I had the idea and then I went searching for the photo. This one I did from just one ref mostly, I'll find the link later, too busy now, but it was from morguefile.
I was getting a bit tired so I decided to do something easier for me and mostly do a drawing from observation. I thought the textures of the own would give me a hard time, so it was still a chance to practice what I saw into pure b&w ink, but it wasn't nearly as hard as I thought.
I also discovered it's my paper which is good enough and yet crappy enough to allow me to erase hard enough to take a layer off. This is helpful in erasing smudges and fineliner, but horrible for when I do a pencil sketch first and erase a lot. Well at least now I know to keep this in mind.
The lettering I would have done with an actual pen but... I have a Pilot Parallel Pen and the last time I touched it I was experimenting making a different sized tip out of plastic because they're so expensive and I bought the 6mm which was too large. I was also experimenting with the ink and because of all this, it doesn't write solidly and I couldn't find the other tip. I ended up making the letters on a scrap piece of paper, and you can see they're very uneven and light. Then I copied these in pencil and inked them in with the fineliners.
The A came out a bit wonky I think but the spacing was decent I think compared to some of my earlier attempts. I only know some basic stuff I learned in art class in school.
