I know I may not see 2030 but is anybody still here in 2030 listening to this wonderful song you made it and you are a blessing may God continue to bless everyone of you
The way she delivers the rather long lyric starting at 2:29. The phrasing and breath control are so freaking perfect. It’s unreal to me how very perfect her voice was. What an absolute gift and how lucky we are to have these live video clips. I often get teary-eyed just listening.
Can't believe no comments!? I remember hearing this song in 1972 or 73 in the car with my father. He said that (paraphrase) " You will hear this song every year for the rest of your life". He knew that this would be a classic.
Karen Carpenter OWNED it!!! Nobody since her passing has come even remotely close to her voice. Unparalleled, incomparable to no other female vocalist then, now, or, I dare to say, in the future! Her death was a devastating loss to the music industry. Thank the Lord we have her recordings to hold closely to our hearts and souls. We miss you so very much, Karen. You were as beautiful as that angelic voice of yours.
Sealust50 the closest I have heard with modern day singers is "Harriet" from the U.K. Her inspiration MUST have been Karen. Look her up on RU-vid. She is Wonderful! (As is Karen).
Any particular name of a video you can throw at me? I can't find the Harriet you're referring to. There was a Harriett from the UK on a Voice video, but she can't be the one you are referring to given the sound of her voice. Please lead me in the right direction so I can hear her.
I couldn't agree more. At this time I love Merry Christmas Darling. Please check out the Carpenters story tribute act. They are amazing and Claire Furley sings an amazing version at the end of November. Regards David Edwards England
I’m a big fan of Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston Janet jackson Madonna Prince , Freddie Mercury boy George 80s music and synth pop. But when I hear and sing this song. She’s touching my soul wow. And I also teared up!!
Karen Carpenters voice absolutely flawless !! Without the help of autotune lip-synching or voiceover ! How many singers today can pick up a microphone and sing like that not many if any at all
She had such a beautiful voice. So perfect, resonant, silky and with great diction. Unique tone and 100% natural... a voice that today's singers could only dream about.
You can say that again. So many of today's singers are so cookie-cutter. A lot of them, even some of the "great" ones, you can't tell apart from each other. Karen's voice is both gorgeous AND unique.
God made only one Karen Carpenter. How fortunate are we to have lived to hear her. I pray she receives our deepest appreciation and love where she now resides.
Very true & I read, she was this "good" all the time. They hardly ever retouched her first Studio Takes, as she was perfect with her songs the first time thru!
Once in a life time singer, i thanked God for i was born in this generation to hear and listen to this wonderful lady, Ms. Karen Carpenter +++++ R I P ++++++++
My sentiments exactly! So blessed to have experienced the effect of her phenomenal sound. I pray she receives our deepest appreciation. She is loved by countless millions.
She is beautiful, but rail thin (her waist must be about 20!). It's hard to see her like this, knowing what's coming. How she sounds this amazing is a mystery.
Take a reality check, Mike. She was advanced into her Anorexia here. It's tragically sad, but did she look more like 28 or 50? ...50. She was actually just 28. All that dieting regime, dehydrating, constant reoccurring vomiting, etc did irreparable damage she couldn't see.
Everybody coming into the comments with their memories and happiness for the holiday season thanks to this beautiful Christmas classic. Merry Christmas everybody!
This is LIVE!! Actual singing without a net. She NAILS this effortlessly! Stunning. No dramatics. No "watch me show off" vocal screaming and embellishments. Just soul melting brilliance.
This clip is from the Christmas Special of the Bruce Forsyth Show in 1978 (UK). That's why she sings 'Happy Christmas Brucie' at the end of the song. Richard isn't there, as he is rehab for sleeping pill addiction. There is a longer version of this video on RU-vid, where she says Richard has the flu and that's why he isn't there.
I was watching a Christmas Music television special . Some girl actually sang Mi..ens(mittens w/o the T's) during her "rendition" of These are a few of my favorite things! I had to come and see someone who could actually sing.
No autotune on this lady's voice. Wonderful to hear her sing this song all the way though, without the studio overdubbing. She could have had a tremendous solo career. In hindsight, I wish they'd stayed in the studio, knocking out a few more albums rather than wasting all of that time doing concerts. Without the pressure of those live appearances, I'll bet Karen would still be with us today.
@@shirleys765 I understand what Karen really loved was being in the recording studio making records. That's partly why she made the solo album as Rich was in rehab at the time. It's well known she hated being up front on stage (preferring to hide behind her drum kit). So I conclude the more concerts she did, the more anxious she became. I think they would have been around a long time without all of those silly concerts. The records earn money over the long haul. Ticket sales are short lived.
this song is superb, my all time favorite christmas song and singer! so much nostalgia and beauty when you hear any carpenters song! wish she could be here with us
What a song! I remember learning to sing this song as a kid and i still return to this song to warm my voice up as i just love it so much. It’s one of very very very few Christmas songs that doesn’t feel like a cash grab. It’s just a human being expressing their inner child.
i was not born on her generation..i just knew her because she's my mom's fave singer that up to now im enjoying her music..the legendary Karen Carpenter..RIP
Karen, thank you for all the joys of Christmas you've brought to us of this generation. I was 5 when I first got to hear your album. I listen to it every Christmas and thank you every year for the spirit and love poured into it. Your voice was a gift God gave you, you make Christmas special and it will continue to make future Christmas holidays special. Thank you Karen, you truly are a Christmas Angel, forever one ❤️ Merry Christmas everyone ☃️
This is one of my all time Christmas songs but to see Karen so obviously thin and not well performing it really breaks my heart.. May this legend rest in peace...
Brucieee Hahaha! just Karen could make things like that. Move us and touch us with this precious song, and the end to make us laugh. Pure natural talent.
Karen looks really pretty. And that’s definitely saying a lot for someone who’s partially blind like me. Too bad she passed away. I most definitely wanted to meet her after hearing this song but then when I heard she passed away I was really sad. Although the whole Karen craze that’s going on these days would have broken her heart so maybe it’s a good thing she wasn’t alive for that.
What a nice thing to say sweetheart. I have to believe that she easily receives all of our love and adoration easily now where she resides beyond the veil. .
What a nice thing to say sweetheart. I have to believe that she easily receives all of our love and adoration now that she is free from the bondages of the flesh. We love you Karen!!
