Just before the Beatles Show begins at the Shea Stadium in august 1965, a group of fans is interviewed and we can see on the left the young Meryl Streep aged 16.
Hahhaahh, she actually was great, though. She had this quiet knowing that the guy was just trying to cause trouble with them, get them to say something "controversial" or whatever.
I love how she jumps in the interview when he asked if the Beatles were on there way out and she says " no" . Her instincts seem to have guided her right through out her life.
I saw the Grammy Awards when she presented an award to Paul. Maybe we cand find it on youtube. She informed us she had been to Shea Stadium to see the Beatles. She was carrying a banner or maybe using a bottom written ' I love you Paul". That's why she was so thrilled to give that award to him. Paul said something nice as " I remember you there. You were the prettiest...." something like that. Sure he could not remember. Only being Mr Nice guy. Wow. Beautiful story.,
Ok, the thing that makes me think this is Meryl Streep, is if you look over the left shoulder of the boy being interviewed in the second clip you see only the bottom portion of her face. There's no way that mouth and chin belong to anyone but her. And I watched the Grammy awards the night she presented McCartney his award and she was very flustered. I still have it on tape. She was definitely a fan.
Yep, I know it's from the '66 concert. The Beatles were coming off the "more popular than Jesus" remark and this reporter was trying to get kids to say they were tired of the Beatles. He finally found a dopey little kid who said they liked Herman's Hermits better. It was in the Anthology series. It would've been foolish to have said the Beatles were on their way out at the '65 show which was about to be the biggest in history up to that point. I'd like to see other footage of Meryl at that time. How much exists and where did you see it?
I don't think she's Meryl because in that year she was like 16, so she was in high school and she was blonde, also, if you look in the second clip when you can she the girl's full face it isn't Meryl
@@anjanaiglesias6180 Wow, Meryl Streep herself has already confirmed this footage is in fact, her, I mean by this point that's common knowledge and my God! Just use your eyes! If you don't think that's Meryl, even without her own confirmation then you are blind.
Meryl Streep has said she went to 1965 Shea Stadium concert. You can Google it and hear her saying it. But the problem is the description on this video is wrong. This apparently isn't the 65 concert like it says. This is the 66 concert as everyone seems to know when that reporter did this. Lol.
I have just found the night she Honoured him in Grammy Awards, 1990. She tells the whole story. Very touching. Beautiful moment for us who love The Bealtes and admires this great actress. She really went to that concert in 66.
This was just after John’s Jesus remarks and you can see how this reporter was trying to put poison down by trying to drag them down. Fortunately none of the fans were falling for it. Good for them.
Meryl said on the Jimmy Kimmel show that she went to a Beatles concert in 1965. In The Beatles Anthology they present these interviews as being from 1966.
Meanwhile, Sigourney Weaver was at their performance in the Hollywood Bowl that same year. Hell, a young Teri Garr was a backup dancer on The T.A.M.I. Show! She can be seen wearing a bullseye shirt while The Supremes were on stage.
That smile at :16.. come on. .Nobody else smiles the way Meryl Streep does, how could there be any question? it's less apparent when she's in front during the girl's interview, but when she's in the background, she looks as Meryl as ever, no question.
So, Meryl Streep interviewed at the Beatles concert at Shea Stadium in 1965. Her first time on film. You have a valuable bit of film there, gapont2. I'd copyright it, or whatever you do to claim ownership. And, insure it and keep the original in a safe. Seriously. Meryl Streep is gonna go down in history as the most important actress of her time. The Beatles as the most important band. You've got a piece of history, there.
That is definitley her!! At 17 secs, u can see half her face, but thats the shot that sold me. Same smile. And another thing- reporter should have interviewed Meryl. If only he knew who she would be...lol i bet he'd love to interview her now.
that is meryl.if you look at old pictures of her,as someone above did provide, there was one where meryl is a teen or a pre-teen.that picture was her freshman yearbook photo, you can find it on the meryl streep forum,it wasnt until her sophmore year that she dyed her hair blonde.her natural colors are both brown and red,she was both.that is her, however, because she states in the video where she pays tribute to paul mccartney, that in 1965 she begged to be allowed to go into NYC to see them at shea.
