail or Merida Silex. Hope that helps.
I would check your inseam in terms of standover. My girlfriend is 5'5 and I wanted to grab Small big.trail 600 for her, but Merida or it's dealers will not ship S sizes here at all(( Probably will have to go with Orbea Laufey
@@StepXX i was torn between the laufey and this. I got the merida as the laufey wasnt available anywhere until july 2021. Laufey looks mean but the is understated and I like that too
