Yeah after my comment I made and seeing this it all makes sense. They really didn't do a good job mixing this. Nik is so humble when it comes to listening to new stuff idk how he was like wtf is this? 😂
Eh which part of the mix sounded like it blows to you? I really liked it, seems to fit the song perfectly. Loud parts are really effing loud and quieter parts are interesting, and the tone is good
@@nathanielcava4128 common courtesy did that’s the last I listened to. Very midrange heavy very little bass. 6-800 hz honking in my ear. Sounds crap during the palm mutes. Believe it or not this mix is way better. Shit song tho unfortunately
Guys I figured it out. They just mashed Mountain Song by Jane’s Addiction and Still Waiting by Sum41 together😂😂either that or they accidentally released their entire album but it morphed into this one song
I'm really curious to hear the rest of the album. All 4 singles as of now have had distinct sounds so I'm excited to see what the rest of the album has to offer
Producer: so do you guys have the new single ready? ADTR: actually, we wrote a whole album Producer: not in our budget, just put it together and make it a single
I feel like the strangest part is the how the metric modulation is off. If the slower part was in half time of the speeder parts, it would have felt more connected. But its just that much too slow to really work.
Yeah it's like a fully fledged academic tempo change instead of the usual half-beat/double-beat that metal, post hardcore and pop punk songs usually play with for good effect. This kind of time modulation wouldn't sound off in a prog song, but this... It's just a mood killer
Right? The transition from the pre chorus to that chorus is so bad that it might as well be from two songs that don't even belong on the same album. I like prog as much as the next person but could they not have made the transitions better? It's almost as if they just shed all the fucks they had while writing this song. It's like they wanted to make this a prog song, but then decided they still want all the core but also don't want to be an Erra rip off, so they took a punk song, a core song, and a random core influenced chorus, and they just Frankensteined all of it together
I just recently listened. I didn’t know what happened to attack attacks guitarist but I must say I am entertained...ABSOLUTELYCRANKINMYMF’INHOG! 😂 is very refreshing.
The whole song sound so off. One minute I'm head banging then the next scratching my head. I hope Fueled By Ramen isnt to blame. ADTR's other songs were bangers.
2020 has become the year of the metal band to soul search and completely experiment with their sound. A clear evolution has been occurring because of quarantine. This is only a good thing for the future or metal.
does he always try his very hardest to not say when something is bad when it is bad? I like ADTR too but I can be honest about it. Does he ever say anything bad about a song unequivocally??
The thing is this song tries to tell a story if you connect the paces with the lyrics it's basically life going on in it's full speed and the slower part is when you inadvertedly hit a brick wall (which is the slow part)
It sounds like the song that's first on the album that leads into the 2nd track of the album, like it's not meant to be the standout song, but its to set the tempo into the 2nd song and the rest of the album
That was such a genuine laugh around the 2:00 mark when it changed again. Love watching your reviews even when I don’t like the songs….and it’s extremely rare that I don’t love the songs. Sadly this one is one of the rare ones. ADTR stays top 3 most listened to bands of mine though and will always be.
Honestly, as a hardcore ADTR fan, I think it’s like this for hype. I think the song is “everywhere” because it’s like hitting a Brick Wall. I think they’re hyping up the rest of the album. I think that the other songs on the album so far (Mindreader, Resentment and Degenerates) have the feel of their roots. I still love them, and I think that it’s going to be a precursor to the rest of the album. I think even though it’s all over the place, it’s still a banger.
Nik, you and everyone else who enjoyed ADTR’s older catalog should check out the band “boys of fall”. They just released their new album “distance” today, on 11/20. They sort of remind me of what I had always imagined that ADTR would have progressed to but didn’t.
since everyone is hating, ill take a difference stance. i dig this. yeah weird, lot of tempo change, but it really felt like these dudes just had fun with it, and wanted it to purposely be off the wall. instead of regurgitating the same old crap, they went a diff round. was it my favorite.. not by a long shot, but i do enjoy the change of pace. fun song none the less. love the reactions nik.
Esta canción es una maravilla, ninguna Banda ha hecho algo como esto, mezclar varios estilos en una canción. ADTR lo hizo muy bien y consiguió un muy buen resultado :-)
HAHAHAHAHA had just the same reaction as you did the whole song. In particular the "I'm not new to this music part". So much laughter watching your face while you lived through what I experienced a few days ago !