When Meryl presented the Grammy award to Paul McCartney in 1990, she said she went to see the Beatles in New York, in August, 1965. She said she could hardly see the stage, that she remembers them running across the grass to the stage. So, she's definitely talking about their Shea Stadium concert - watch?v=EE64bGzV2M0 It's her in this clip. There's no question. Look at her nose/mouth area at around :16 .....it's identical to the way she looks today. The debate is closed, it's her.
This wasn't the 1965 Shea Stadium appearance .This is their second one. Also...If you look at pictures of Meryl Streep as a child, she doesn't look anything like that. Her hair was very blonde and she was thinner than that girl. Also? This is a very famous interview, so if it really were Meryl, she would have spoken up about it by now.
I think she bleached her hair when she was in 8th,9th,or 10th grade. Because she wanted to be like other beautiful girls in her school. (Not so sure. I forgot about that story on a book about her)
Yeah, gapont2, I was just away Googling to see if she did mention the concert. She did indeed. You're right. The Beatles Shea Stadium concert was in August, 1965. When Meryl presented Paul McCartney with the Grammy Lifetime Achievement award in 1990, she mentioned she was there. Here is the RU-vid clip of her stating that: watch?v=EE64bGzV2M0 So, that's her in your clip. No way in Hell it's another 16 year old girl that just happens to look and sound like Meryl Streep. It's definitely her.
I'm pretty sure this would be 1966. The interviewer is talking about the Beatle craze being on the way out. There was something like a third of the seats empty as opposed to the year before, where it was a full house. I've seen other interviews like this with fans at the ' 66 Shea gig where the interviewer is venturing the same thing.
omg! ofc it's meryl! you can see that on her smile and her eyes and ofc her nose! she is so cute and so beautiful! why didn't the man interviewed her, he should have done that!:-)
this is 1966, after Lennon's 'We're Bigger Than Jesus' thing. The reporter is asking leading questions, trying to get people to give up the Beatles. The so-called 'Libral Media!' lol.
It's Meryl Streep, all right, about 6 years before she entered Yale Drama School and then became perhaps the best actress of her generation. Of course, all that was in the future during that brief moment when a star-struck Meryl stood silent and let her girlfriend grab the spotlight. Who knew?
i have a question about meryl, so I thought I try it here on youtube: in the wikipedia article about her, I read that she nursed john cazale until march 78 and married don gummer in september 78. did she ever say something about that short time? did she meet don after john's death or wasn't she anyloger enganged to john when he died and just friends while nursing him?
There is a video here which has a bunch of home movies and videos of Meryl growing up. This is in there. Check it out. Also quite conceivable that that guy is her brother Harry. He resembles him.
One more comment, the girl being interviewed has a NY, Brooklyn accent. MS grew up in Central New Jersey I believe. So she is with a friend who lives in Brooklyn, not a friend from NJ? Looks like her though...
It's true she died her hair blonde in her late teens, & attended the Shea Stadium concert. But was she a bit chubby in her early teens? If so, this could be her..... or a relative!
This is actually from the 1966 Shea Stadium concert (which didn't sell out like the year before, possibly because of the "bigger than Jesus" comment, and also that they were playing concerts in D.C. and Boston the same tour).
Jeffrey Pierce, She didn't have blond hair as a child, and she doesn't have blond hair now. She has dyed her hair for ages. So this brunette is easily Meryl.
That is NOT Meryl Streep. There are many of her high school photos online proving it’s not her. Meryl was very blond throughout high school, with the same thin face she had in the years following.
No way that's Meryl Streep. The girl mildly resembles her. Meryl was at Shea in '65. The interview said this interview happened in '66, when The Beatles returned.
I think it's her. You can tell more at about :17 onward. The question is, has she ever mentioned she went to see The Beatles at Shea Stadium?? It seems to me it would be something she would have mentioned, at least once, in the countless interviews she's given.
