Great post, really gives a perspective of the size.

Cool watching her come through the bridges and the far one closing behind her.

We are blessed to live in today's world of affordable high resolution cameras, drones and free internet content. I mean where on the TV world you would expect such a marvelous, fantastic view of theses giant lake ships in cold winter ? This was epic to the highest level.

Major, major respect to the pilot and captain! I was a Surface Warfare Officer in the U.S. Navy for 12 years, and was navigator aboard a ship that was 438 feet long and 48 feet wide. Watching him make that turn and get lined up for those bridges is mind-blowing given his size. Wow!

I was a Quartermaster aboard the USS Lexington, in 1971. We had to go into Mobile Bay, in Mobile, AL, to get aa refitting of piping throughout the ship. After getting hung up on a couple of sand bars and having to backup, to refloat, we made it into the docks. Once there, they wanted us to back iin. In trying to make the turn, the tugs pushed us into one of the old docks and we destroyed it. They were going to build a new one anyway. Destruction, compliments of the US NAVY.

Stunning drone footage. Y'all nailed it. This really shows the perspective of how large these ships are and what tight spaces they have to maneuver through. Add in the ice and you have serious drama. Nice production. Appreciate the radio calls. Only quim is that the music was a tad loud. Really good job. Thank you.

I just noticed the length of the Miner and it's snailpace speed through the bridges is like waiting at a RR crossing for a slow moving mile long freight train.

I was the first vehicle on the first bridge waiting, not knowing it was coming through until I reached the bridge and it started lifting. What a surprise :)

No room for error on a ship that large/long

I would think there is potential for significant wind load on the sides of those ships. That is, I bet they are hard to control in tight spots like this on a windy day.

Man I don't understand how that ship doesn't bump the sides of those tight quarters when there's wind. 1000' feet of steel sides are basically a gigantic wall to catch the wind

I have an extremely dumb question, but please don't be too rough on me for asking it..... what do the bridge operators do all winter when the lake is basically iced over? Are there icebreakers going through? Just asking.

I'd hate to be on my way home, having to poop, when that thing comes along, and the bridge opens. Yikes.
