I'm waiting on my Altmill and I cannot help but think I could make the gantry universal for a plasma cutter.

yes I've been assisting at sienci labs - and we are talking about that. It's good to see your interest. There are a few users - including myself that are also interested in making it into a fiber laser cutter...

What did you use for a bit?? And what gauge is the sheet of metal?
@SienciLabs
@SienciLabs 16 дней назад
The bit is a .125" single flute upcut linked below. bit.ly/3XXrn2x The metal is 16g steel Thanks for asking!

can you guys upload a test cutting into 1/4" or 1/2" steel plate?
@thedadchronicles
@thedadchronicles 17 дней назад
This is most likely 18 gauge, you'll never see a machine cutting steel that thick with a bit.

The metal is 16g steel. Close guess! ;)

@@SienciLabs so, why not cut thicker material in multiple passes?

Anyone considering this should know to NOT use dust collection or leave unattended if you are cutting ferrous metals.

Can I ask why no dust collection
@SienciLabs
@SienciLabs 17 дней назад
Yes! Rob, thanks for pointing that out! No dust collection because it's a fire hazard. If a hot piece of metal got mixed in with the sawdust that's already been collected, it could ignite.

There isn't currently a 4x8 version - but there is some chatter about it.
