Metal Dude * Musician (REACTION) - Lana Del Rey - "Ultraviolence" 

This song is about a toxic abusive relationship where Lana’s character is so in love and attached that she’s almost brainwashed into staying with him. There are many women who are trapped in this kind of relationship. Makes me think of women who struggle with Dependent personality disorder. However there’s much more going on between the lines. Lana said at one point she got pulled into a cult where the leader, “Jim” had this philosophy that you had to break someone down in order to build them up. It was very dangerous but she was eventually able to escape it. Jim is also referencing the cult leader Jim Jones and the mass Kool-aid suicide. The lyrics “sirens, sirens” reference an ambulance but also the mythological creatures that entrance sailors with their beautiful song but ultimately kill them. And violins, violens (violence)… violins sound beautiful which she has associated with his abuse. There’s so much more double entendres and meanings throughout this song. Lana truly is a masterful poetic genius

You understood the meaning of the song so well! You would be surprised to know so many critics and people accused her of glamorising abuse. When she was just singing about her experience and so many DA survivors has shared their experiences about this, how when they are in that situation they take violence as the love or affection. It was hard for them to understand that at that time. About Jim, she has used the name many times in her discography, since Lana has had alcohol addiction in teens it could mean the substance or as you pointed about Jim the cult leader, that is a possibility as well. She once said in interview that she was close to someone who was almost like a cult leader but she distanced herself from them very soon. Also a smaller point, this song was from her 2nd Album “Ultraviolence” which might be up your alley (it is soft/psychedelic rock-ish) So for future recommendations any songs from Ultraviolence album will do.

The poetry book idea is very nice! Her reading voice is so calming so I would suggest listening to her audio book. I own the physical copy as well but it was lil hard to get the flow of her poems (for me) But hearing her spoken poetry I could read the poems on my own.

I think since you’re into metal you would appreciate the UV album. Lots of psychedelic rock inspirations. People has said the whole vibe feels like a heroin high. Great guitars and melodies. Jim is a name that Lana has used in her songs since the beginning of her career and nobody really knows if Jim is the real name of somebody she was with or just a name she refers to her lovers as. It’s one of many reoccurring references in her songs over the years. Also I loved how you mentioned “Super 8” as it happens to be the title of one of Lana’s earliest unreleased songs that was made when she went by “Lizzy Grant”. She has always been super retro. I recommend "shades of cool" and "freak"!! Shades of cool has phenomenal instrumentals, especially on the bridge where the guitar overtakes her voice, essentially showing how she's trying to get through to him but she can't. Freak is honestly just fun and psychedelic-pop, kinda cult vibes given the music video and the lyric "screw your anonymity, loving me is all you need to feel like I do"

i told u, UV is something else. ultraviolence (the track) is not from Lust for Life album it's from the same name album. it shows Lust for Life (her 4'th album) for promotion during its time. anyways, why don't you try the other tracks on this album? this album is my favorite lol
