To bring the detail out on a coin, I use Renaissance Wax. I’ve got two artist’s paint brushes, one with normal length bristles and the other I’ve cut the bristles to about a quarter of the original length (you want it to be fairly rigid). After washing the coin, leave to dry. Then I paint the whole coin with wax using the normal brush, and leave for about an hour for the wax to dry. Once dry I polish the coin with the cut down brush (like polishing your shoes) and this brings up the details. Works for me.
Hi max some nice finds bucket lister very nice thimble,,I like thimbles strangely nice to find all different types off thimbles hope your well take care Stewart Wilts 👍👍
Some nice finds there mate, I love silver thimbles think I have 5 now, I usually soak my Georgian coppers in some sunflower oil overnight then dry them with kitchen roll really brings out the detail, All the best, cheers, Stu.
Hi there mate , good video my friend and well done on the thimble a lovely little find , some other nice stuff coming up as well , take care mate ATB Rob .
To bring out the detail, I use beeswax followed with a light buffing with a Dremel tool with a felt mop head. it puts a shine on the raised areas and leaves the lower surfaces matt. nicer to handle too. I would only do this with non valuable coins of course.
Awesome video Max. It’s been a while since your last video my friend. But a big well done to you on getting your bucket lister, and a real beauty it is to. Not a bad 2 day hunt, I’d be well chuffed to have got that lot. I’ve heard people use wax to show of their coins, what sort of wax I’m not sure about, wish I could help sorry. What made you use a different machine each day. Thanks Max for sharing.
Cheers Steve, yeah I haven't had much land available lately and the weather has been so wet, hope to get out more soon. As for the machine swap, it was for no reason really buddy, I like the Simplex and intend to learn it more, and do some really good comparisons with the Deus in the future. ATB MMMD
Hi Adrian, sadly the Gauss had to go back to the supplier, he had a buyer. I really wanted to take it out more. A friend has one and he's used it a fair bit, and he's pretty pleased with the performance. ATB MMMD
