R9 and Messi , finally a fair comparison, My two all time favourites. They are in a class of their own. I prefer R9 however, his only weakness was the fact he was prone to injury. He was the perfect player (before he got a bit tubby lol even then he was still world class). At 20-22 R9 was already the best player in the world, not even messi can claim that. Its seriously scary to think how good R9 would've been if he made it to 27/28 healthy.

given yes I made a mistake , Messi won his first ballon d'or at 22 and R9 at 21 so yes Messi can sort of claim that. What I mean is Ronaldo was putting up World class numbers at Psv when he was in his teens. Messi took slightly longer to reach world class numbers is what I sort of mean. One question tho, How am I a fanatic if clearly stated that Messi (alongside R9 ) Is my favourite player of all time?

It's easier to get first team in PSV and R9's Barca that was a contender for UEFA places, than in Messi's Barca. Actually Messi was very close to leaving Barca because he was not getting enough first team action. We are talking about a Barca that had Etoo, Xavi, Iniesta, Ronaldinho, Deco, Henry etc. Messi as a long time played as a substitute and was a winger before they understood how good he is. I also loved R9 and watched him from first to last game. Messi on the other hand, cannot be compared with anything. It's unexplainable how he became what he is and how he was very similar even since he was 8-9 years old. The quality of everything he does, the speed and the decisiveness is incredible. It's stunning to see how nobody can find an antidote for his game. His "secret" actually is that he is faster, smarter and more skilled than anyone on the field at any time. It was visible even from hist debut at 17 years when he chipped the keeper and the goal was wrongfully disallowed, then at the second occasion, he chipped the keeper again. No problem, why not... Although a modest person, he always knew he is the best and it's visible from the moment he had his first game. Henry and Puyol recount that at his first training with the team, his first action was dribbling everyone on the field and scoring.

Ronaldo Nazario was a phenomenon. Of all the strikers that I've seen play, he was the best for me. A player who was impressive on all fronts. Ronaldo is my hero. I loved to watch players like Zidane, Ronaldinho and Rivaldo, but Ronaldo is the best player I've ever seen. He was fast that the could score straight from kick-off. I've never seen someone touch the ball the way he did. - Lionel Messi said this in 2019.

R9 is the best, the greatest of all time, no question about it. My mom and grandmother didn't even watch football, and they stayed up to watch him play in the WCs. He had the hearts and souls of only football fans, but people around the world, and that is truly amazing. After his last WC, I just felt like football is never the same again, that joy and that excitement.

Back when players playing with passion. We were there to entertain the fans with beautiful magical football. But today players only play now for money. When they got there big salary is its over they aren't playing great anymore. The only player that entertain from football New Era is Messi. But Messi is now 35 and is leaving very soon.

That's laughable. Sure he has some good highlights but Messi did the magic literally every game at his peak. R9 didn't win Serie A (before his injuries) and he only won La Liga once (not with Barcelona) with team full of stars. Messi is a lot better than Ronaldo ever was. He really only shined at the World Cup, but again he was playing with an insane team that included Rivaldo, Ronaldinho, Cafu, Roberto Carlos

N.S.M. If you´re going to give much importance to the stats, even CR7 is better than Messi, so be careful for what you wich! In what concerns R9 and the teams he represented, his 2 best seasons were 1996-1997 and 1997-1998, where he played for Barcelona and Inter Milan, at that time two teams that were very far away from the Barcelona of Pep Guardiola or the actual team of Barcelona! In terms of national teams, i dont think there is much difference between the Brasilian national team and the Argentinan national team, justo look at the talents that Argentina has! Sorry, i´ve been aroung seeing football for quite some time, you´re arguments arent so good as you think!

