The thing that blows my mind the most about his playing is the fact he's playing ghost notes on the snare the entire time! Yeah, play 3 completely different patterns between the bass drums, snare, and symbols pshhh too easy! Let's add volume dynamics going from quiet to loud to accented notes on the rim of the snare just for shits and grins while doing goddamned fills on the toms. No big deal! All the while being as calm as a Buddhist monk.

I've been listening to Devin Townsend's new podcast. He holds Meshuggah in huge high regard. He calls them an industry game changer. He also cites them as the band that helped him find his own sound. In fact, he has a song called "Planet of the Apes" where he sings, "While we all have lots of bands who influence still/ we all rip off Meshuggah." If they're new to you, then I recommend some of their earlier stuff too like "New Millennium Cyanide Christ" and "The Demon's Name is Surveillance." They released New Millennium in 1998. It's still mind blowing today, but back in 98 it was even more so.

Guys, that was great .. Meshuggah is my all time favorite band. It's literally all i listen to anymore. Haha. They employ different time signatures, which they define as 'groups of notes' over a 4/4 pulse. Uncompromising. It's literally a formula they follow and it's addicting as FUCK! Again, thanks. This is their easy to digest hit, and among a few others. Check Stengah for a mind trip as a musician.

Meshuggah showed up randomly in my life, by means of spotify's early algorithms. It was "combustion" that i hastily added to my current playlist. I didnt initially consider meshugga more than anything but a band who made a lot of noise. For whatever reason I gradually kept gaving combustion a chance, which eventually led to to their entire catalogue and I couldn't be more grateful for any other band. I eventually incorporated over 30 songs of theirs in my all time playlist. I would also venture off and listen to every single album from front to back. FYI - they have a song called Ayahuasca. Which is the greatest testament of proof that the band has definitely tripped on it.

Tomas is such a humble guy, it's hard to believe he is such a beast until you hear him play With his Innate understanding of Polyrhythms. He creates the Backbone that makes Meshuggah so Awesome...... in my opinion. ;0) A polyrhythm fits unequal numbers of beats spaced out equally within the same amount of time--or within the same measure. So for example a three over two polyrhythm will fit three beats of one instrument and two beats of another into the same amount of time. Love the reaction Guy's!
@jajjjamensan

Its often Tomas zone out thinking of fishing while he playing, his body is on autopilot. Also he has no shoes because he want the correct feel on the pedal and also makes it easier for him controlling his right foot since he got a back problem making the right foot to sometimes not work proper.

He’s focused AF. Bleed by Meshuggah is the definition of heavy metal for years now. Just so you know when he wrote his drumpart and that song, he tried to write 2 songs in one. So feets are doing one and his hands are playing something completely different.
