Hello everyone! We want to clarify a few things. We are NOT comparing BTS and BLACKPINK. They are their own groups writing and preforming what they want to. We only mentioned the BTS thing because we got a decent amount of suggestions for BLACKPINK in the comments of our BTS videos which made us think they would be similar to BTS. We are in no way hating on BLACKPINK. We respect their music and their art. This song simply was not for us. They are very talented and clearly speak to many people! Please be kind to one another in the comments. This is not a competition about who's better. This is just a space where we can kindly discuss our opinions and stories with one another. For me, Black pink make catchy songs that can be fun to sing along to, but I've found that at least for the songs I've heard by them, it really doesn't matter if you look at the translated lyrics or not. Contrast that with BTS, where you are seriously doing yourself a disservice if you don't read the lyrics. I enjoy listening to Blackpink but on the whole I am an ARMY and not a Blink.

I really enjoy ur videos and i love how honest and appreciative u r , i’ve seen a lot of reactors react to kpop groups and instead of appreciating their hard work and just say it’s not their cup of tea they go about it the other way by being so rude and they start talking about how bad it is and how they womder who listens to this kind of music , we’re different in a lot of ways and we have different tastes so u can’t like everything but u still have to be respectful about it and that’s what u guys did ❤️

How You Like That lyrics is actually about someone putting you down but despite that you have to soar high and be strong no matter what - because at the end, that someone who puts you down will never remain above you.

BTS and Blackpink are totally different. The girls are very talented but their company, YG Entertainment doesn’t give them a lot of creative freedom. When it comes to BTS, like you guys watched in other videos, they were always involved with their craft. I don’t think you’re gonna get deeper meaning in Blackpink songs, but they have great songs ☺️ Blinks, please, this is no hate to the girls

I am a huge fan (Blink) of Blackpink. But also understand everything is not for everyone. Pretty sure they won't do it for you, they do have slower songs but are mostly hip hop hype pop. As a rock lover myself, I think you would like Dreamcatcher, and perhaps even (G)-Idle. Dreamcatcher's Scream MV is a good starting point for lyrics and sound, it is also the first song in the Dystopian trilogy. They build albums like some 70's rock artists did, they tell a story. (G)-Idle Tomboy just came out a few months ago and will give you an idea of the kinda punk rock feel they are developing. Kpop groups will experiment will all Genres of music because of their training. They have heard it all. Have fun discovering and don't sweat the fanatics, just be you!

I think watching their documentary on netflix will also give you a better introduction to these girls. as much as i love blackpink they barely BARELY have artistic freedom. It’s already been 2 years without new music from these girls and that’s all due to their company’s fault. Blackpink also has alot of side to them so obviously there’s concepts they’ll try that you won’t like and that’s ok!

I’m a blink first before I became an Army.. Blackpink has a good bop music and I really love their personalities too. I’m just so sad that their company doesn’t treat them well. But i’m happy to their individual achievements now. They’re one of the best influencers/model right now 😊

Septa, I think you’re gonna LOVE Dreamcatcher, they have metal/rock influences on their sound mixed with pop and hip hop, it’s very cool. The girls are all amazing singers, specially Siyeon. Their last tittle track was about saving the planet, they talk about cyber bullying and many other things

BLACKPINK: Journey and Friendship

I'm an ARMYBlink. I had a feeling you guys wouldn't like Blackpink as much as BTS and that's totally okay no matter what anyone else says. I hope you guys don't get too many hate comments because kpop has some really toxic fans, no matter what group it is. You guys are so true and genuine which is awesome, I'd hate to see anyone ruin the experience for you. I hope you guys reach that 10k btw! You deserve it!

One of the disadvantages of being introduced to BTS' music for me is that, I can't get into listening to other groups' songs anymore. Bangtan has set a standard, lyrics wise that made me long to listen to songs that have deep meanings in them. So even though I acknowledge that there are other great artists out there, many of their songs (including some that I used to enjoy before) sounded shallow to me now. Don't get me wrong, this is not to start hate or comparison. Just sharing my personal experience.

