Well, it isn't, really. Metal Gear for the robots that are in every game (Gear made of metal). And Solid also represents Solid Snake (the old protagonist) and the game series's transition to 3D.

The first game in the saga is actually named 'Metal Gear'. In the third installment, they put in 'Solid' in the name as the main protagonist was Solid Snake. I didn't know this and really thought the words were very random XD.

Story: Big Boss works for government, sees flaws in US government allegiance, makes mother base, mother base blown up, big boss is cloned without him knowing... multiple times. One of them is Solid snake. Solid snake meets his "father" big boss. Kills him. Actually just turns out he killed a perfect clone of big boss. Finds out he has a defect that causes rapid aging. Ages rapidly. The real big boss and Solid "Old" Snake meet up in a graveyard both as geezers. Something Something Something *You're pretty good*

+Vic Vinegar The main story is pretty easy to understand. I think Kojima went a little over-board in trying to tie every single social science issue known to man into one big knot in MGS4 though.

Scquagilychicken Thanks for the salute! Yes that is the gist of the series. But yeah, I was just commenting on how Kojima tries to tie so many different real-life historical events into his main cluster-fuck of a story. Yes, at the core you have this main issue over a mis-understanding of the Boss`s views on where soldiers belong in this world. But then Kojima ties so much other bullshit tied into it to. Like the use of child soldiers, cloning, genetic engineering enhancements, nuclear weapon deterrence politics, information censorship, the use of AI and its consequences... the list goes on and on. And he has to give some kind of historical accounting of how each issue is tied into the story. You have to sift through a lot of fat to get to the meat on the bone.

I think a complete cgi movie like final fantasy 7 or 15 coming soon is the way to go, have a lot more ability to do cool sh*ts. But the story is the big problem, retelling the old stuffs is not a good way to go, but the story was so wrapped up and confused, it really hard, even for kojima to tell anything else (except the venom snake turning bad sh*t evil story, but i don't think it had enough materials on it own)

Did You Know...Snake was intentionally made to look like Snake Plisken from Escape from New York. In MGS2, Snake goes under the code name Iroquois Plisken.

"Metal Gear Solid" took its name from the original Metal Gear series, itself named for the walking battle tank Metal Gear those games featured. Kojima's decision to add "Solid" onto the end had multiple meanings, most tied to the number 3. (I'm not making these up, I just can't remember where I read them). Numbers carried to the 3rd power are "cubed," and this was the first MG to feature 3D polygonal objects -- cubes, which Kojima identifies as "solid" objects rather than shapes. In the natural phases of the elements, "solid" is number 3 (as in gas-liquid-solid). There's nothing random about the title. It's the English name of a tank named by a non-English speaker, and then a weird play-on-words follow-up that you have to be an obsessive math and science nerd to understand. Not random. Just odd. ...Like everything MGS.

Anyone else do that easter egg trick near the beginning of the first game, when you're in the air vents and spying on that one chic doing push ups, if you do something (don't remember what) and come back she's doing pushups in her underwear? That was hilarious! Hahaha. MGS is one of my favorite franchises. The story is really difficult to understand and sometimes kind of absurd. But I can't help but love it! There's many interesting and serious themes that are developed through it. And the gameplay and the jokes, man! Kojima is insane, and I love how he puts his insanity on his games, it's creative and fun. MGS is like a military-themed anime, that can explain it's weirdness.

I loved this series.. thank you for making a honest trailer for it. I do feel each game should have had its own trailer. Because each game had numerous hours of gameplay that could've been covered. It saddens me as a fan of the honest trailers that you guys hadn't.

There's not just Samurai Jack's actor Phil Lamarr, in the first game, you've got Greg Eagles, aka Grim from and Billy and Mandy as the Darpa Chief president and Gray Fox in MGS1, the remake had Rob Paulsen as Gray Fox, Metal Gear Solid 3 had Lori Alan as The Boss, Steven Blum was Gene and Zadornov, Tara Strong is Ursula and Elisa and Paz. And Jennifer Hale is Naomi.