I think they specifically wrote this for the mosh pits build up tempo leading all the way up to the BRICK WALL part where they can have two walls of people destroying eachother lol
I respect the fact that they wanted to change things up and fuck it, they took a shot even though it missed for most of us. If they keep experimenting more hopefully they refine it in incremental steps and not all at once like this song did
@@flololo not the melody, sound or song but the way they trying become unique and put different genre together that definitely BMTH thing now. But the different BMTH doing that so well
ADTR are so diverse i never know whether to expect punk vibes, rock pop or full blown metal. This song is like a combination of a few different ADTR styles.
For me, this song has no replayability. Sure, the chorus and breakdown were interesting, but definitely is not something I would listen to again. Without a chorus and with very bland verses mixed with transitions that killed the flow for me everytime, I just don't think I'd ever enjoy listening to this song more than maybe two or three times.
The masters of pop song structures and pretty simple catchy choruses makes the most confusing song ever. They’re elements of this song I really like, but overall it’s just weird and confusing. I love all of ADTR’s albums idk if this next one is gonna be it though. Also, why are they signed by Fueled By Ramen? I thought they had their own Label. Lol
The song is fucking dope I am absolutely baffled at all the hate in the comments section. What is he talking about with the replayability is tough? I’ve played this song 300 times already and it gets stuck in my head for days. This and bad friend are the two best songs on the album. This sounds classic ADTR to me. Who cares if the tempo changes? It sounds fire as hell
Damn, I thought ppl would be more accepting of prog, especially on this channel by now.... But everyone just follows what the reaction' persons vibe is I guess... Seemed like a damn good song to me... nice to actually have more variety in metalcore.
Agreed. As a prog metal/rock and math rock lover i found this song interesting. But the comment section mostly are just saying it weird, worst song ever, not again... Although some parts of the song are repeated and a bit boring/unnecessary, but generally, for me, a nice song which has different feeling compare to other adtr songs I've heard that sounds too simple to me, the changing tempo and combined elements, i personally would like to replay it XD
Yes I wasn’t too keen on the change from chorus to the second verse. After that, I feel the second chorus and bridge blend well into the last breakdown-ish part. I would’ve enjoyed a quick ending rather than that long outro. It was something different and I love the energy at the end. Pessimism is a Killer is probably my favorite line off the album.
It's really weird that i haven't liked anything that ADTR has put out in awhile but despite 90% of people hating this, i actually like it for some reason. I love Oceans Ate Alaska and Structures so maybe I'm just used to weird timings and transitions lol.
Polaris - Dusk to Day If I Were You - Always Searching Fit for A King - Louder Voice Transient - Nightmare New Years Day - Come for You Drown This City - Stay Broken If you haven't listened to these songs, then do it. They're ALL bangers. Trust me, i'm Canadian.
@@Rob_Cary I feel that. I disliked degenerates a lot, but the mixing was at least better than this track. I'll also be transparent and say that the last ADTR album I gave any attention to was what separates me from you, so I'm a bit biased since my favorite album is for those who have heart lol
@@FamineWolf I like Common Courtesy the best. I feel it brings out the best at all they can do. Like all their albums though, production is trash. They always took the radio rock approach of mash all instruments together so they sound like they are one track and put vocals louder over top of it. Even on the heavy songs. Their last album didnt touch common courtesy for me and the production on that one was the worst yet. I feel like this album will have a few songs on it that Ill love and the rest will be trash. Thats the impression Im getting thus far lol. Worst album title of all time also. Let us thank you first before you say youre welcome lol
It just kills the mood, constantly changing tempo, I literally tried tapping my hand along and got so confused. The ending will be skipped straight up when it starts, so unnecessary. It’s weird. Not a great track. Unsure why it’s a single?
Meh. Sounds like a C or D grade song that shouldn't of made the cut. The song is the biggest cut and paste track using every trick they've ever used. What a mess.
So many people dont like it. Thats ok i mean I understand that its not "normal adtr" but in one weird way the mixups worked for me super. Ending.. hmmm ok but i sounds good to me
This seems to be the first time that people don’t complain about a certain level of heaviness or screams in a song of a band like adtr but for me it is just a bad song. I’m sorry
This is like Track 7 on every album you own. you don't hate it, but keep skipping over until one day you don't even realize it came on. Cause you're just jamming to the whole album and now it grew on you, and you regularly listen to it now. If you know, you know.
@@bradleybaynard5536 i understand that completely i mostly love how unique it is and how different this and their other stuff is from for example homesick
I feel like I’m the only person who actually liked this track lmfao. The mix is weird for sure, but overall I’m glad they’re trying something out of their comfort zone
I liked it Aswell. I've liked all of their new songs :) especially Degenerates. Been a fan since 06 and My favorite albums is FTWHH. I feel this album could be their best in a while
