Thrill is about 10 years old now. The band has growen soooo, much since these days. BandMaid is the epitome of the Japanese culture, there are no stand out performers. Sometimes you see the bassist, MISA do a short solo, almost always Kanami will follow with a short guitar riff. Akane does a phenomenal drum solo in "Freedom." But they never try to out shine thier peers. Watch anything live and you will get blown away by thier talent. Further Miku, the secound vocalist did not know how to play a guitar at the time of this video. The band decided she looked odd standing there in the background alone while Siaki sang, so they gave her a guitar to "hold" Miku said if I'm going to hold a guitar. I'm going to learn to play one. She practiced 10 to 12 hours a day until she could match the talent level of band.

Funny enough that’s how MISA became a bass player too. In high school a friend’s band needed a bassist so she moved from guitar to bass. She’s an amazing bassist and the band knows it, so she’s featured on a lot of their songs.

The greatest rock band in the world right now! I just had the distinct pleasure of seeing these ladies live a week ago in Chicago and they rocked! You have to see and hear them live to completely understand their overwhelming awesomeness. I recommend checking out any of their official live videos, but really any of their songs will showcase their immense talent. The live video most people recommend to new Band-Maid listeners is "Domination", but I also love "Freedom", "Real Existence", and "Onset". My favorite is probably "Puzzle" but there's no official video for it on RU-vid although there is a great live video on Bilibili. I look forward to following your journey down the pigeon-hole Po!

