THANK YOU ! - Born and raised in Meridian (poor white) left at 10 years old, family moved to calif (looking for work). Me and my sister would go up the 3 foot building and always say WOW ! it's sooooooooooo big. I googled earth and found where our house was, it's now a dirt lot. It was a good life for me, I could ride my little bike anywhere ... and I did. Now at 77 years old, still Meridian pops up in my memories'
First time I've ever seen a dude drive past a sign that says "Jimmie Rodgers Museum" and pay it no attention, drive past a restaurant with a neon sign that says "Since 1870" and pay it no attention, drive past a gigantic Arts & Entertainment Complex with flashing billboards and pay it no attention, drive past blocks & blocks of historical architecture and pay it no attention, but practically jizzes all over himself uncontrollably when he spies a Bed Bath & Beyond, an Applebee's, and a Kickin' Crab.
You didn't come to see the town and learn about it. You came to find something or someone to make snide remarks about. I remember a classmate making a presentation on some research, and his opening line was, "I found what I expected to find."
hood = short or informal word for Neighborhood. Seams like YOU are the one with issues to address. I come from Florida most "hoods" there are NOT black we dont even have black its all Latino or other island people like Haitians which are our brothers same culture and food. Your assuming too much and knowing too little.
You were near the hood around the 18 minute mark. Just turn left or right. Actually for any city, just look for a road named Martin Luther King and you will be in or near the hood.
That’s my home town . I never met some bangers at a young age haha. It feels nice seeing all these familiar roads . It makes me want to go back and visit my family
I dream of living in the US. I’ve always wanted to live there. I’m currently watching videos like this to see what it’s like, with no editing. I hate it here in the UK, there’s nothing good about it besides the free healthcare
My goodness, the things you are saying are just sad. I know they are just your opinion but, this is my first time hearing people talk bad about my city. First timers usually love it.
@@big2oot189 oh please stop whining I myself won't even live in Mississippi its the worst state for fat and obesity people. You guys even had oprah Winfrey out in meridian trying to help the people to lose weight. This was a couple of years ago....
Meridian has a tremendous amount of friendly people and I wished you would have stopped and talked to a few. A drive through does not paint the true essence of the city. You mentioned that no people were out and about downtown. Prior to the early 1970s, before all the stores moved to the mall, downtown was the place to shop, see a movie and meet with friends. Memphis had Beale street and we had 5th street where everyone congre\gated.
Agabe store house Church moved to another Location in the city.... They Started having too many people and had to move...Agape Store house church still Exists
Are you obsessed with the "HOOD?" I'm watching as I type. And these "HOODS" are safer than any other place. And the city is very large. Larger than Montgomery.
You CAN'T SHOWCASE A CITY UNLESS YOU KNOW WHERE TO GO. HANGING AROUND DOWN TOWN AREAS IS A DEPRESSED AREA LIKE ALL OTHER CITIES. YOU NEED TO VENTURE ON OUTSKIRTS AROUND THE CITY. IN OTHER MISSISSIPPI CITIES YOU MISS THE JEWELS AROUND THE DYING CITIES.
This is not at all representative of Meridian, MS. Meridian is a town full of history with interesting, educated people. It is a beautiful place with some of the most gorgeous old oak and maple trees in the world. It's a shame you couldn't have shown the pretty trees, lakes and ponds around the city and have done a driving tour of the beautiful Naval Air Station Meridian. If you had seen the exceptional architecture of grand historic homes on 22nd Avenue and Poplar Springs Drive you would have changed your opinion of this quaint little town. There are many things to see, such as the Jimmie Rogers Memorial and one of the few remaining Denzel Carousels in the world at Highland Park. There is an old Opera House that has been restored showing the very interesting history of the city. There are great restaurants (Jean's Restaurant, family owned, with home cooking, and the very elegant Weidman's Restaurant since 1870 with world class chefs. I would recommend that before you publish a video for you tube you do some research and choose your driving tour more wisely with stops now and then to talk with friendly merchants and homeowners to get the real flavor of the city. In every city there are depressed areas. By showing only the most depressed areas, you are doing a huge disservice.
You must not have seen the article about Meridian being the MOST dangerous city in MS. Not going to go into details but the stuff I've been through and seen here...yeah it's pretty bad.
This is my home town bro. You didn’t touch the Northside or the Eastside. Besides downtown you mainly drove thru the west side. Siri was trying to keep you safe!!!😂😂
@@carrieadcock1250 Isn't baton rouge just as bad? HEY! actually I got a question. so this past weekend, I was driving back from Kentucky, and I happen to pass up a house on fire just by interstate 12. I can't seem to find it in the local news there.. know anything about it?
Very nice, inspiring video. Well maintained, decent town, though not reach. Smooth slopes, straight roads positively reveals its beauty landscape and scenery. This video is biasing people to move to Meridian. Home prices and low taxes make it affordable.
He would say the same thing about Tupelo because I've watch some of his videos before and all hr do is drive around in Mississippi just to talk bad about it. He even called Ocean Springs very depressing and said the same thing about Madison.
Just to let you know, the part where you think was part of the suburbs... That's where most of the killing happens at. The only part of town that shuts down early. 💜💜💜 What's with the Mississippi Burning statements? Do you see people of other backgrounds and of different shades as your brothers and sisters? Please give and Honest answer.
I just want to know the answer. Simple question and you couldn't answer. You are so closed minded. Everything was about the hood when you opened your mouth. You "think" the hood is bad. And only the devil seek out the bad.
That is a simple minded statement. Have you all over the state ? Probably not. Or are you basically going on what other people say and think ? There's good and bad about every State in our Great country . Don't judge a book by it's cover . Meridian has a rich history good and bad . Most places do . This video was filmed by an uninformed person. Do research on a Town or State before you bash it. 🤔
@@billyligon6619 I’m cynical, meant no disrespect. Met great people out there, but never really gave it much of a chance, I’m sure there’s a lot I missed out on
OK so I’m house shopping there and I’ve never seen any of this that you’re showing me so I think you got very selective in what you decided to show so when you do another video please put down that you are only looking at the worst neighborhoods and filming that thank you