It's true that BLACKPINK's music is not for everyone. And that's why I'm going to put a fragment of Jisoo in their recent interview with RollingStone. "I listen to music when I'm going through a hard time, or don't want to think about anything. I hope our music can have the same effect on many others." So yes, if you're looking for deep/meaningful lyrics, the ones about everything & nothing, the ones that makes you question the existence of life or even your existence, BLACKPINK is not for you. When you're feeling down, going through difficult times, having a hard time, what better than listening to music that lifts your spirits, change your mood, that makes you even want to dance, that makes you forget about it, even if it's just a moment, that's where BLACKPINK comes in. At least, this is what I perceive from Jisoo's words.

I hope you two give Blackpink another chance after reading my previous comment explaining the story behind their song "How You Like That." I think one song isn't enough to get a sense of who they are. They have softer and deeper songs representing their "pink" side, but they aren't as popular as the bangers representing their "black" side. - "Stay" is a beautiful, acoustic track about how despite all that goes on the world, they will always find comfort in each other and their sisterhood. It's a really special song for Blinks (that's our fandom name) because Jennie cried while performing it once since she helped write it and it reminded her of their past as trainees in YG Entertainment. - "Lovesick Girls" is like Stay 2.0. Not necessarily because of the sound but the message and lyrics. Jennie and Jisoo helped write it so it's super special to us. - "Don't Know What To Do" doesn't have a music video but there is a dance practice video. It is praised as one of Blackpink's best choreographies and is a beautiful song. I clicked on this video because Black Pink got me into kpop. Then I knew BTS annd fell harder for them. Although I don't listen so much to bp anymore because I've been focusing on BTS, I can say that this group has a lot of catchy songs and amazing mvs. SUGA from BTS once said that once you get into them, there's no turning back. And thats what exactly happened. I tried to stan other groups, but none worked out 😂 I am aware that there are many more artist but i decided to just stick with BTS while listening to other artists from time to time.

Checkout Mamamoo a kpop girl group, best vocalists in kpop regardless of genders(I mean if we consider both boy and girl groups). They are friends of BTS (but belong to different companies)and BTS and MM respects each other very much. MM often covers BTS songs too

TXT - Frost Special Performance Video This one has full edm music but the vocals really blow my mind, they look like they sing a rock song but the music is edm 3. TXT - Opening Sequence (performance on M2 channel) idk if this one more like ballad or what, it feels so intense, the mellody bring really sad feelings and also anger at the same time, goes the same with the lyrics, it's a painful break up 4. TXT - Blue Hour This is one of TXT's best song with bright and cheerful concept, the song sounds so cheerful and catchy, but the message of the song actually still not really happy 😅 4. ATEEZ - Wonderland This one sounds like anthem with those marching sounds 5. ATEEZ - De Javu I don't really know how to describe this one, but I want to recommend it 6. Dreamcatcher - Scream This sounds like Metal X EDM 7. I like your honesty guys I personally like Blackpink 💕 their songs because are fun and they are really talented but I’m more like you guys in the sense that I really love artist with deep and personal lyrics. I have been looking for a female K-pop band that is more like BTS but haven’t found one yet. I appreciate the suggestions here in the comments. Hearing this makes me appreciate BTS more though, we are spoiled.

Every k-pop group is different it's not important they make songs about deep meanings abojus life as BTS it's there own story why they wanna make music like that but that doesn't mean other groups aren't like that it's just bts made the company what is it today and so the bang pd let them do what they wanted..while the other companies decides everything about group going to debut under them ..so Blackpink is girl crush concept but there songs are amazing even if lyrics aren't you excepted but that's okay sometimes

I see from the comments here that you have been introduced to the not so pretty side of kpop/pop music: the fanwars between fandoms :c To understand the beef(? between those fandoms, you gotta know that BTS and Blackpink are arguably the most popular kpop groups right now, BTS being the most successful group as of now period, so those two frequently face off each other at award shows, same with music releases, who gets more views, streams, charts higher, etc. Also, Armys (BTS' fandom) like to remind blinks BTS did it all first, BTS paved the way for all the groups after them and that they write their own music or that BTS didn't have a big company behind them for media-play; and, Blinks (Blackpink's fandom) like to say that BTS didn't pave the way for their group's success and that their group got famous/achieved stuff faster, most of the members speak english well, etc. Meanwhile, BTS and Blackpink each do their own thing without downplaying the other or their work, and in the few times both have interacted or shared the same stage, they were respectful to each other and didn't seemed to mind at all. It's just a competition thing i guess(? the group who's on top vs the group who comes in second, whatever it is, some armys and some blinks can get really disrespectful and annoying sometimes but I can assure you it's not real, it never gets anywhere else outside online communities like twitter, RU-vid comments, Instagram, that is. Yea BP are good for specific reasons their songs have a lot of women empowerment vibe to them… very sassy… they did Coachella which is huge fir K-pop Artist… but BTS is doing UN speeches and performances.. their companies are very different.. but both are impacting the music scene very differently.