Welcome aboard, John. You are embarking on (along with many others - 158 million YT views plus over 40 million reactor plays!) an awesome, progressive, hard-rock journey with 5 incredible women. Here's my intro blurb for those who may be new to Band-Maid: BAND-MAID’s songs and sound beat with the heart and soul of all rockers. But you’ll also hear heavy influences of Prog, Punk, Metal and Pop, with nice touches of Blues, Jazz, Funk and Grunge. Sometimes they use multiple genres within the same song. Their Composition, Execution, Joy of Playing, Consistency (124 songs), Uniqueness, Charisma, Charm and, oh yeah, Cuteness factor, position them as becoming the hard rock Beatles of our time! In other words, they’re destined for mega-stardom. Each member's personalities are super interesting and their musicianship among the best. Their writing, arrangements and overall sound, especially guitar tones and drums, are kick-ass! Having seen them LIVE, I can honestly say their performance, sound, stage appearance, and band synergy is off-the-rails spectacular! Band-Maid is the only band in decades where I love nearly EVERY song they’ve done. I have over 70 favorites! "Thrill" (2014) is a great place to start: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Uds7g3M-4lQ.html Their songs from albums Unleash, Unseen World, Conqueror, World Domination, Just Bring It, Brand New Maid, and New Beginning drive even more - Warning, No God, Different, Black Hole, Rinne, Blooming, Moratorium, Domination, Clang, Dice, Spirit, Don’t You Tell Me, Turn Me On, Fate, Play, Hide-And-Seek, Secret My Lips, Puzzle, Choose Me, I Can’t Live Without You, and on and on. But don’t miss out on their powerful, beautifully written, mid-tempo songs like Daydreaming, About Us, Anemone, Endless Story, PAGE, At The Drop Of A Hat, Mirage and Smile... or more punky like After Life, Don’t Let Me Down and Screaming… or funky like Bubble… or bluesy like Manners and The Dragon Cries… or poppy like Start Over… or a bit jazzy like Wonderland… or progressive like No God, Giovanni, and Black Hole… or cultural like the Band-Maiko series… or instrumentals like From Now On, Don’t Be Long, Onset, Without Holding Back and Going Nuts… or their many acoustic versions like Catharsis and Sayonakidori... and last but not least, their Anime hits like Sense, Glory and Unleash (from their own Anime MV (series?)): ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7LB_EPS48HE.html) And many songs are represented with over 40 well produced music videos. ru-vid.com Most performances should be experienced from their LIVE audience & online OKYU-JI concerts:  ONLINE OKYU-JI (Feb. 11, 2021) “No God” ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nAdWnIRjGak.html  Tokyo's LINE CUBE SHIBUYA (February 14, 2020) “Domination” ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QbyQCJn6rYg.html  ZEPP 2018 “Real Existence” ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--qQnKILR5u0.html  Shinkiba Studio Coast 2017 (Full concerts from the last two songs are on bandmaidprime.tokyo and DVD/BD/CD) And some of the better quality 2022 US tour Fan vids are excellent. Here’s one of what it’s like to see Band-Maid LIVE at an intimate venue:  And by Wave Potter with their last 2022 US tour OKYU-JI concert in Chicago: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-R9BcFwZz3cc.html If you like Band-Maid, make sure to support them by purchasing some concert tickets, CD, DVD/BD & Merch, etc. bandmaid.tokyo Like most Band-Maid songs, I like them from the get-go but really start to appreciate them after more hearings and seeing their LIVE videos. I'll go back and see an older song like YOLO, Order, Shake That, Freezer, Before Yesterday, Real Existence, Non Fiction Days and Alone, etc. and realize there's no band that can consistently construct and play like Band-Maid. For fun, check out an awesome, little known "Mega Band-Maid Mix" by DJ Ray of some of their earlier stuff: facebook.com/djrayboston/videos/1004709499579009 Band-Maid Members: Saiki Atsumi (Sy-i-Key or Psyche) “Ice Queen" - Lead vocals, arrangements and melodies. At 28 and the youngest, “Sensei” (Teacher) as band members call her, has the last word on many musical decisions. High-heels or sneakers, Sai-chan’s smile melts away her sometimes perceived, coldish persona. Saiki’s powerhouse performances, charisma, and voice focus the experience that’s driven her to the top echelon of hard rock frontwomen... or frontmen! Miku Kobato (Me-Ku) "Small Pigeon" - Rhythm guitar, vocals, lyricist, 31 years old. “Koba”, as Saiki calls her, is the Band founder and a firecracker MC & PR SpokesPigeon, po! Her “Magic Spell Time” charm and energy ignite the room. Kuruppo! No, no, no… KURUPPO!! Kanami Tono (Ka-Na-Me) “Princess” - Lead guitar, keyboards, 31 years old, is a prolific writer of most Band-Maid material. Kanami (translates “Song Wave”) is a possessed riff-slayer who’s so damn adorable it hurts. The only thing you want from Mincho is more! Akane Hirose (A-Ka-Nay) "Gorilla" - Drums, 31 years old, band energizer & co-clown with MISA. Achi’s talents include massive consumption of noodles and bananas, of course, (even during performance!) while revolutionizing rock drumming with relentless drive, dynamics and the kick. This “DrumZilla” is the Party! MISA (Me-Sa) "Barefoot Assassin" - Bass, 30 years old. An alluring free spirit driving her 5-string to rapturous low-ends while pulling off surprising counter leads with Kanami, off-stage MISA is the band’s goofball ballerina. Sometimes seen as the Mysterious One because she lets her instrument do the talking, the Assassin literally kills it… every note... uniting Band-Maid’s world-class rhythm section. A slug of JB, a slight grin, and let the slappin’ begin… MISA! MISA! MISA! Maidiacs (Maid-e-acts) - Band-Maid’s crazed yet supportive, knowledgeable and loyal Super Fans. [BAND-MAID NEWS]  BAND-MAID PRIME - Special Video Distribution Website. Along with nearly 50 great play-through’s by each member, concerts and skits, Band-Maid management / label(s) have included the ZEPP 2018 and Shinkiba Studio Coast 2017 concerts! Fans can now see more than 50 great live performances with awesome audio, etc. like Fate, I Can't Live Without You and the great MISA / Kanami exchange in Don't You Tell Me. Those concerts are two of the best produced & performed concerts ever recorded, IMO. bandmaidprime.tokyo  The Maids SOLD OUT 2022 US tour just wrapped up and was a fantastic success. And so many great live fancams to watch! Their playing and antics were as fresh and fun to experience from first show to last. BRAVO Band-Maid!!!!!

A couple of my favorite songs to check out are Blooming, Moritorium, Rinne, Secret My Lips, Don’t You Tell Me (live version), Onset, Warning, Dice, Choose Me, Non Existent Days, and many more that are hard rocking catchy masterpieces!! I will enjoy your reactions to this amazing band of maids!

Heh heh heh... welcome to the Bamd-Maid rabbit hole. MISA is the bass player, Akane on drums, Kanami on lead guitar, Saiki lead vocals, and Miku is the band's founder on guitar and vocals. If you are like many of us, every new song is a new favorite. Although they are much better live, the omv for Dice is a *gentle* next step. But really you can't go wrong with any of them. Some say Domination Live, but I think its better to work up to that. Buckle up, dude. It's gonna be a jourmey!

