One night I was driving a truck from Scotland down to Teeside England. Close to the border, you come to a roundabout where you can go straight on into Berwick or turn right, up the hill, headed towards Newcastle. As I started up the hill a Barn Owl came out of the trees and flew directly in front of the windshield for what seemed like 10-15 seconds. He was only a few feet in front of the truck and I had the most wonderful view of him. It's a moment and memory I'll never forget.

Owls have barbs on their first primary feathers which break up the wind to muffle the sound. Not just being graceful but their feather design is mainly why they have silent flight. Slightly mentioned in the video, low wing loading (small, light body with big wings) also helps generate lift in flight.

For almost 65 years I've adored parrots, cockatoos, keets and all types of exotic, colorful, wonderfully-adorned beauties. Baretta birds? Hell yeah!!! (Anyone younger than 40 probably won't know what I'm talking about lol) However, the birds that have always had my full attention are the regal, majestic, predatory hunters in the skies. Hawks, falcons, eagles, kites and...most importantly...owls of ALL types. Not sure what the attraction is but owls just seem so damn loveable and Panda Bear/Teddy Bear-ish, yanno? I love their faces, their eyes, the way they turn and, ultimately, their silence in flight while hunting.

Owls are so amazing. There is an owl that visits a small park near where I live in summer time. I can't wait for it's return. I found a kind of hawk moth last summer and I'm really interested in insects, too. So I picked up the moth to take a closer look and then it flew off from my hand! Unbelievably, a second later the owl flew silently past me and caught the poor hawk moth. That was mesmerizing to see, I did feel a bit bad for the moth but at the same time to see a moth fly right past me and caught the moth was fantastic! I also saw it catch a sparrow the week before that. Such awesome birds!

Amazing video! I just learned more about owls in 14 min. than I ever knew. As a hunter/fisherman/outdoorsman I've been listening to owls my whole life since I was a young boy and I never knew that they could fly silently in Stealth Mode. Years ago while turkey hunting I was slowly making my way up a steep hill early in the morning with barely enough daylight to see the ground when I saw movement coming straight at me, I put my hand up out of reflex and a small owl hit me directly in my right hand and left scratches down my cheek. When I told my Dad what happened he said that it probably saw the top of my cap moving as I walked and thought it was a squirrel or a mouse and judging by the small size of the owl it was probably a screech owl. Scary incident absolutely, if it wasn't for my fast reflexes I could have lost my right eye, yet only received a few scratches and the owl was unscathed as it flew away.

Also consider that the silent flight of the owl may have a dual purpose. Avoids startling their prey, and allows them to listen closely right up until the moment of impact.

@@ROKEY88 how can you look at this beautiful bird and say it was created by evolution, something that doesn’t have a consciousness 🤦🏾‍♂️ everything on earth is uniquely designed

I love the air of mystery surrounding owls. Although many falconry experts claim they are not intelligent, there are many sources that debate this in terms of long term study of these birds.

i don'nt think that experts meant "not intelligent",they are smart, but less than crows or ravens, those psychos are INCREDIBLE in problem solving, and figuring solutions etc.

I can see Owls being tempered, cocky, stubborn 🤣 Kind of like cats.

6:48 that owl is such a diva, he’s like, “Oh! You looking at me? Don’t answer that, because I know you are.”

Really awesome !!! What if I could work on something like that? Research so beautifully is not possible without the BBC. But unfortunately I was born in a developing country for which this is not possible.

Superbe. I cracked up at the little owl's face at the end, after his fierce mom lands back on the nest. She's all majestic and that fluffy brown-grey potato is peacefully chewing like it's no big deal "yup that's mom for ya"

The editing during the hearing segment where it's like an analysis program makes owls seem like finely tuned hunters (which, let's be real, they are)

If the zombie apocalypse happens you definitely want to be an Owl. Not only they are the most effective hunters by either day time or night time. These guys are taking on Wolves (with an S. Plural) (!!!) Effortlessly badass flying ninjas.

Also the fact that a zombie is unlikely to think of an owl as food.

Before a zombie apocalypse happens, owls will have acquired the ability of speech and grown reposable thumbs.
