thank you for making this video. i just received my simplex+ yesterday & can't wait to start swing that coil. i've had detectors in the past, but never stuck w/ the hobby long term, so i consider myself a beginner & certainly had a budget for my new machine. i went w/ this one because everything i saw online convinced me this was the best bang for the buck.

Just purchased this machine yesterday, and wow! What a phenomenal detector, it is so light, clean looking, the display screen is amazing, easy to see even in the sunlight, the buttons on the display screen are fantastic, the build quality feels like it should have cost double the amount its on the market for, very happy!

It could easily be sold for $500 and still fly off the shelves. Just 5 years back it likely would have been in the $650-700 range. NoktaMakro hit a grand slam for sure.

I just upgraded from my BH Tracker IV. Bought this on pre-order, and was waiting for a full review. This has everything I wanted to know. I feel so much more comfortable using it now. Thanks so much for the video! I can't wait to take it out tomorrow! EDIT: I would love to see you review it in freshwater, like a river. That's where I'll be doing most of my hunting. I'm curious to see how it does underwater. Until then, I'm gonna hit the banks, parks, and pastures. Thanks again!

I've got to have it!! I have an AT Pro and I bought my wife an ACE 400. I'm definitely buying the Simplex for her to use in the water and a backup for me. I agree with you. I'm not a fan of where the tones break, but who knows, I may get used to it.

This will become your primary detector, mark my words. I had a chance to compare my AT Pro ( which I love and know extremely well ) at pound the ground this past weekend and it blew my AT Pro away. Sadly in Europe it's 299 euro(329 us) or 399 euro (440 us,1 April 2020). Price in the US is 226 euro (btw is the 250/350 before or after taxes). But hope to buy it soon anyways.

Real excellent review, as always. This seems to be one of those, 'Cat amongst the Pigeons' MD's for sure, I venture to say. Hopefully this re-setting of the bar serves to provide other companies with the incentive to pick up the ante, as a primary response to such competitiveness. Best video I've seen on this unit. Very thorough. I was glad to see that you do not have to use the wireless headphone. Other videos I watched never mentioned the dongle option. I will be ordering it now fo sure. New sub.

Great video! Ive been swinging the makro for 2 years .I have been detecting since 1974.I still have my first detector that still works.Its an old Fisher M scope BFO. I also swing a Minelab Sovereign XS which is an amazing detector with crazy depth.

Excellent, run down on this detector, I love my simplex, I found a 1787 Connecticut 1 cent, in 10" of dirt, on semi- wet ground. I wouldn't give mine up, for nothing, when I'm done, I shall retire it to my wall of fame, with the 5 other detectors I have. Once again, Excellent, presentation....

I used mine for the 1st time today 9/06/20 and just turned it on and ran it I started finding stuff I found a chain at about 1.5 inches it was a junker but dang this machine does work good for a beginner and will be super for me, I just need to learn it and I will be finding Gold and silver this machine is the Bees knees man.

I’ve got an AT pro, an XP Deus and a Nox 800. You’re right why would you buy an Ace now. I can see a lot of hard core detectorists buying this as a backup or even as a detector for their wife (or husband - She Detector). Maybe their kids first detector. This detector is perfect for someone who wants to get a full feature detector without breaking the bank. The shear number of features is impressive. Like you said, it’s not meant to compete with a $1000 or $2000 detector. Another you tuber I like is Dirt Fishing. He also gives honest reviews. Calabash is great too... he has a great country accent ha !

That is quite the collection you have there. Sounds like you are all set. This Simplex really is a home run for the people on a budget just getting into the hobby. Waterproof...fast..deep..easy to use. I might buy another as a backup to the backup! Really is a fun one.

I bought it and now in 2 weekends i found so many things, today 7 coins in garden and forest. additional i bought the white trx and i am fast digging now, highly recommend a good pinpointer additional. it has internal pinpointer which is quite good for the initial location of the target but once in a hole use a pinpointer.

I am now owner of a Nokta Makro Simplex. Ive been detecting since 1973 and yes i have a small collection of beep boxes. Well.... getting on with it I gave it a test run in my test plot of assorted targets and it has robust target separation speed....very crisp....Depth? I have good targets buried in the 12 to 15 range and it made my eyebrows raise. The Minelab Sovereign XS is the detector i use for relic hunting in woods and fields .It hits Zinc mason jar lids deep.. you must have a shovel in hand for the depth capabilities of the 27 frequencies of the Mine Lab Sovereign XS... .Ok..enough Minelab talk..Back to the MAKRO..I gave it a go in my test plot of mixed targets and yes every detectorist should have a test area .toss a hand full of mixed coins along with pull tabs and that sort of junk.... into your yard and overtime they will sink down on their own.I never dig any of it up but i do know whats their in my test plot of buried targets .MAKRO hit all targets even the deep zinc mason jar cap...You will need a good shovel hunting with this machine. Summing it up all i can say is.. there are detectors out there where a pocket knife would be a suitable target recovery tool but not with the Makro .If detectors were rated, they should be rated by what type of recovery tool you will need to purchase would before you buy it . ok here is the scale I just came up with... #1.folding pocket knife #2 screwdriver# 3 cheapy garden trowel #4 a surplus army shovel...( they dont last long.) # 5 a better quality digging trowel with edge serration to cut roots.#6 good quality shovel...#7a strong helper and 2 shovels. I rate the MAKRO at #6 The mine Lab i use I rate at 6...... I have gone through many digging tools and their is nothing worse than not being able to retrieve a deep target because of failed recovery tools.I hunt old homesteads and woods and digging in that soils means roots.Yes i have chopped through roots to retrieve targets and was surprised by a 1830 capped bust half dollar.I will comment again after some field time with this detector. Listen to the signals in your test garden.