You cannot compare Messi to El Fenomeno. If Messi played against the defenders Ronaldo played against, he would not have been able to dribble passed them as easy. Football in Ronaldo's era was harder on strikers, defenders had more freedom to play rough against explosive players. Nowadays they get booked for ridiculous challenges, therefore its a lot easier for the likes of Messi who don't have physical strength. El Fenomeno was a complete striker, he had strength, speed, explosiveness, ridiculous acceleration, unstoppable dribble, equally good with both feet, header, powerful shot, extremely intelligent in the box and an endless arsenal of skills with which he mesmerised the fans and was an absolute nightmare for the defenders. A true Phenomenon - the only one who deserves that nickname. The greatest player of all time! P.S I forgot to mention that his comeback in the 2002 World Cup was the finest example of someone battling against the odds that I have ever seen... ever! After everything he went through, the two knee injuries after which he was given only 50% chance to play football again, for him to come back and become the top goalscorer in the history of the World Cup was truly phenomenal! God knows what he would have achieved had he not been injured... we can only ask ourselves... WHAT IF?!

yeah, and what about messis comeback? after losing the world cup in 2010, he completely dominated the next season winning 5 trophies, only 1 away from the treble and reached a level nobody has ever reached before. 2014, he lost the world cup FINAL, guess what, next season he reached a level nobody has ever reached again and won the treble. 2018 world cup, he lost again, but again, reached a level nobody has ever reached again and almost won the treble for the 3rd time. messi would easily dominate any era, to say that messi wouldnt dominate it is just dumb, youre just an r9 fanboy that cant except messis talent and that he is the greatest ever by far.

Two years out of the game because of ruptured ligaments on his knee and he comes back and wins the World Cup becoming all time top scorer in the tournament - that is what you call a comeback! Messi never suffered an injury of that scale so what the hell are you talking about? Messi has always been looked after by Barcelona like a little kid. This is probably the smartest comment section I have ever encountered with. I never saw a player who made Messi look not so much of a threat. And this is a guy who played just 50% of his expectation. Messi is indeed the last magician living and we should be honored to watch him play but Ronaldo is just something else. An animal, a beast. Someone who would drop back to the defence, win back the ball and go all the way by himself. He was a complete player who God gave all there is, strength, power, speed, acceleration, finishing. He didn't care who he faced as he just demolished them. He was a living nightmare to both the defence and goalkeepers. I would rather face 100 Messi's than one Ronaldo 9 in his prime. And I say this in no disrespect to Messi.

There are many clips that shows it, many sport articles saying how the slide tackle on Messi was one of the best tackles in history and it shows the quality of a world class defender. Without a doubt if you go to 1000 people (assuming they are both Nesta and Messi fan) and say that messi trampled nesta, they'd tell you, you don't know football. The reputation given between these two is that Nesta stopped more times Messi, than Messi passed Nesta. What impressed me is the fact that R9 is actually a big bloke. Hes 6ft whereas messi is 5'6 with very low centre of gravity and yet ive never seen anyone with R9s dribbling ability. Also he was more skilfull but much more powerful. Insane running power and upper body strength. Literally so complete he could do anything with the ball

Sin lugar a dudas Messi es el mejor del mundo. Y realmente no hay quien le equipare (cr7 hace rato que perdió nivel). Pero R9 es sin dudas mucho mejor que Messi. Tenia todo bueno: fue rápido (demasiado), potencia (demasiado), sabía jugar en 1 metro cuadrado como tambien hacer dribling en velocidad (cosa que ni Dinho era capaz de hacer). Sabía aprovechar espacios, enfrentarse a 1 defensa como fabricarse espacios y enfrentar a 5 defensas... Ronaldo para mi (subjetivamente hablando) es el mejor de la historia, sobre Pele y Maradona.

Le dribble de messi est exceptionnel. Ballon collé au pied avec de tout petits pas. Il semble ne faire aucun effort en dépassant les autres. On ne sait même pas comment il a fait pour passer. Le football avec lui semble encore plus facile. A noter que physiquement et en tant que rapidité il est moins fort que R9 qui demeure une légende dont messi avait dit s'inspirer.

Both players are world class! 2 players in different eras. It's not fair to compare each other. This whole thing "best of all time" is ludicrous. Messi is the best in his era, Ronaldo Nazario is the best in his era. Personally, I think R9 had more impact in the hearts of people than Messi. Just respect both world class players.