🖤Blackpink💓 is my favourite kpop group. Actually their songs have a lot of symbolisms if we pay attention. After watching your reaction, I feel like you haven't seen the whole picture of it( like the beginning of all their journey). But I hope you react to them soon and get to understand them gradually😊. Maybe some day you can appreciate this song and the feeling its bringing. As for more suggestions, love to hate me, lovesick girls, playing with fire etc. would be good to start with. (G)-IDLE is a great kpop girl group to check out! They have a unique discography and they like to mix up their genre every time they release a new album. Their latest release ‘Tomboy’ is a punk-rock song with meaningful lyrics and it’s a favorite for first time listeners! BP got me into kpop, I'm more into indie side of kpop (lol if that even truly exists). I don't listen to them as much, as BTS per se. But BP MVs are out of the world, set design, costume, and their music production is wild. The ladies are super talented as well, like born performers. However, their labels control over their music is easily the most frustrating part of Black Pink. I'll throw some wild kpop recommendations check out no blueberries by DPR IAN, Rum Pum Pum by Lee Jin Ah and Above the time IU.

You guys are really open minded. as an avid rock fan who got into BTS and tried to branch out to other kpop groups because of curiosity (and failed) I can say what blackpink represent is what I exactly hate about kpop as a whole and what made me avoid it until BTS managed to break down my prejudice 🤷‍♀️

bts songs have a balance of catchiness and having great lyricism and have diverse genres and other kpop grps are more about vibes and beats. this is the difference between em. we don't take bts under "kpop" because they have their own genre "bts pop" they doesn't really fit under the limited boundary called "kpop" they surpassed this tag already. no there is not similar thing with blackpink. their songs are generally just catchy and bossy. it's ok not to like some songs bc it always bout taste and feel free to give opinions.

I'm definately ARMY but I'm also BLINK friendly. My bias would be Jennie. I tend to lean towards rappers. They're all gorgeous girls with great talent. Their choreographer, I believe trained and worked with Parris Goebel from New Zealand. Rose was born in NZ and Jennie went to High School here as well.

Is it weird that I feel kind of relieved seeing you NOT immediately fall in love with blackpink? Like absolutely no hate to BP, I listen to them a decent amount, it just reassures me that you guys are honest and genuine in your reactions and don't just say you love everything to please your viewers, because I feel like that happens with some reactors once they get kpop fans in their comments... they react to BTS and start branching out into more kpop because it's good for engagement and then they praise all of it to keep their new kpop stan audience happy, and after a while it starts feeling like you can't trust them when they say they like something

It is understandable that Blackpink or either this song may not be your cup of tea. I don't see anything negative in your reaction except you have to be careful to mention/compare another group or band in the said artist in your next clip. In general, K-pop fans are quite sensitive, defensive, and sometime toxic. You may not have intention to have fanwar but it can be happened. Hater or others fandom sometime come and have offensive comments if you give them a chance. Then, the protective fan will fight back. ( I just talk in general, not specific only the Army or Blink. )

When I discovered BTS several years ago & was pretty immediately hooked and intrigued, I delved into a bunch of other popular Kpop groups because I wanted to know what else I had been missing!! I feel your vibe, though, because what I found was that pretty much every othee kpop act (besides BTS) was similar to what you saw here with Blackpink: a beat, a hook, choreo, crazy visuals and costumes - but very shallow musically and lyrically; like 50% of the 'lyrics' are just sounds, not words Now sometimes I am TOTALLY into listening to stuff like that - when this song comes on, I move! But to delve deeper into a group with my time, only BTS made that worthwhile. They are just DIFFERENT compared to the entirety of other Korean groups. I think that's because Bang SiHyuk wanted a group that wasn't doing what everyone else was doing within kpop, and also because so many of the BTS members from the beginning were part of creating the songs as lyricists or producers