I’m loving it!! great review good sir👏 We have really dumb laws about detecting in Sweden but hope it can be adjusted soon... can’t detect my own lawn but Need 80$ permit from the nature and relics “department” for a specific area and if we find something from before mid 18 century our permit is revoked with no refund! Correct. Field and Beach will both provide superior depth compared to Park mode - which increases recovery speed and separation (at depth cost). Appreciate the kinds words!

You should build the ultimate test bed to you're liking. I think a neat example would be with freshly dug coins that still are dirty and uncleaned but you know what they are. I really have not seen that one.

Great review and I'm going to get one. Only problem I had with the review is you never did a beach mode and I live on the beach and will probably only be using it on the beach. I know you said the beach mode was only one tone but still would have been cool. Thank you for your great review,.

It's a high gain unit and single freq VLF. I assume they are correct on some beaches.

Great video, how about a look at that Nokta-MAKRO pack detector. I believe it's called IMPACT. I'd love to see a comparison of these two models. While the Simplex+ is all water proof, the IMPACT looks like it might have better balance.

As much as i want this machine... I've watched many videos of it on the wet salt water beaches and it is too chattery even after ppl ground balance. Compared to the vanquish 540 which is totally quiet, this seems to have way too much beach chatter. That is my biggest issue, the other are the tones. I don't hear enough of a difference in tone pitch between targets. A 25 sounds the same as a 75. Just like you said in beach mode every tone is the same. Why?! If park mode has 3 tones why can't beach mode have 3 tones? This doesn't make sense to me. Also it seems you can't change discrimination manually but I may be wrong. Help me out here why should I buy this with these issues?

It's not made to be beach machine. It's a $300 beginners detector with a beach mode that allows it to function better than most other VLF's. Bottom line is it is a single frequency VLF. It will chatter in salt like all the other single freq machines. Dedicated beach hunters should be using a PI or a Multi-Frequency....one much better than the Vanquish in my opinion...as it is an intro machine as well. Neither one was made to excel at anything...just be decent enough for a beginner. As far as tone...most beach hunters dig all above iron. So there is no "need" for a multi-tone in that mode. In park mode where you may not want to dig aluminum or whatever...multi-tones work in favor of disc. I personally have zero issue telling the difference between the tones. To each their own. If you coin shoot and relic hunt....maybe want to go into the lake or river. Simplex is the one. If you want to hit beaches....Vanquish is the one. Just don't get it wet...it will not survive.

It seems the plastic latches on these units are fragile and break easily. Mine was broken before assembly and first use. A manufacturer rep seemed to intimate this was a common problem, telling me he was trying to figure out the source of the broken units. Seems I wasn't the only one with this issue.

Sorry to hear that. Hope you can get it sorted. NoktaMakro is usually fantastic with repairs under warranty. I personally have never heard a single comment or post anywhere else about the latches being fragile or failing. Not saying it does not happen on a few of them (all products have random failures) - but it is not a problem on a larger scale that I am aware of.

Same machine. Price because of headphones in the only difference. You must use the NoktaMakro headphones to pair wireless.

During the “down the barrel test” I would’ve shifted 90 degrees if I heard that slight high tone it was giving off. Always rotate around a suspect target

Great review. I’ve been looking at the CTX3030 Vs the Nox800, however after seeing this vid the Simplex has now become favourite. Im looking to buy my first and last detector so want to get it right. Main hunting will be beach (Cornwall UK). The multi frequency option on the more expensive machines may be better suited for beach work. I’m unsure.

Thanks! A multi-freq machine will absolutely work better on the beach. While this Simplex is in my opinion the best bang for the buck you can get in the single freq department...it will be bested by a MF machine in salt water. Might want to take a look at the Minelab Vanquish. It has the same tech as the Nox...only less expensive.

This was before the 2.7X series update. They removed 2 of the freqs and tightened up the effectiveness of the channel switch.

The sound of that thing is awe full!! Basically all targets sound the same once they get to a certain depth. And this doesn’t tell you how deep just a round about with arrows. I rather the machines that show 7in even though it’s usually off but it’s close.

It has fully modulated audio in Field and All-Metal mode. Targets definitely sound different at depth. Park mode is not as modulated. No challenges here with the PP rings. Easy to understand after a few targets.
