The Quest Pro is Meta's high end Virtual Reality headset. As a hardcore PC user, what are my thoughts on it? Has it made me more interested in the Quest space? Is it even worth it?

It's a damn shame we won't see face and eye tracking in the Quest 3. Thank you for the review! I was considering maybe getting a quest pro over 3, but the battery life issue is a deal breaker for my use case. It's amazing to see how far we've come with standalone VR in just a few years, though!

Upgrading from the 2015/2017 HTC Vive to this, thanks! Biggest issue is rigging a avatar for face tracking 😭

Rigging for face tracking drives me mad XD. VIVE was a good headset, but this is a MASSIVE improvement.

Non replaceable batteries is an instant killer for anything electronic for me. After about a year of good use the battery lifespan in each controller will be down anywhere from 15-30 percent, then it drops off a cliff even faster as battery health diminishes at a progressive rate after every recharge. There is no reason NOT to have batteries, even rechargeable ones, that are easy to replace.
@RangerRudie
@RangerRudie 11 месяцев назад
They are not hot swappable. You can still replace batterys by disassembling the device.

It's probably a better choice than a quest 3 for pc gaming because you get 33% better performance because of the dynamic foveated rendering, it has local dimming and it's now the same price on ebay.

Looking at those eBay prices and DAMN they have gone down...

I've been curious how the Quest Pros wireless is when using foveated encoding. As well as if it is able to charge while being used when it is connected to a proper, higher wattage USB PD battery. Judging from what if heard about most of the Quest headsets, it sounds like they are not able to draw enough power to keep their battery full, but can be kept running for around 6 hours if constantly connected to a good, external battery. I've been using an Index for a while, and the one thing for me that always reduced my immersion was constantly being aware of the cable, and (on occasion) frequently readjusting the headset due to its weight. (I also really miss the color and blacks of the OLEDs in the original Rift.)

OLED Displays are sorely missed... I can imagine it does well with FOVeated rendering on wireless. Haven't tested it out myself because of my less than stellar WiFi network.

How is quest pro at standalone games?

Were you using the Quest Pro's mic during the whole recording, or were you only using it during 5:23? I'm getting a QPRO (for cheap) and I'm wondering if I should use the stock mic or get an external one. Thanks for any help.
@skyevr
@skyevr 5 месяцев назад
Yeah the Quest Pro mic is ONLY at that section. The rest of the video was recorded using the microphone on the Valve Index.

very informative!! been wondering if its worth the upgrade from my index...
@skyevr

OK I've been using the pro more and more ever since this video came out and frankly I should make a Pt. 2 lmao. OK so here's my current thoughts of it compared to the index The visual fidelity is just flat out better, the headset looks fantastic. The FOV is more narrow, but that also depends on how the headset sits on your face and it can be adjusted with the eye relief knob. The controllers are really nice, but I do prefer the Index's controllers. The pro is FANTASTIC for smaller spaces or spots like a college dorm room. It's really easy to drag out and set up and you don't have to deal with SteamVR light houses which can be a pain if you don't have the time or patience to set them up. I think the perfect combination would be the pro as the headset with SteamVR Lighthouses so you can use the Index's controllers. I'd say it's worth the upgrade, though you may want to look into like a more comfortable pad or an overhead strap. The headset does feel a little heavy after an hour or so of use so you'll want that top strap. There's some that you can find online. Hope this helps!

@@AriWasabii Sure, go for it. I'm anxiously awaiting for whatever Valve has in store. If the Index is any indication of the quality, then I think it's gonna be good.

@mainsource8030 Some people play for long periods of time, long as in more than 8 hours. Then they have to wait 2 hours for the controllers to charge. I would have preferred swappable batteries instead of built-in.
