Messing with Jetpacks - Inktober Day 2

Again I started with some thumbs, except of poses because the idea was already pretty solid in my head. I used a large mix of ref of actual people on jetpacks and surfers and combined them into something semi-accurate. There's still some issues with my anatomy from imagination but I'm really happy it's improved enough for this!
Now I wanted to try using pens from the start with this one just to help loosen up so I started with my Pilot Frixion pens (I have a black and blue refill and one pen because the pen itself is expensive). And these erase by heat. They come with an eraser but it's awful. I only erased when absolutely necessary and I just use a lighter (if you hover quickly you won't get any soot or anything and you can block areas with your hand). The bad thing about these is they don't flow well at all, but the good thing is erasing doesn't ruin the texture of the paper. The pen marks it as any pen would, but I actually like this because it makes it easier to follow lines when inking.
And here I inked with my Prismacolor set because I wanted all solid and tiny lines and the Prismacolor Premier Fineliners can do that as I discussed in the Neuschwanstein Castle video. Then I slowly added thicker and thicker lines until I had to use the Faber Castell Pit Artist Pen. I'm still trying to figure out how and why to vary line width.
Now using the frixion pens might look like it'd be easy, but since I used black (I couldn't find my red) it made it really hard to distinguish which lines were which, they are slightly lighter, but it was still hard.
Once I got most of it down I grabbed a hairdryer and erased the lines away. This can take a few passes, sometimes the lines like to come back if the hairdryer isn't hot enough (an iron might also work, but a heat gun or a lighter will probably ruin the paper). If you want the lines back put the paper in the freezer for an hour or so.
The frixion pens are also useful for testing features then erasing them if they don't work.
Now the one thing I messed up really bad was the clouds. They're been on my to do list to practice, but I haven't gotten around to them. They came out quite awful. I couldn't stand them. Now I make sure to scan my drawings before each major change, so the final image is a scan with the clouds digitally erased, then I took the chance in real life to paint in the background light blue with acrylics. This isn't the best paper to do that, it's better than printer paper, but it still warps, so I have it flattening right now, though it seems to have worked nicely for the most part. You'll see it when I show the sketchbook at the end of the month.
Oh and sorry about the vertical format, but it captures more and in better definition than if I had done it horizontal.
