Here I run a MESA amp to power up a pair of passive bookshelf speakers. I used regular speaker thick speaker wire coming out of the amps 2 channel outputs via mono jack. My volume on the amp is about 2 and change for really loud output. There is a 15watt mode switch on the amp but I don't use it as it thins out the sound.
I did this because I wanted to purchase a pair of ns10's but I didn't have an amp at the time to power it. Then it hit, I have a power amp from MESA maybe it could do the trick. It did it well! I believe that if run through a solid state transistor amp, the speakers will sound the way people have always described them "brittle and harsh" but through the tube amp they sound mellow and full. I think its the amplifier stage that counts when listening to yamaha ns10 speakers. The speakers just display the information thats given to it by the amp.
