The quest card at 5:44 means 4 influence in any (multiple) princpality. Rules for the quest card which requires to have two specific vassals in a single principality specifically say “any ONE principality”, while for influence markers they just say “any principality” And this also answers your doubt at 12:43, where you scored your quest card which would require both vassals in the same principality

Thanks for the clarification :)

This game looks super interesting. Being able to go counterclockwise on the rondel by using the Merlin dice is a clever touch.

Yeah, I think my favorite part is the merlin going back or forth.

I completely wrote this game off because of all the negativity I saw around it, but after watching this playthrough, I really feel like the game looks fun. Might have to try it at some point. Thanks, Jon!

I’m very new to Feld games. Castles of Burgundy is only one I’ve played at this point, but I just got Merlin in. Very excited to play after watching your video! Thank you!

32:32 That card you drew looks like cubes (building materials) not the octagon influence markers, as compared to the one already in your hand. Great playthrough. Enjoyed watching this.

Thanks for pointing that out, I've added a correction to the Klingon subtitles.

Like I've said before the rondel is a majorly underappreciated game mechanic. It provides decisions but not so many to cause analysis paralysis and potential for other mechanics to seamlessly be added on like the dice here. I like how this game gives you many different means of gaining points so you always have something to do. Excellent work as always on this video.
@JonGetsGames

I also love rondels, and it's cool how this one adds complexity with Merlin who is a separate controllable figure who can also break the normal direction restriction.

48:40 - It is definitely 4 in any principality not 4 in the same principality.
@magemage5659
@magemage5659 5 лет назад
yeah in general the rulebook, says any and specific and with any I'm pretty sure it also means, any combination. And elsewhise this one card would basically be impossible, considering the fact that you remove down to one influence after every two turns, which would mean you would have to put (with one already being there) three influence on that one principality in two turns.
@JonGetsGames
@JonGetsGames 5 лет назад
@@magemage5659 I looked it up while filming and the only BGG thread I could find essentially had a bunch of people saying different things but had no official stance. I agree that 4 in an area would be very difficult, but the opposite of 4 anywhere seems super easy considering influence is one of the main ways you get points.

@@JonGetsGames Looks like the official rule came out and all 4 do not have to be in the same location: www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/2014857/article/34156406#34156406

@@JonGetsGames OK, but where can we find the video with your impressions about Merlin? Did you like the game?
@JonGetsGames
@JonGetsGames 5 лет назад
@@graphycus I did one of these last year, though I subsequently realized we played some very key rules significantly wrong. Because of this my impression there was quite negative. This playthrough is the only time I've played it since, so I haven't updated my impressions of it just yet. I really should get it played correctly again so that I can rectify it. I can say I think I enjoy it way more when played correctly, but can't say more until I get it played correctly with other opponents again.

53:45 Moved the blue player's henchman when you should have moved the red player's henchman 54:13 Said "flag-bearer" when it was actually "lad in waiting" (played correctly, though)

Haha, I felt bad when I realized that for sure! Realistically if this had gone to plan they still would have had no chance to even take 2nd place unfortunately.

Good evening Jon. Do you have any plans to do a play through of the expansion?
@JonGetsGames
@JonGetsGames 5 лет назад
Unfortuantely I do not. In general I only cover expansions at the same time as the base game, and considering the large amount of time it takes to make these it just doesn't make sense to go back and do another playthrough with the expansion added in.

Yeah, I messed that up. There is already a note about this in the Klingon subtitles, I'd suggest turning those on for each of my videos so that you can watch the most accurate version of the tutorial.

I've only played this one 2 player. Any thoughts on different player counts?
@JonGetsGames
@JonGetsGames 5 лет назад
I have only played this correctly at 3p (played super wrong with 4p once), so I don't have much experience. I know that the manor territories are more numerous in a 4p game and I do think the influence contests are more interesting with that count. I imagine I'd be less interested in playing this at 2p simply due to the majority scoring of manors and influence being such a key part of the game and I enjoy more competition. This means if you've only played it at 2 then you may find the higher player counts more interactive and potentially more interesting.
