I too sold my merkur futur, and you sold me on the baby futur when you first showcased it.

Going back to face a mortal enemy after the bloody battles of the past should definitely be applauded. Like you I really love the simplicity and organic look of the brush. A beautifully controlled result.

yep two things you need with a Futur: a light touch and respect for the razor. It was the first razor when I came back to DE shaving, big mistake but it soon taught me to hone my technique :-) It does give an exceptionally close shave

The Kootenays are just north of where I’m from in the lower Fraser valley, near Vancouver, my mom lives in Kelowna a city in that region. Neat to see you using soaps local to where I’m from, and I love my highland springs soaps as well.

A treacherous reunion that I never thought would happen. Your technique did save you! I could not believe you started the first pass on 6! You're off the bloody chain! The feedback was insane. It sounded like a car being crushed. I give full marks for bravery. I would have applied he pre-shave oil by Truefitt & Hill as an added precaution for this scalpel. Albeit good, this vegetal base did dissipate on the cross grain, and against the grain passes. The brush was magnificent in design and performance. I have a head from Maggards on a Rod George handle and that sucker feels more aggresive than my Future.Merkur razors have always been kind to my face and the Future works good for me.Thanks Kevy for the videos.👍

Glad u gave it another try. Im also new to DE & was gifted a Futur. I was a little reluctant to use it! I’ve used it twice now on 1 & 1.5 and it’s perfect for me even at that! No cuts or knicks yet. It’s very smooth & efficient for me. I can’t imagine using it on 3 or higher😂

I was recently gifted a Q Shave/Ming Shi Future clone and have to say that it is very tame. Thankfully!

Morning Kevy! Loved the video, usually watching these videos of an older razor makes me want to go back to the box in my closet with the words on it "Dads razors, Dont throw out!" It is where I relegate all my razors not being used. Current occupants are my Futur, Parker Variant, Parker 96R, a 1960`s Gillette Fatboy(mint), and a Gillette Tec clone. My one razor to rule them all has been my Rockwell 6S. Every now and then I will catch a video like this take one of those out and give it a try....but they always find themselves back in the box! For me you just cant beat the perfection of that 6S. The Futur was just way too aggressive for me...and it NEVER left setting one. Have a great day Kevy!

Great video Kevy. I have been bitten badly by my Futur when adjusting it. Just a tip. When adjusting , it helps to hold the handle between index and middle finger , with thumb on top. Dial the handle with the other hand. It’s impossible to cut yourself. Slipping and cutting is impossible. I also find it too aggressive. Try it with a personna blue. It tames it a bit. Great videos ! The Futur is my go to razor since 96. My facial hair is like steel wool and it is the one that gives me the best shave for face and for the past 8 years, my head as well. I start with a 4 with most new blades and adjust as they get milder with use. Great video!

Kevy !!! For someone who likes open comb safety razors (efficient), the sound they make is wow music to my ears, the feedback is obvious and of course, it is time that you use open comb more often, by the way I loved the brush in its simplicity its magic is the design itself is ergonomic and practical.

Hi Kevy, it was really funny how you said it's not very safe adjusting the razor with wet hands, as you know this was the first razor I bought when I started wet shaving maybe a bit foolish as it was number 2 in the razors not to buy when starting! I watched Geofatboy he used this razor and he said never adjust the razor with wet hands, in a moment of brain fade I did and it sliced my thumb open blood every where lesson learned? I have never used setting 6!! I call this razor Dracula as it always draws blood. 😂😂😂🤣🤣 great shave mate. Cheers. 😎👍

I have HSSC Eclipse, from The Shaving Time on sale, and it is a superbly performing soap(and splash) and smells amazing.

Futur is very aggressive. I keep mine on 1 and use Derby blades which are less sharp (than Feather or Shark). Can't ever imagine using it on setting 6!

I use my merkur futur every now and then. Yes, very aggressive especially for me, because I have sensative skin. You should try the winter reserve from derby city chop shop. Great stuff and I think you'd like it. Great video as always! Give my best to Riley and Mrs kevy.

I gave my Futur to one of my sons. Great shaver but an ungodly beast of a razor to wield.

Everybody hate the Futur, but everyone have one or test one ... You must use it from 3 to 1 ... don't push it to 6 just to try it ... And low the angle ...

That was the first modern DE razor I ever bought. It was my daily driver for several years. I never had need for any setting above a 1. Plenty aggressive even if I skipped a day shaving. Yep. Even on 1, that baby will cut! Great video, thanks.

Nice shave Kevy you would not catch me using that razor I do not like a lot of blade feel. I got HSSC Reflections set on a trade and it was ok. I will probably get rid of it and try Kootnay Blue and a couple of other HSSC. I think I tried Green Door from them and loved it. Have a great weekend.

Hay Kevy I think the Tatara Muramasa is a MUCH better looking and user FRIENDLY razor. Thats just my opinion :)

4/4/3 for me BBS every time. I recommend using a Perma Sharp blade. Great shave

I got a Futur as a gift 6 years ago when I first got into DE shaving. Lot of blood and irritation. I shelved it until recently. I tried it at 1.5 and with better techniques and light pressure. It still is my most aggressive razor but you can get a near barber close shave. I will definitely keep it around. Maybe not my daily but for times I am looking for a super close shave. The Futur needs to be adjusted to. For example, the excessive buffing over exposed skin is unnecessary. Once mastered, it is one of the most efficient and consistent safety razors on the planet. You can easily do a 1-pass shave at 5.5 or 6. Anything more than 2-pass with spot cleanup is also unnecessary. Another pro tip, I also recommend adjusting it by holding it like a shadow puppet or curveball pitch around the top and bottom of the head then spinning the handle with your other hand. Would not recommend spinning the head to make the adjustment, even with a towel.