Blackpink is great at boss girl hype songs. I hope you will also check out Stray Kids, esp Venom and Thunderous

I appreciate that you guys were open-minded. I'd just say that in the future, do not make comparisons of K-Pop artists because 1) unfortunately, comparisons are EASILY misinterpreted to be a method of putting down one to raise the other and 2) not all groups are the same so setting expectations might end up wasting time. I am happy to recommend other artists you guys as metalheads may enjoy though! Dreamcatcher is a 7-member girl group who fuses elements of rock and metal with striking pop vocals. They're songs are pretty deep. They had a "nightmare" storyline, a trilogy about cyberbullying (Scream, Boca, Odd Eye), and their recent song Maison about the environment got them their FIRST music show win! Pixy is a somewhat new 6-member girl group with a very dark concept that I am unsure of how to explain. There's slight horror elements. Check out their debut song "Wings." Mamamoo and Red Velvet are two other popular girl groups who constantly compete for the unofficial "vocal queens" title. Mamamoo is great at harmonies but I think RV has more distinct tones. Either way, their songs have deep meanings. Check out Mamamoo's songs: Windflower and Hip. And I recommend Psycho and Feel My Rhythm by RV.

I would suggest you guys do your own research on Blackpink. There’s honestly a lot of people giving you information without actually having any in-depth knowledge about girls or group in general and they openly bashing and naming stuff why are they not listening to Blackpink like it’s some facts. If they don’t listen it means they never got to know them. Some hater says they lip sync or have nothing to do with their music and you’re like “oh, ok, what a shame”… when in fact they are actually one of the groups who from rookie years did only live vocals with minimal backing tracks and they do work on music and are credited for it. Especially when it comes to their latest releases or solo work. So please do look into stuff on your own because you really don’t have a lot of blinks here at the moment 💖 I feel like people who don’t see any depth in Blackpink songs really don’t look for it. Not all of their songs have deep meanings but every group has those bangers (including BTS) that are just for fun. Even this song has two narratives: giving a middle finger to haters and also a story of getting out of toxic relationship and finding yourself again. Even the video is telling the same story in Greek mythology references from the very beginning: opening with goddess of victory statue hanging above them in a temple - near the end of this video (before dance break) they all take a stand in front of it to take her place and her wings, to show that all this struggle they went through at the end is their victory and how strong they got after all they’ve been through. There’s Trojan horses and referral to the legend, Persephone and Hade myth references in Rosés scene where she’s switching between being in dark cave underground and laying in what looks almost almost coffin made out of flowers ,… there’s so much in this and yet is sad to see people just brushing everything off 🫣 Look into their Lovesick girls, You never know, Hope not, Stay (more vocal oriented songs) and just don’t loose that curiosity and open minded state - it’s rare thing to have but negative comments can really make you loose motivation sometimes! 🙌

Now, non kpop related, I highly recommend two singers you guys are probably gonna love. One is Aurora, she’s from Norway, her music has some alternative/pop/folk vibes, her voice sounds like heaven, very delicate and sweet. Her songs are always about meaningful topics like mental health, female empowerment, nature (The Seed is a must watch music video). The other singer is Florence Welch, she’s the vocalist of Florence + the Machine. Also amazing, power vocals, great lyricism, kinda alternative pop/folk/indie. She has just released a new album called Dance Fever and my favorite song is Dream Girl Evil. She’s amazing!!!

I'm mostly into BTS as far as kpop goes. I've just started branching out and listening to some other groups. I like several Blackpink songs (Kill this love, and this one). They're fun to listen to, but I don't get emotional about it like I do with so many BTS songs. Stray kids is another group that I've been enjoying. Their stuff is just so different from anything else I listen to. I enjoyed the reaction and I'm looking forward to more from y'all. Thanks! 💜💜

Reactors like yall are confusing...I hope yall know just bc u think a song does not have "meaning" does not mean the song is not VALID...that is and WILL forever just be YOURS and whoever else thinks like that PREFERENCE in a song....I feel like bLACKPINK's songs are EDM based heavily but they tend to have meaning here and there. They make bangers and that's all that matters I guess bc their views and likes MATCH up to their name they made for themselves. BP is one of the most famous girl groups in the world rn by a HUGE MARGIN so if people do come here with hate don't mind them but when you assoicate BTS with BLACKPINK or say things like "you are looking for meanings" in songs like other groups have then obvi people will be triggered. Now I am not coming at yall or nothing like that but you guys literally replied to a comment saying "that's a shame" that BLACKPINK lipsyncs....they really don't BP HAS A LOT OF HATERS and yall just opened another portal for it lawdddd now I gotta go argue in these comments....

