This song is about a German officer, that at the end of ww2 defied Hitler's order to save him and instead rescued German troops and over 50,000 civilians, by holding bridges on the west side of Berlin. He escorted them to American lines and surrendered.
The americans were on the other side of the Elbe. Watching this and doesnt allowed the germans to cross and capitulate for them. They falled back and let them cross when soviet artillery started to hit the army standing there. Just expect what it has to be. As american: Looking on the other side, seeing all these civilian, soldiers, waiting and just wanting to cross the river as german: Waiting, got declined t ocross, and simply look in the sky and hear the artillery shells fired upon you - till the americans retreat and you can fall back.
What an interesting first song you discovered by Sabaton! It's lowkey one of my favorite tracks, though not the most famous. Looking forward to seeing more reactions of this awesome band.
Sabaton is a Swedish metal band they sing about military history Battles, People, and don't take sides no matter who it is they also have a history channel, Sabaton history This song in particular is about the battle of Berlin in WW2 as the Soviet Union advanced into the city Hitler ordered General Walter Wink ( I don't know how to spell his name) to link up with the 9th army and save Berlin however He would disobey Hitler's orders and opened a corridor to allow Soldiers and civilians to escape Berlin and would surrender to the Americans at the Elbe river. To add a little more info, opening the corridor required him and his soldiers to break through THREE lines of Soviet armor and troops, then hold those lines open against Soviet counterattacks long enough for the others to get through.
Sabaton tells stories about military history. Almost all of their songs are based on true stories. I could recommend you legit 20 or 30 songs, probably more, but i cant be asked to write them all down lmao. So I'll just write down a few. Sabaton is amazing, they have new album now. This song is not part of new album it's from 2014. I recommend something from the new like Hellfighters, Dreadnought and The Valley of Death. or older songs The Last Stand, Carouls Rex, Poltava, Killing Ground, The Art of War and many more
Good to see another person getting into Sabaton and I’d so recommend watching their history channel too it gives the story behind all their songs and a bit about the band itself and it’s creation of them.

But to do this properly I think a good starter pack of Sabaton is the way to go. :) So I will suggest 3 songs/performances/videos to showcase their things. After that, you are good to go in any direction you want. They are not necessarily their best songs, but they will show you the complete picture. And obviously they are great anyway. :) 1. It's the story about a Swedish soldier going into war, the 30 years war that ravaged Europe during the 17:th century. It's really great entertainment. As I said, that is a small package to get you hooked, they have tons of great songs besides those. From the new album they just released I really like "Christmas truce", amazing song, amazing story and an even better music video.. Also "Unkillable soldier", really fun song with a fun video telling the story of a really weird guy. :)
There're so many great songs by Sabaton, that they're hard to point out. However, the most 'reaction friendly' might be Soldier of Haven, Night Witches (The animated version, No bullets Fly (Also the animated version), Bismark, Christmas Truce and En Livstid I krig (Live Sweedish version. Remember the subtitles as the text is extremely importent). One piece of advise. Never, EVER, stop a Sabaton Video until it's finished. They often put a little message at the end, that makes the song give even more meaning.
