I put it on the Paul's Wetheads page about having two different badger brush types and sizes. I was able to look thru my notes and it was around 40 lathers for the new kingsley badger brush that it really started to soften. At 53 shaves, I compared the new Kingsley to the old one that I have had for 26 years and softness wise, it matched each other. In regards to the larger Omega badger brush 6215, the knot seemed to never want to release the lather. Finally on the 51st use of the Omega, the knot released the lather to the face as it should, instead of eating it.

I bought some of that soap about 2 years ago - 2 shaves and in the bin. I've purchased some Oatcake Mahogany recently and it's a great soap. It smells like grandma's baking a cake. Anyway, thanks for another great video. All the best to you both.

Happy Sunday Paul! Mrs. H is doing an outstanding job with those flowers...well done again!! That voice introduction almost sounds like BBC 1 of yesteryear. Yes, that Simpson Chubby 2 synthetic is expensive. I manage to get a nice discount for mine, but it is a bit of a sticker shock to see the full price. It is a lovely brush all the same. That Funky soap is a modern Williams wannabe...lol. Those Personna Med Prep blades are very good...there is a box of 100 setting in my den. Speaking of blades, I counted my stash yesterday and found I have 41 plus years of blades on hand (assuming 18 shave days per month and averaging 6 uses per blade). OMG...I will be 99 years old when I need to buy more blades. SOTD: 1960 Gillette Super Speed Blue-tip loaded with a Feather Hi-Stainless blade (4th use). TOBS Coconut shaving cream lathered with a Simpson Chubby 2 synthetic brush. Traditional 3 pass plus pick-ups shave. Finished with Thayer's Coconut Water skin toner. I managed a BBS result that lasted about 16 hours. The Gillette Blue-tip is mild, but loaded with a Feather it provided a close and comfortable shave. No irritation and just one weeper around the corner of the mouth. The Post Person delivered boxes from Stirling Soap Company (bath soaps really...love these natural soaps) and PAA (3 afershaves: Cad, Sacre Bleu, and Doppelganger Grey...plus more blades. lol). I made a shave much like this one here recently. Three-piece d.e., bath bar soap from an artisan maker who also makes shaving soaps. Good lather initially but was completely unstable when put onto the face. Mostly good two-pass shave. No cuts. Comfortable post-shave feeling. Strong residual lubrication between/after the passes.

Like you I make myself laugh, as a newbie to this wetshaving following after giving up in my teens (40 odd years ago), since lockdown this is what I got into! A Stag B6615 badger hair brush. I'm very much liking the looks of these new synthetic ones however. Again, great shave, and stay well

Good morning Paul, great clip as always. Since I am having that wet shaving addiction I'm making shaving soap myself and so I tried many different recipes over the years. So I found out if there is not enough stearic acid in the recipes "50% and up" you dont get the creamy lasting lather we all like. Have a great Sunday and stay safe 🪒🧼💈

Nicely done Paul💈💈 Well I'd have to say the star of this shave was the Personna Med Prep blade, nice and close😬 Too bad the soap didn't lather up, that's always a bummer. Good thing there was some slickness as the presence of claret was beginning to clash with those beautiful flowers displayed by Mrs H😎 SOTD: vintage Shulton Old Spice all the way, soap/splash/cologne, Simpson No59 badger, vintage Gillette Aristocrat w/Personna Red blade, alum, witch hazel and AV 5 in 1 balm...Stellar👌 Great video as always. stay safe. A brave shave :) I have two ‘organic’ soaps that come in a bar form, but I also couldn’t get a consistent lather out of it and the slickness wasn’t too good. So I gave up on them. I was curious how yours would be but apart from the slickness not much difference. I also like some cushioning and protection in a lather so I prefer a thick and creamy lather over this ‘frothy’ type of soap that you usually have to clean your dishes with :p I hope you had a great weekend! Your Sunday shaves are the best. I do appreciate your reviews of those not-so-well-known products. There are many excellent and modestly priced shaving soaps that provide both slickness and lather. It would be interesting to see how many hand soaps on the market could be used for shaving. My shower soap has excellent slickness just based on how many times it slips from my hands. Great shave Paul. I have the identical brush, which has been unused for a while. I will have to ratch it out. I expect it will be a really good brush for lathering Mitchells (or other hard soaps) as it has a lot of backbone.

I recently got the 37C slant but it seems I always cut myself to ribbons with it. Beyond that, just like you said, it doesn't feel any different from any other Merkur razor at all. Love my 30C though!

I recently acquired a Chubby two synthetic, as I wanted a brush that was ethical, well made and good value. Initially the signs were not good. My face was left feeling tender. But I think I have figured it out and it is whipping up some amazing lathers out of virtually nothing. While viewing this video, I took a bar of unscented soap that I purchased from a local maker and made a lather out of it. I was left with two big hand fulls. It probably isn’t as slick as the stuff you’re using here.

I've used this before, same conclusion. I ended up using it in the shower. But they have fantastic hair shampoo bars which I buy often, good price too.

For me, slickness is absolutely key as pillows of lather are unnecessary. Which is why modern Williams Mug also works well for me. Sure, it dissipates with hard water but it's slickness is unrivaled. Dinner menu tonight shall include bratwurst wrapped in bacon, served on a bed of sauerkraut topped with pepperjack/mozzarella cheese and diced red bell peppers with homemade sweet potato french fries and washed down with a few pints of lager. Cigar for encore. SOTD - Slim, Gillette Super Thin blade (new), Williams Mug Soap, homemade AS, Nivea Sensitive balm. All the best, Paul.

I used Barrister and Mann's Terror and froze my face off. Lots of synthetic menthol in it. So cold. Highly recommend if you want a really cold shave.

Great shave Paul I always end up with plenty of weepers using my 37c. Shame about the soap but always worth a try. SOTD is DE89 with 3D handle Feather blade Ingram shave cream. With Old spice aftershave and Nivea men aftershave balm. MOTD is Roast Pork carrots cauliflower and broccoli with new potatoes and lashentoes of gravy. Very nice shave sir. Would’ve been a great soap for travel if it would’ve created a great lather. Maybe it can be used as a pre-shave soap.

The soap to me anyway seemed a bit disappointing. I prefer a thicker creamier lather for my shaves. Enjoy your week 🙂

Great commentary! Does the soap have olive oil? If it does that makes it tough to get a good lather. I have had a couple and found that you have to bloom it and load heavy with a well shook out brush and build the lather slowly. Just a thought. Beautiful arrangement by Mrs H as always! Cheers!

Hello, Paul how are you, I use Merkur 37c, the shorter version of this razor daily with Gillette 7o'clock super platinum black blade, that gives a very close and comfortable shave but a nice creamy lathering soap is must otherwise it can bite being an aggressive razor but glides very well over the face.

On another note...is it just me or when you shave atg under your chin as you raise your head up to gain better access I find myself doing the same!

Is it hard to line up the side burns if the blade is slanted?

I still think you should do an entire video as Prince Charles. And I think the aloe is included for its protective properties. I don't believe it has much of a scent other than a mild plant smell.

For that price you could use it as a pre shave soap.

Great shave. The lather looks shitty as it’s inconsistent, not creamier and thick. It overall looks disappointing to say the least. My SOTD tomorrow is of the KCG razor with the Gillette 7 O’Clock Yellow blade just like last time, the Proraso White and Skin Bracer.

You cut yourself too many time because of the "3-2-1-PickUpTime" stage of your shave. If you could just keep your shaves at maybe three passes, you would avoid many of the cuts.
