Pat, awesome work and diagnosis of the problem and knowledge few would have, to fix it. You remind me - of me lol. Is there not a vertical adjustment also? I love your old lathe and having to manually move the belt to different pulleys to adjust the speed.
There is no vertical adjustment for the drive unit, however, the belt tension can be adjusted at the linkage on the tension handle. The flat bet is old school for sure. I like it. It is a little slower dealing with speed changes but I'm not a high production shop either :). The "quick change" gear box for the lead screw feed is an upgrade from the model "B" and "C" which is handy.
Patrick, I just so enjoy watching you; and how you teach home to do things. I don't know anything about these things but I find it Amazing how you can figure it out.
You inspired me to finally replace my old belt. I ended up getting an old serpentine belt from B & P auto repair and splicing it together my self. Works great. I should have done it a long time ago. What size belt did you order for your lathe? I have a replacement belt that came with my lathe but it is 53" and mine is 63". It has a tapered joint that you have to glue together which eliminates the clicking sound.
Oh the finesse! Wind direction, temperature, humidity, time of day, day of the week, time of year and the way you hold your mouth all have an impact LOL!
I enjoy watching you trouble shoot equipment and figuring out what is needed. You always impress me with your solutions. I don’t think a lot of people would realize there was a simple solution. Phil
Mr. Rain, I worked as an industrial mechanic for decades. You wouldn’t believe how uncommon a good troubleshooter is. Too many people overlook simple solutions and try to make things complicated. You seem to possess not only a good eye for troubleshooting but the ability to grasp the most practical solution with materials available. If we had a real SHTF event, I would want you in my camp! lol. Phil
That means a lot Phil. Our goal is just that. To figure out things and be self sufficient as possible and network with folks who can compliment one another with additional skill sets. Sooooo...when are ya movin' out here so we can work together :D
Because those links are upload defaults since this channel is not JUST about metal working but DIY in all forms including cooking, food preservation, raising chickens, sewing, crocheting, medicinal herbs and much more. If I did not put a link to something specific you are looking for it is either because I simply forgot (beings that I am human and all and am prone to make mistakes unlike perfect people) OR because I could not find a link to that product. I do hope you will understand instead of just being angry about not getting all the information you wanted even though all the hours of work that goes into making these videos you are able to get for free.
Let me go ahead and spoon feed you so you can stop throwing a tantrum. Go to EBay and look up flat belt. You can find different widths for your application. You will need to also know the length of your old belt as the seller will custom cut it for you. There ya go, more free info for ya. You have a great day.
@@MrRain-hk4zi Wow you must have some anger issues! Don't blow you're top. I'm sorry if I got your panties in a bunch. BUT You did say in the video that you would put a link in the description if anyone is looking for a belt. The entire video was about changing the belt! It's just so bizarre that you have all those other links. There are people making thousands and even millions for posting on RU-vid so it's not free. I guess I should bow down to over the air TV and radio too since I get those for free.
Mr. Jon, please take time to read my own comment above Patrick's that you clearly missed where I did explain about the other links and know that it is not Mr. Rain that is responsible for putting in the links, that is MY job. Patrick knows the crap I put up with from angry people every day that get mad when something is not exactly what they wanted seeming to forget that they get all this information for free, that we are only human and DO make mistakes, and also that there are over 93,000 other people subscribed to us. His "anger" is more for my sake than his own so please stop being a jerk. Yes, we earn a very modest income on youtube, just enough to pay the bills, but it still comes to you for free. That is what we mean. Now please be grateful that Patrick took time to give you the information you asked for.