Domination LIVE is often the most recommended next step. Manners/Black Hole live double feature is great for demonstrating part of their range at least. Onset (instrumental) live or their latest instrumental From Now On shows off Kanami on lead that you only get short blasts of in their regular songs. Their catalogue is very deep, 120 or so songs and I haven't found a bad one yet.

I know this is a very, very late comment on this reaction but, you are right, there are those bass players who are originally guitarists who seek being in a worthy band. For example, Jimi Hendrix's English bass player "Noel Redding" was a guitarist who really wanted to make it as a front man guitarist. That said, Jimi's other bassist, Billy Cox, was a bass player - period.

Their agency was going to disband them after this final recording, BUT the MV got 2 million views in 2 weeks on Facebook. Forcing a change in plans. Miku (rhythm guitar, lyricist , spoke's pigeon) founded the band in 2013, first recruit was Kanami,(lead Guitar, composer) followed by Akane (drums) and MISA (bass). It was then decided that Miku's voice was too soft to front a rock band so they tricked Saiki into joining the band. Also they needed a fuller sound so rather than getting another member Miku said she would learn to play the guitar only if Kanami would be her sensei. Oh, they call their maid costumes their Battle Armor!! 45% of the Facebook views were from the US and Europe and their biggest fan base today is the US and Europe. They have been touring in both since 2016 and just finished up their sold-out 13 city US tour and now are touring Japan with Guns and Roses. There're 200+ Rock/Metal bands in Japan with about half all female. Japan today is the creative center of rock/metal with most talented , skilled and professional musicians and singers anywhere. Next for Band Maid - "Freedom" live and "Influencer" official studio MV.

Yes, they were ahead of the curve. Not sure what you can even compare them to in American rock. They may be the best rock group in the world today (I think they are). They are certainly the most creative. You are going to get a lot of suggestions. I'm subscribing just to see you dive into this rabbit hole. Problem is most of the links get taken down pretty fast. These are a bunch that are official or unlikely to come down. First, a little background on the girls: Saiki Atsumi - Lead vocals Born Feb 8, 1994 28 years old MISA - Bass Born Oct 15, 1992 29 years old Kanami Tono - Lead guitar Composer and main arranger Born Sept 28, 1991 30 years old Miku Kobato - Rhythm guitar, backing vocal Born Oct 21, 1991 30 years old Akane Hirose - Drums Born Dec 14, 1990 31 years old Miku was working in a Maid Café after being in an idol group that didn’t break through. She envisoned the idea of a maid-band that plays hard rock and metal. She recruited Kanami, after finding a Kanami guitar cover on line; Kanami then recruited Akane, who recruited MISA. Akane and MISA had been students together at the Tokyo Music Academy. The group decided they needed more vocal “oomph”, and collectively recruited Saiki. Miku didn't know how to play guitar when they started, so Kanami has been teaching her. She's become good so fast that she is really adding to the music mix, and Maidiacs are daring to dream of a dual solo. Next, you have to listen to them live. They are that rare band that sound perfect live, even better than in the studio. Freedom (Feb 14 2020) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FHpuEqMAcDg.html Domination (Feb 14 2020) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QbyQCJn6rYg.html Choose Me (Feb 14 2020) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HcqitbXgigU.html Onset (Instrumental-insane!) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mVrN-j_Uc0U.html Daydreaming (slower ballad, gorgeous): ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RCaeUkrItyY.html If you want more background, I suggest you react to this classic interview. So, that was a really early video, they've developed a lot since then. The second vocalist can now play the guitar she was simply holding,... and play pretty well. The lead guitar writes all their music now (not then) and the drummer has grown into a monster. The lead vocalist has taken lots of lessons and developed healthy technique, and the bass player, well she just gets better. Check out the live performance of Domination (Official Live Video) from their last concert before COVID. Also, the Blooming MV or my current favorite the From Now On MV (here's a link for it ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pN_wg8UAz9A.html ). They have dozens more on line.

