DH: Two or three octaves... Geoff Castellucci: And the other two... The man has a 5 octave range, including subharmonics. Suggest you do check out his channel. You're a bassist, you know all about holding the floor of the mix together with the percussion and allowing the rest of the ensemble to properly lock in. On his own channel, though, separate from Voiceplay, he sings all the parts, not always a capella but usually with minimal instrumentation, layering his parts and making full use of his incredible range.

Host the Colours by Voiceplay please. I 100% guarantee you will love it.

You should listen to Geoff's version of 16 Tons where he harmonizes with himself. (Santa is not a VP member but Geoff's BIL. It's said he also has an excellent voice.) For VP try Hoist the Colours and Wicked Medley (Geoff did the arrangements on both of those songs. He and Layne, the beatboxer and childhood friend share the arranging duties.) They also did a great rendition of Carryon my Wayward Son.

Great reaction! I don’t know if you plan on checking out any of their other videos, but might I suggest Hoist the Colours for you! It is pretty much their most epic cover so far. Just about every reactor who has reacted to it has been broken is some way, lol.

Or if David played Halo, they did an AWESOME cover of the theme! in that case there is some nostalgia added to relisten.

Merry Christmas. Geoff Castelucci is the bass singer and has done covers of other songs on his own RU-vid channel. Songs include 16 Tons, House of the Rising Son and Monster Mash.

About Freaking Time. #TheatreKidsOfACappella. Love this group and Geoff Castellucci the bass also has his own channel that he does low bass covers. His range is amazing. His cover for Christmas is God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen. More, More, More!

I love VoicePlay, they are the only a capella band I enjoy listening to. So I'm really glad you liked this 😉 They've been around since the late 1990's and did a lot of different songs, a few members also changed in those years. They do almost everything by themselves, the arrangements, recordings, sets, lightning, production and all of that. This song showcased their bass, Geoff Castellucci, he has a very dynamic, 5 octave range. In most of the songs all members have equal vocal parts and their harmonies are always amazing. They were also touring quite a lot before the virus hit and their live shows were great. Are there any other VoicePlay songs on your list? It would be great if you could listen to their more epic arrangements 🙂

Yeahhh they also the one a capella band i prefer too cause i am not so much into country, and poppy voctave does not interest me as much as the pieces voiceplay usualy chooses cause i love musical theater and they excell in that

I'm a rock and metal guy and like instrumental composition too but I respect high level talent and this was an epic performance. Piling on the suggestion you give Hoist the Colors a listen too even if you don't dive any deeper than that

Voiceplay does an a capella version of the Halo theme, and it never stops being amazing that human voices can do those sounds. I second the recommendations of Hoist the Colours and My Mother Told Me. They are the more theatrical of the groups out there - for less theatrics try 'Wayward Son'.

Geoff, the lead singer, always wanted to be a rock tenor!!! No wonder he adds higher notes in it whenever he can. Geoff accepted being a bass eventually ofc. and made his mark with it, but still loves his baritone mid-register the most.

Loved your reaction! Geoff's (pronounced Jeff's) last note is one of the most impressive low Bass notes that had ever been produced up to this time. Many vocal coaches have said that that note was the lowest note they have ever heard a human being produce. That having been said, the stuff Geoff does on his solo channel (I recommend 'Blackbird' for an astonishing reaction video), as well as what Voiceplay does today is redefining what acapella can do. I recommend 'Carry on my wayward son', or really anything Voiceplay has done lately... acapella has come a long way, and has become significantly better just within the last year. Thanks for your open minded review, Voiceplay are the 'theatre kids' of the big 3 acapella groups, and though they are beloved by their fans, they can be a little off putting when you don't know what to expect. Great reaction!

Thx for the reaction :-) ...I think the song got great music-craftmanship and a lot of love for details. Even if someone is not too much in acapella, (I guess) it adds overall some bonus colors in the universe of music ;-)

That was a fair review. I appreciate that you appreciate all the talent that went into it, even if the genre itself was not to your taste.

You really should listen to Hoist the Colours and their new Wicked Medley. Geoff Castalucci, the bass, arranged both and his arrangements are complex. They do a wide variety of styles. You might check out their cover of the HALO theme song. All voice, but no lyrics. Geoff hits a B0 using subharmonic . I believe his last note here was an E1, which he hits pretty regularly. Their original beatboxer came back for this. He and Layne ( current beatboxer) have a mini duel. As a matter of fact, they do record on their own, in their homes after Covid hit. Their live performances sound great as well, though not as layered. Layne, the beatboxer, does the initial sound edit and then it is sent to Ed Boyle, who also mixes for Homes Free and Pentatonix. Whoever does the arrangement ( split pretty evenly between the bass and the beatboxer) does the video edit. They pretty much do it all in their own. Geoff has a 5 octave range, and in their Little Mermaid Medley ( they live in Orlando and have all done time at Disney) he plays Ursula, the sea witch, and has a four octave slide ( as I recall D1 to D4).

First time on your channel and the second I heard the Blazing Saddle heromph I hit subscribe!!! Fantastic!!! VoicePlay is incredible with everything they do. They just released The Greatest Showman Medley today and all I can say is... Wow!. I hope you do more from them. Carry On My Wayward Son, Queen in 5 Minutes, and the Halo Theme song are my favorites.

You: "I'm kind of over my shock at the lead singer." Geoff: "Hold my beer." That look on first-time listeners' faces when he drops the bass down to the core of the earth never gets old. I hope you'll give some other VoicePlay videos a chance, as well as Geoff's solo work (as mentioned by many others in the comments below; he does use instruments in his "solo" work, though "solo" should be defined loosely since he does ALL the voices by cloning himself. As you do). Every one of these people is a vocal powerhouse and while Geoff's 5 octave range is sort of the gateway drug, you end up being blown away by every single member over time.

I love their theatrics--they go all in every time. Even if they don't do a "play" song you'll get perfection. Just pick any of their songs that appeal to you and you'll be hooked. Try Friends On the Other Side if you want to hear Geoff go sub woofer and Layne off the chain. You'll forget they are a cappella. Geoff usually does an E1 in most songs (his last note here), but he goes as low as B0. Listen to his solo of Blackbird to get the full effect of his range. Also, listen to them live and you won't hear much difference.

Don't like a cappella, but appreciate musicality? Guitar, bass and drums? How about Dirty Loops & Cory Wong, Follow the Light. Or just Dirty Loops, maybe Work Shit Out. Bitten by the Kitten if you want straight instrumental. Spectacular. Watch for Henrik's bass solo in Follow the Light. A lot of folks are saying he's the #1 bass player out there right now... I can't judge, but he's amazing.

Any top class singer that does lipsync needs to really do it was the mic on or not - they are not just opening their mouth (like some succers do) they live and act the song like they are performing it live, they want to have the feeling and vibes 🎤