I knew this comment section was going to be crazy lol, there's a lot of infighting between kpop fandoms but as much there are toxic people, there are waaaaay more good/respectful people, but anyways I have a few comments. Blackpink is my ult (favorite) group (along with Dreamcatcher), and I would consider myself an Army also. First, I think it's easy for many people to dismiss this song lyrically because of the chorus, but I find the verses and the bridge really tie in well with MV visuals & the overall meaning of the song. Blackpink takes long hiatuses (by kpop standards) between releases, so this song according to the lyrics is about coming back from a dark place or your lowest moment for a grand return & asking people who hated you or doubted you "How You Like That". There's more dissecting that could be done like Jennie sitting below water, Rose looking like she's in grave of sorts before rising surrounded by flowers, Jisoo grasping the light shing from hole, the world map, the trojan horse, etc. Second, all Kpop groups are different and unique in their own way, they all have different companies, they all have their own stories/journeys that are embedded in their music, and they all go through years of training (for example, between the members Blackpink had 4-6 years of training) before even being allowed to debut, so they can all sing, dance, perform, play instruments, act etc. I haven't seen a group that I didn't think was talented in some shape or form even if didn't vibe their music completely. Third, some Blackpink recommendations, if you to learn Blackpink's story I'd recommend their Netflix documentary "Light Up the Sky", it was inspirational at least for me, you can watch it on your own time or if you have a Patreon I'd be interested in watching a reaction. For live performances, I'd say their Tokyo Dome or Coachella performances. For MVs, "Stay" is soft spot for the members & fandom, "Lovesick Girls" is my second favorite title track behind "Kill This Love". Last, other group recommendations, my other ult group Dreamcatcher, they're the only group to consistently incorporate rock/metal influences into all their title tracks, but their b sides have a variety of genres, they're also touring the US soon, I'm going to their NY concert. Another group is G-Idle, variety of genres, a genius leader who's written or produced the majority of their discography, the other members have been getting into it lately too, their most recent comeback was more of a pop punk sound. Another group is Mamamoo, some the most amazing vocalists ever, wait until you hear their harmonies. Ok I've written too much lol bye, don't take the haters comments to heart, just keep being honest and stating how you feel with good intentions and the good fans will find you.

Before anything, I don't hate Blackpink, it just that their music is not my style and this whole short essay is only MY opinion and I can express my opinion because I've heard ALL of their songs. It's not that hard since they have not so many songs. Kpop is, in my opinion, the most fundamental or basic group. I'm not hating, but if you ask me to define kpop, I'll say Blackpink without hesitation. They are the most fundamental and mass-produced group. There is a lack of substance and contents, they don't have a song for their fans, they model almost 24/7, they have the most basic choreography, practically all of their discography is about being badass, and so on, they are simply overrated (in my opinion). Before I knew about Kpop, the only thing I knew and thought about was that these idols were just kids or young people who had a good looking face and could sing and dance a little bit, and were formed into a group to sing and dance to produced songs by in-house producers. But BTS sets the bar too high with all their talents and achievements as a producer, songwriter, choreographer and more. Do you know that BTS is invited to White House to meet Joe Biden?

I think for pretty lyrics on Blackpink songs... I would suggest "You Never Know"... There's a line on that song that says "I'm afraid to finding myself seeking approval from others" (Bro, I really feel that ) and probably "Hope Not" 'cause that song allows you appreciate their pretty voices (there's no many sad songs of Blackpink 😅) Also, I would recomend "Don't Know What To Do"... This one is interesting because It has sad lyrics but the music is to be hype up😂 I really appreciated your honest opinions... I would have recomended Kill This Love to be your first one of Blackpink... That song is also for the bad bitch mood (" I'm gonna get over this" kind of song) but It has a stronger melody.