This was their very first Music Video from way back in 2014 a year after they formed. If it hadn't gone viral their label was going to drop them. Miku could not play guitar at all when they started. She found Kanami through her guitar videos online. Kanami had played before in a project with Akane on drums. Akane attended the Tokyo School of Music with MISA. They worked well together, but Miku had always envisioned BAND-MAID with duel vocals. She decided to drop back from lead vocals, since she didn't really have a Hard Rock voice, and they found Saiki working at the same Agency as them. Them Miku began taking guitar lessons from Kanami and the lineup was set.

This 2014 video was the make-it-or-break-it video for Band Maid. At this point Miku couldn't play the guitar since she thought she was only going to be a vocalist in the band. However this video did so well due to exposure in foreign markets, that it was decided that Band-Maid was going to be a successful project and that gave them the financial wherewithal to get started. This is before MISA and Saiki started dressing Gothic. Band-Maid is Jimmy Page approved!

Welcome to the world of the MAIDIACS! THRILL was BAND MAIDS first song from 2013. Same band, same ladies, same THRILL of a band. Watch the MISA (aka the barefoot Assasin!) the bass player's guitar. She has 2 Jimi Hendrix stickers on it. It is a sign to her mother who loved Jimi Hendrix. A quick version of how BAND MAID was created - MIKU (rhythm guitarist - Rickenbacker writes the lyrics) worked at a Maid Café in Akihabara Japan before starting BAND MAID MIKU found KANAMI (lead guitarist - writes the music) by chance watching RU-vid videos KANAMI was making KANAMI thought MIKU was a strange girl - but without any reluctance she joined with MIKU and thought the maid uniforms were cute while playing the rock music. KANAMI contacted AKANE as the drummer AKANE contacted MISA as they had gone to music school together MISA was hesitant to join as she was not into the maid outfits. Changes to the outfits were made for MISA (KANAMI writes the music with input from MISA and AKANE) MIKU thought here voice "lacked potency" she says "I want more coolness" so she went looking for another singer to do twin vocals. Saiki joined around 1 month later Also, from a radio interview - - (Chris): What amazed me most about your play style is the changing of picking to slapping, and then picking again so smoothly. Some bassists may throw their picks away to slap, but you use the same pick when you change from slapping to picking again, right? (Misa): No, I don't throw my pick away. I have become better as I practiced. For the recent 2-3 years, I haven't lost any pick. (Chris): Show me how. (Misa): I keep the pick with my index finger and palm. (Chris): Then you slap the bass with your thumb and middle finger? Can you show me how you play? (then Misa shows how) (Misa): Because I've been practicing these days, I can change faster than ever. (Chris): You are mixing them up! That's awesome! (Misa): I think anybody can do it if you practice. Misa - BASS GUITAR plays Black Cloud "Smoker" and Privat Reserve (SG Style) bass - Orange AB200B MKIII Amps When you watch Domination - replay it slowly and you will see MISA switch exactly as she explained it in the interview.

IMO, there are two types of rock bands in the world. One is BAND-MAID and the other. In other words, they are very distinctive and extraordinary. Check out WithOutHoledingBack to see their drum, bass and guitar skills. Each part is well visualized. Onset live is also good. If you want to see live performances, Freedom live, Domination Live, Play Live, etc. are a must. their lives are really good. A band that makes us smile.

I am thoroughly impressed by your observational powers. You saw the drummer, bass, the one real guitarist (even though Miku was holding a guitar, she could not really play it well at the time of this video), and two vocalists. You even called it by noting the bass player, MISA, was something else. I respect ability, and I can see you clearly know your stuff. Instant subscription from me! Fast forward to today, regarding the vocalist who could not play the guitar (her name is Miku Kobato) - well she is now endorsed by Zemaitis. That should give you a clue as to what happened in this band. Go check out their later music videos, especially their official live performances. I am sure that as a musician yourself, you would want to see how they handle themselves on the stage. Keep up the good work, Mr John Reaves!

Well, that's another one hooked! Aussie Division of Maidiacs reporting in, hoping against hope they will eventually tour Down Under. A live Band-Maid concert is locked on my bucket list, along with another amazing all female Japanese metal band, Lovebites. (A broad hint for your next exploration - they have just signed a new bassist who is set to blow everyone's minds. Not that their old one wasn't awesome. Did I mention they have *two* of the best lead guitarists of the modern era? 😎). btw, Band-Maid opened for Guns & Roses in a 37K capacity venue in Japan a couple of nights ago. Word on social media is that the Gunners would find them a hard act to follow, lol. Subscribed, cheers.