3 passes, pick ups... and it STILL sounds like me scratching my scrote! Incredible.

Great shave. I’m glad you finally had the guts and a change of heart to go back to the Futur razor after all these years. Don’t be scared to go back to the aggressive razors that everyone loves but you hate. The only aggressive razor I have is the Maggards Slant, which doesn’t get much use, but it does an excellent job taking down my 3-4 day growth. I’m thinking of getting another aggressive razor, but only time will when that’s gonna happen

Very nice shave sir. I gave my Futur away as a gift to a family member to get them into wet shaving. I wasn’t too crazy about it, I may repurchase in the future.

Being an old tree climber I like anything that is tree or plant related, cool brush...

The best shaves I get are when I use my Merkur Futur but like you it took a few years before I mastered how to use it. BBS with no nicks or cuts. 😁

That's my favourite razor I use it on setting 5 or 4.5 and sometimes when I prefer a close shave I use it on setting 6 works best with a feather on second use

I'm commenting because your story caught my attention as the same thing with this particular razor happened to me. Except I swallowed my pride and placed it to ZERO after a close examination of the humungous blade gap (not to mention the huge gutter [I found a homeless guy sleeping in there the other day]. It felt a lot to me like a Rockwell 6s on #5. Really really good shave!

Futur clone was my first razor when I decided switch to the safety razor. It didn't felt safe at all😳... I bought DE89 and used it without any fear for first few weeks. Perhaps I will try futur again, same as Mr Kevy in 4 years time. Now I'm using another adjustable razor with lower fear factor. Great video again.

Dang bro starting at 6! I normally do a two pass with mine. Wtg @3-3.5 Atg @.5-1 The razor is adjustable, but only from aggressive to super aggressive!

I think not only did your tech improve but your probably better at lathering aswell which makes a huge difference in safety razor shaving

There is "chatter" (the trembling effect) to the blade when shaving with this razor. Though the blade is fixed in its place, the blade still, somehow, vibrates as the stumble is being removed. I have the Futur myself & haven't used it for ages -- like yourself years. Also, in my opinion, it's an ugly, cumbersome, clunky-looking thing. The Progress is infinitely, infinitely more aesthetically pleasing. Oh well, I'll pass my Futur to a hairy Himalayan Yeti on Christmas day :)

That's exactly what I did first time using my Futur. My fingers slipped when adjusting the dial... claret everywhere 🥴🤢. Loving that brush though. I bought one of the Scoth Barrel brushes from Ian at the Gentleman's Groom Room a couple of years ago and matching razor. Look stunning in natural wood

Great video Kevy!! I don't like the look of the Futur so bought the Q-shave copy instead. That is a great razor and is very aggressive on setting 6. I have to try my Wilkinson classic butterfly again soon! It's been a year or so since it sliced me up so when I'm feeling brave I'm going to bite the bullet!! Take care mate, Dave.

Great lather. I got the, "Baby Merkur". Wow was it heavy!! Great freakin shaves. I paid $15 on amazon for it. In my regular rotation. You have to get used to the bulkiness though.

Never had a Merkur Futur, but do have the clone Qshave which gives a brilliant shave👌take care. Cheers🥃😷

Great video sir. I shave with a Merkur Progressive but just purchased a Merkur Futur as a gift for my son. Would like another for myself. I really like my Progressive adjustable and have fun trying out various blades and soaps.

Glad you gave the Futur another shot. I love mine but never use 6 unless taking off a beard. The Nacet is not the best choice either. I use Voshkod for a great irritation free shave with two or three days growth for bbs.

Just completed my head /face shave with the futur on setting 4, zorrick super platinum blade 2nd and final use. Blood free too but lm a professional 😁👍 I'll watch your video now.

Kevy , I love My Merkur Futur in gold . I find it works best with a Voskhod blade . I would suggest trying one in the razor . You may find it is a better combo . stay safe

Hello, Kevy, FUTUR is a very nice but on the other hand very aggressive and uncomfortable razor, even on the lower settings also, I am not able to use it as my daily go to razor 👍👍👍

....I hope you disassemble this one completely (more than taking off just the top cap) so it will dry properly...I have one (polished version) that aquired some corrosion deep inside believe or not. And I live in Arizona.

I own a Merkur Futur. I don't use it, but not because of its shaving qualities. I don't use it because it's just too heavy to have such a smooth handle, the handle needs to be knurled. As it's sold I consider it dangerous.

Not a big fan of the futur as well. My main driver is the Rockwell 6S and the 34C if I have very little stubble. But I seem to gravitate mainly toward the 6S. Great video as always Kevy take care.

Dear Kevy, Merkur Future was the very first DE razor I bought back in 2002. Even though I bought almost 30 different pieces of DE razors since then, I do love this piece of stuff and I bought the golden one kind of this last year. I adore them, but I have to admit that I use them on setting 2, 2 and half max. I am not dare enough...Should I try 3, or 4?

Kevy💈💈 Brave but nice shave. I'm not a fan of aggressive razors with super positive blade exposure, just not comfortable to use and always worrying about irritation IMO. I rarely see a RU-vid shaver that doesn't get some blood using these razors, for the sake of theatrics I'll forgo their agony and enjoy the video laughing all the while. The soap looks good and the scent sounds nice. Great video and hope the irritation doesn't come later knocking on your door. Take care.

This is one razor that doesn't interest me at all. The only reason I am watching is that I love your videos and we tend to have many of the same preferences shaving. In my opinion, the Futur is the ugliest razor ever made and it sounds like the blade is slapping you in the face. The razor has a HUGE unwieldly head on it. Also, the blade gap is absolutely ridiculous, you might as well just hold the blade in your hand and scrape lol. This razor looks absolutely terrible in every way for me.
