I would like the original lobo and bandito. They still hold their own in iron and multiple signals. I compare them with the equinox 800 and garrett atpro and others.

Good video Gaz, I would have to say detectors have come on greatly, though I do say that with some caveat’s, I started detecting in 1977, and started with a Joan Allen IB machine, from there onto the c-scope, I think advancements were very incremental during the 70’s, 80’s and part of the 90’s where I think we had in a lot of instances, the same level of technology but packaged and presented in a more modern and progressive way to attract the buyers. The real jumps in technology have taken place over the last 20 yrs, with introduction of micro circuitry, wireless technology, and improved material quality. I love my Deus, my Nox and the Simplex, but my favourite is still my Tesoro Bandido.. 👍

Metal detectors have definitely come a long way in the last 20 years for sure. I can't even imagine what the next 20 will bring. I'd like to see how the 1232 x2 works. It's an interesting looking detetor. I enjoy your videos very much. It will soon be 5 years since I began using the xp deus. We feel in love.... I knew shortly after that I had finally purchased the last meal detector I would ever own. However I was wrong ! There years after the purchase of my deus i.... I purchased a second deus. Now i have my deus that faithfully awaits on me at home. While my second travels comfortable in its hard case wherever go. So no matter where I am it's there for a relaxing hunt... Thank you Gary,,, Keep up excellent work. Joe Keeling

As said by another on here, a great trip down memory lane. I started detecting back in the seventies with a Cscope bfo100, I remember vic the magician, Charlie the chauffeur, couple of motorway coppers amongst others all of whom would get down to frank mellishs shop in Euston at the weekend for tea or coffee and speak on all things detecting, great days indeed.

Use the Tejon for a video . The reason is using that machine you relied completely on what the audio signal was telling you. There is a skill there to learn what the audio signal is telling you. I used to own one and it was a deep machine too, I also had a XLT. My first detector was a Whites 5900 which used C batteries. Very often when I pick up a Deus XP I marvel how detecting has changed so much.

A great trip down memory lane! As a detectorist since 1968, I have owned most of these at one time or another and it was fun to hear your take on them. It is sad that Tesoro and Whites are now gone forever, although Garrett did purchase the rights to Whites. It will be interesting to see what comes out of it. I have 12 units right now, led by an ORX and a Deus. In terms of technology moving forward, I just obtained a Tarsacci and I have to say, on a wet salt beach, it is totally mind blowing. So stable and DEEP. It has replaced my Equinox and Safari as my wet salt sand machine. You should give that one a go sometime if you can get your hands on one to test! Cheers from across the pond!

To answer you question in my opinion No, Detector technology has not kept up with modern technology from the same time frame (80's to present) surely not in the past two decades But this is a good thing because if we had detectors that could be programmed to flawlessly detect specific metals there wouldn't be much left for future generations would there. Second part I would like to watch you use the Tesors Tejon mainly because I have that machine but not yet tried it. Nice video I like the presentation and history I also own several "dinosaurs" there so fun to experiment with.

Great vid Gary. I don't have enough time MDing to comment about experience. Started in Feb 2019, mainly beach hunting with a Whites TDI Beach Hunter. That TDI has found me some seriously deep jewelry. I'll hang onto it. Wasn't until I moved out to Oklahoma, I was using the Equinox 800, but could never get my ears to tune into the sound nuances. Had a terrible time with it. I had some other detectorists I knew, and after they sold their 800's, they picked up DEUS. So I eventually followed suit after reviewing your vids for a couple of months. First couple hours out with the DEUS, I had my Equinox up for sale on auction site, and sold it quickly. Don't miss it. My new elliptical coil came in yesterday and what a great little coil.. Sharp. 13" coming in tomorrow. Look forward to u using the Whites machine and more of your vids. Thx for all the effort Gary. Well done.

I have always been a fan of anything Whites since 1984. Having said that the XLT is the detector I used to find my first Gold Coin! It was an 1854 US One Dollar Type I. It is in amazing condition. Now that I have moved up to the XP-Deus I have to rethink everything! LOL Love your videos and have followed your instructions to sync my headphones and pinpointer to my XP-Deus. First time out I was able to find a US Civil War General Services Jacket button and a fired pistol bullet. Second time out I found two dropped.58 Cal three-ring bullets. I plan to get out again this Saturday and see if I can find anything else. So far I love the XP-Deus. I am awaiting delivery of the 9-inch HF coil as it was back-ordered when I placed my order. I just Love your videos. I just need assistance doing the system upgrade. I have the program down-loaded but am not able to proceed due to issues with the system I am using. I will get it done with some assistance from my son the computer genus! Stay safe and healthy! ;-) Dave

I started metal detecting in 1990 with a borrowed Bounty Hunter Outlaw. I’ve used White, Fisher, Compass, Tesoro and Minelab. I would have to say my Original Minelab Sovereign was the best for coinshooting followed closely by the Explorer. My White Spectrum was the most pleasurable one to use and I found many Silver coins (US) with it too. My Tesoro Micro-Max was my favorite for organized hunts. I still use my Explorer and I out performed my partner last year who used a NOX 600. I still use the factory coil that came with my Explorer although I did have to replace the faceplate.