I could say that about any of their songs though and they have like 50+ videos on you tube. Next year is their 10th anniversary. They range from late 20's to early 30's currently. They just finished a US Tour where I had the privelage to watching them in DC at the Fillmore. Cheers! (If you love bass, MISA, the bassist for Band Maid, sees a lot of feature work in their songs).

@@JohnReavesLive They were even better live then even their live videos, they exceeded every expectation. There were 2100+ at the Fillmore, Silver Springs that night and we were vocal, My only regret was not making a second concert as 100 minutes was no where near enough. If you do videos off their official you tube channel, you will be fine. I have never heard of them blocking those. Its the unofficial videos posted by private people that carry some risk.

THE best Rock band in existence. This is an old MV and they've come a long way since this was made several years ago. They shine at their brightest live so I'd recommend something like PLAY ( ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3LxX_t4vg7U.html ) or DOMINATION ( ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QbyQCJn6rYg.html ), which, incidentally, segue into each other as they're from the same 2020 performance.

@@JohnReavesLive ... That's understandable, you've got a long queue of stuff to get through. The "Thrill" MV trended & is what made them famous & kept them afloat in 2013-14. You asked in the video what to react to next & frankly just pick any of their music videos & any of their live performances at random, because they are all good, from their official youtube channel, unless someone else gives you links. The Maids just wrapped up their 2022 US tour a week ago. Anyway, I'm sure the rest of the Maidiac fanbase will now be knocking on your door. FYI, here are the names of the gals, usually seen from left to right... Misa (bass), Miku (rhythm gtr, harmony & founder), Akane (drums), Saiki (lead vocal), Kanami (lead gtr). Have fun. By the way, that was a fun live stream a couple days ago (Story of BTS documentary). :)

Love to see you doing Band Maid. Can't wait to see you react to one of their more recent videos, if you think they were impressive in 2015 (when this was released), be prepared to be blown out of your socks when you hear them now. Two of my favorite things about Band Maid are 1) how much fun they always seem to be having (they really do like each other!) and 2) they they are always challenging each other and working to be better. Kanami (lead guitar/composer) asked Akane (drums) what her max bpm was and was told "around 200" so she made the song Black Hole 220 as a challenge. Miku (backing vocals, rhythm guitar/lyrics/band founder) found that her voice wasn't right for the sound she wanted for the band so she stepped back, they found Saiki (vocals) and then Miku had Kanami teach her to play the guitar. She now has a signature line of guitars by Zemaitis (the Flappy Pigeon). The next stop is traditionally "Domination" (LV), "Onset" (LV - instrumental) and "Freedom" (LV). If you want to hear something more recent, "Manners-Black Hole" (LV) is terrific and their most recent is "Influencer" (MV). They have over 100 songs and I haven't seen or heard a song that has been a disappointment.

Misa, the bassist, is the best rock bass player ever (check out "No God"). Akane the drummer is top tier. Check out "Domination (live)" and the more recent music video "Influencer". Their instrumentals (Oset, Without Holding Back, From Now On) are all excellent. For a change up try "About Us" and then you must check out the acoustic and electric versions of "Puzzle" to get a feel for their interpretive skills. There are just too many great songs by the Maids to list here.

The first step down the Band-Maid Pigeon hole starts with "Thrill"...enjoy your journey. This is from 2014 and this video saved them as a Band. "Blooming" DICE" "Domination official LIVE" you'll eventually get to them all. "Influencer" is their latest. Band-Maid Is: Akane Hirose (Ah-kah-nee or Ah-kah-nay) -Drums Nickname: “Ah-chan” and "Gorilla" because Akane eats bananas a lot for her stamina) MISA (Mee-sah) - Bass Guitar Nickname: "The Barefoot Assassin" MISA always performs with no shoes and "kills" everything she plays Kanami Tono (Kah-nah-mee) - Lead Guitar/Songwriter Nickname: "Mincho" “Kanamincho” Miku Kobato(Mee-koo) -Rhythm Guitar/Lyricist/Founder/Backing Vocals/Lead Vocals Hardest working girls in music Nickname: "Little Pigeon" (Miku’s surname means “Little Pigeon”) ....po Saiki Atsumi (Sy-kee) -Lead Vocals Nickname: "The Princess" “Si-chan” Saiki is the Princess but Miku is Queen
