I used to work at Eckerd now rite aid in dreshertown shopping center. I was stocking a shelf and I heard the iconic voice. John the pharmacist knew him for years. I believe his wife had lupus. All I remember is the giant bag of meds he got. There he stood 5 ft 6 in loafers. He said to John the pharmacist, what do u think about the eagles this year in his iconic voice. I was windblown. That was in 1999. Year we drafted McNabb and hired Reid. Great guy.

One of my favorite things to watch are all these long-time, local radio announcers call championship wins for their team. Especially for teams that haven’t won one before or for a long time, I don’t even care what team it is, you can feel the energy and emotion of the entire fanbase come thru in their voices

And this play...well, i feel honored that we were involved in this, unfortunately not in the right side, but still, if we have to be punished with a touchdown, let it be one of the best ever. I'm old enough to remember the first iconic call of Merrill Reese as the Eagles' play-by-play announcer, the "Miracle at the Meadowlands" in November 1978..."Touchdown Eagles! I don't believe it! I don't believe it!" At this time, after forty years of ups and downs with tons of great teams and players, Reese really deserved that championship too. Good for the broadcasting legend!
@andrewpadaetz5549
@andrewpadaetz5549 9 месяцев назад
That's the crazy part about Reese's career-he called that play in 1978 ("and Pisarcik-fumbles the football-it's picked up by Herman Edwards!") and he is STILL doing Eagles games 45 years later in 2023. Not Vin Scully territory yet (67 seasons with the Dodgers) but he's getting there.

6 years & forty days later,after Superbowl LII (52),tears streaming down my cheeks f/watching this clip. That Sunday Morning around 11am I stepped off the bus in the city across from the old FOP building,I took half a dozen steps and looked up. Something dark & big was coming into my view, to my utter surprise was an American Bald Eagle ! I spun half way round to follow his flight with my body and eyes with the joy of a child on Christmas morning. Stunned with my heart racing questioning my own sanity or sobriety ! did I see what I just saw? was that real on the city streets? Who gets a gift like that on a street, in the city, on Superbowl sunday?? A lifelong Eagles fan,a regular guy who loves his team. Who my have just seen an omen? This has gotta mean something,rite? Yeah rite? all of this racing thru my head in just seconds in time! I continue watching the Eagle for no more than 60 yards and my view of him is blocked by a train bridge & I see him no more.This is it Jax the Eagles can't lose after this !~!!!! EAGLES are gonna win the Superbowl & only I know it !!! but,who is gonna believe what just happened to me? Oh NO !! So Cool ! who could they ever believe an American Eagle in the city. I suddenly notice my feet touching the ground & the thumping in my chest slows down a little,not quite as hard.. I feel a big grin on my face & my happiness abounds... everything is fine and my Eagles are going to win the greatest game I ever saw !! 41-33. all this is true Jax... E.A.G.L.E.S. EAGLES ! I can be the FIRST one to tell EVERYONE that the day we got Nick Foles back, I KNEW we had everything we needed to succeed. I knew he would be a good veteran leader for Wentz to learn from, and I knew his potential was there, and I was over the moon seeing Foles take over for the injured Wentz and helped finish the job. Everyone wants to overlook what happened before the Super Bowl, but I'm not one of those fans. Wentz got us the division crown and Foles helped lead the way after an unfortunate injury took Wentz out. They were the 1-2 punch at quarterback that delivered us the Super Bowl win we LONGED for.

Leaving bias aside this was still the most magical season with the best Super Bowl in history by any team. A dominant performance nearly every game after Jake Elliott surged the whole team with his game winning record breaking kick. Carson goes down and Foles looks like garbage and like the season is over. Then the first game in the playoffs Nick plays a subpar game but enough to beat Atlanta. Then Nick just plays lights out and manhandles the Vikings. Finally on the biggest stage of them all Dougie P calls a game with balls of steel with BDN playing a near perfect game against the biggest dynasty the NFL has ever seen for the first Eagles championship in the Super Bowl era. This team is built for another few runs for the foreseeable future but nothing will ever be as special as the 2017 season.

01:20 I knew that Foles was clutch. I watched him throw 7 TDs in one game a couple of years before this. I believed that when the chips were down he'd be the man. I also knew that it would be a one off fluke performance and that we had a real QB problem going into the next season. I equated Carson's injury to an automobile accident when your Ferrari's frame gets bent; still pretty to look at but will never drive the same again.