I'd like to see you demo a Teknetics 8000-9000, or Mark I from the original Teknetics company not the First Texas El Paso company that later got their patents and made more cheaply made machines. It was a George Payne designed detector and ahead of it's time. With it's use it found me quite a lot of silver in the late 80s. I hunted in full tones low discrimination and could cherry pick city yards with ease. The Tek models had features I wish the XP Deus had.....like better pinpointing, ID and the option to use concentric coils if needed.

Of the oldie but goodies, my favorite was the Whites 6 DB. You had to really whip that machine to get the max depth. I made some of my best finds with it, and paid for it the first day I used it when I found a 1840's Kentucky militia belt plate. My favorite now is the XP Deus.I would like to see you use a Whites 6 DB in the field Gary, if you can find one. Great collection, thanks for the video.

Hello Gary. The possibility to add some ENglish subtitles to concentrate for the most perfect understanding as possible is nice, you know that my initial language is French. And this video like a travel into the car of "back to the future of the detection" is a real pleasure. So much details concerning each machine give us a full basket of useful information about their physical rules that we also can learn a lot about that wonderful discipline we do practice. Thank you for that precious dinosaur's presentation! About the challenge, I'm curious and think that it will be interesting, and maybe funny, to see on stage the Nautilus DMC 2B, even if I think to be more curious about the original Gold Maxx you talked about. Can not wait for the end of that strange confine situation, just to see tha captain Nemo's machine on air.

Yes, detectors have come on leaps and bounds, especially Minelab. I think technology moves so fast now its hard to keep up with it, I reckon in the not so distant future, one of the makers will come out with a machine that lets you look through the soil and sand to see the treasure just lying their. Gary, all those Dinosaur Detectors you mentioned I have used, and Tesoro was up until recently one of my favorites due to their Analog Audio Signals where with many of their models I could distinguish Rings versus Tabs when I pulled off the target. I still have two original Cortes, a Deep Search VII and the Aztec. Full Disclosure: I am currently an Authorized Dealer for XP, Nokta-Makro, Garrett and Tarsacci which I believes in many areas out-performs everything I have ever used in many areas, Depth definitely. It too has an Analog Out-Put and the Owner of the company out of Merced, CA Dimitar Gargov, worked for Fisher Research and developed the Fisher Gold Strike, Coin ID and Coin Strike. He is a passionate hobbyiest like your self and too that knowledge as an electrical engineer developed the Patented Tarsacci MDT 8000 which ignores Salinity and Hot rocks, Coke etc. with no loss of depth as it adds it kind of makes use of the ground signal to enhance your deep good targets. I would love to see you do a Video on the Tarsacci MDT 8000. My Dealership is Trans Bay Metal Detectors in Foster City, CA. I would love for you to contact me. I think when it comes to Videos and Explanations of their capabilities and how to tune them, your videos on XP are about the Best I've seen since Jimmy Sierra was making them. You don't polarize folks by Ford v Chevy v Jaguar wars like some You Tubers do. You truly are a professional and a GREAT Spokesman for XP and the Hobby itself. Great video thanks Gary. Although technology has moved on detector depth has pretty much stayed the same as those top of the range old machines and in my opinion that trend will continue going forward. It's all about weight, design, wireless capability and speed in iron and I doubt with this in mind that the Deus will be bettered for its all round versatility. Maybe x ray type detectors in the future but then that would take the buzz out of not knowing what your about to unearth. Would love to see that Nautilus in action

thanks for the walk down memory lane it was funny to see this I just sold all my machines except for the XP Deus hf and the nox 800 I think these are the two best on the market for the money the xp is my primary machine I use the other in water ,rain as a spare . or to do a final sweep of a permission but there's usually not much left . As far as what machine I'd like to see used the Gold Max Power would be my choice I've never seen one here in Maine most of the others I've seen or used thanks the video was most entertaining .

My White's DFX is still a decent bit of kit. I use a Racer 2 and an ORX mainly now though. I wish I could remember the name of my first metal detector. It had a super simple control box and it was a swan neck design with a filled polystyrene coil. The would have been in the early to mid seventies.

I have 11 tesoros. Oldest being the cutlass umax (not cutlass II umax) which ran at the amigo/compadre 12khz. And of course the bandido II umax. And the newest Mojave as well. I did have my deleon sent in before they closed along with the try super 7 cool. They completely rebuilt the coil from scratch (different windings for the troy could made by tesoro) and I had the deleon set to that coil since it didn't have GB for disc mode. That machine is a coin hunting beast!! I had a used cibola and I modded it with GB pot and trigger for pinpoint since the pot went where the button was.

Finally some good videos to watch whilst in lockdown, now if I could only get a good fry up. I’d love to see the Fisher in action, but the Nautilus would be my second choice. Gary I’ve been using a CTX with the Coiltek 5x9 coil for years, but recently switched to the Deus and the original LF coil. If I could only pick one coil to be similar to the Coiltek, which would it be.......the 9” HF or the 9” X35 for our Canadian silver coins? Thanks for your time.
