would like to also highlight, that Imran saying he’s going to seek knowledge now does not mean he has not been seeking knowledge, rather he has since for the past 6-7 years. I know the brother personally and is definitely knowledgeable when it comes to fiqh aqeedah, manhaj, Arabic grammar and other subjects. He is going g to dedicated his full time to seeking knowledge and I ask Allah to elevate him and make him a great benefit for the people

Allāh has Said in the Qur'ān: *فاعلم انه لا اله الا الله واستغفر لذنبك.* *Then know! That He, there is no deity except Allāh and ask forgiveness for your sin.* This means that a person must act upon the declaration by his heart, tongue and body. However preceding this is knowledge. As well as the first five Revealed verses (of Sūrah Al-'Alaq) which is to remember the favour of Allāh upon us and as well as to learn and to teach.

FIrst and foremost, your intention for seeking knowledge must be for understanding Islam and applying it in your own life. Other things come after it.

السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته I accepted Islam in my mid 20s. Now I live in Egypt and I can definitely relate to what the brothers mention about struggles coming to you left and right once you embark on the path of knowledge. But i remind myself every morning I head to class and I drop my kids off at their marakiz that knowledge is a path to jannah and the annoyances of being in a foreign land amongst a foreign & sometimes unislamic culture pales in comparison to the value of myself and my children being able to have a strong understanding of the arabic language and the quran, which is the absolute necessary foundation needed to seek higher islamic knowledge. They are also right about those who studied in their youth having an enormous head start. There are mostly born-muslims in my school from east african and arab backgrounds who are able to grasp the information much easier than the rest of us who started learning late. But this is also a motivator because we hope Allah rewards us more since it is not as easy for us and most importantly we dont give up. We get sick, we have financial struggles, shaytan and our desires tell us to go back to the West and sometimes even we get tired, lonely or homesick but then we remember our niyyah and the promised benefits/rewards of seeking knowledge and we do it again the next day. May Allah Al Ghaniy fully facilitate and provide the needs of your school and protect it and its students/staff and supporters from all forms of harm. إن شاء الله‎ in a few years maybe I will be qualified to teach there since its not far from my hometown Savannah . Excellent reminders. May Allah Al Haseeb reward you all and keep your intentions for His sake only. بارك الله فيكم

Also I would recommend having part time adult classes for parents and those who are a bit "too old" to start over but may have some spare time to learn the deen. This reminds me of the hadith of Abdullah bn Abass (may Allah be pleased with both father and son) in an Hadith he reported himself related in Sunan Dārimi about how he approached a young Madinah chap like him while.they were young to seek knowledge from the companions as at the time when they were alive and the young chap underestimated him by saying 'who would sit in front of you to take knowledge?" Abdullah said he however ignored the guy and continue to seek knowledge and he would go out to search for narrations and would sleep at the door step of the one from whom he intended to take Hadith from with the hot wind and dust of the street blowing on him because he knew the one from whom he wants to take knowledge from might be having his siesta. And when they come out and find him at the door step, they would exclaim that he should have sent for them but he would reply that he is the one searching for knowledge and he should be the one to come to them. In the end, he said that the young chap was alive after the death of the companions seeing people gather infront of him and he said "verily, this boy (i.e Abdullah bn Abass) is more sensible than me". Allahu Akbar. Knowledge is about sacrifice and it comes with hardship. Jazakumullahu bro saajid for sharing.

'Alī b. Abī Ṭālib رضي الله عنه said: "Wash your clothes, take care of your hair, use siwak, adorn yourselves and remain clean. For the Children of Israel would not do this, hence their women committed adultery." ‎● [كتاب: كنز العمال في سنن الأقوال والأفعال ١٧١٧٥]

May Allah reward you

As a matter of fact we are so happy that Americans who embraced Islam are serving it as it should be because they master the language and deeply know their society culture. However, there is one fundamental thing I would like to point out , mainstream scholars say that seeking knowledge is a religion (dine). So, be careful in terms of from whom you take your religion. Authentic sunnah is obvious and other paths (manahij) are obvious as well. What pushes me to warn you is your colleague Daniel Haqiqatjo, he posted an interesting video highlighting the difference between democracy and the form of governance in Islam, but in the end of it he tackled the relationship between the governor and mainstream scholars saying that they should not be scholars of Soultan ( president, king or whatever sort of governance). This point of view is in line with the global organisation of brother Muslims perspective which advocates Khoroudje and revolutions( Arab spring) this path is absolutely wrong and problems that stemmed from it are clear cut. So, when learning in Saudi Arabia you have to be careful so that none exploit you for his political agenda. All the best.

May Allah make it easy for me I want to understand the Quran as a whole. May Allah make it easy for all of us to become people of knowledge and who are rightly guided. This life is not easy for the believer but the reward is just unimaginable.

Thats true! Every where and every person once you want please Allah by study quran and islam more you will face hardships and beside that and upon all is mercy and blessings to you and every thing you have, health, good freinds, age,...

My advice for someone studying Islam is to first know what you want your function to be in society. For instance, we in the west do NOT need anyone going through kuliyat Dawah in University anymore, that degree is meaningless to us now. Our main pain point in the west is that we don't have faqeehs, we don't have anyone strongly grounded in Islamic law in accordance with Quran and Sunnah. We need individuals who study to be jurists. Those who studied science of hadeeth did a great job, but almost none of them can even apply hadith without causing some division within the community. Knowing how to apply and when to apply is something the faqeeh knows based on maxims. So do not bother in kuliyat adawah and if you do science of hadeeth do it in the beginning but move on to Islamic law and jurisprudence.

i certanly had some sort of romantic idea, and ofc i heard Mufti Menk speaking how tests will arrive, and puff ... when i got my first visa rejection, i didn't know what to do, and time passed and now its about 6-8yrs
