METALHEAD REACTION TO KPOP - Dreamcatcher - 'What' 

lol love that intro! rock just isn't popular in korea, so that's why dreamcatcher isn't big over there. I'm sure others already mentioned it, but they do other genres with their b-side tracks and also do awesome song covers (in english too). they probably also have the best choreo among girl groups, I mean they really go at it.

They're probably underrated because their concept is a lot edgy-er as opposed to groups like BlackPink who even though are tougher than other groups they still hold to that 'cute' concept that Korea really enjoys.

If i'm not mistaken, majority of Dreamcatcher's music has been produced/composed by Ollounder and Leez (two different composers, not a band). They did "Chase Me", "Goodnight", "Full Moon", and multiple of their b-tracks, three being in Dreamcatcher's latest album 'Alone in the City' (Intro, Wonderland, July 7th). "What" was composed by 김희원 (Kim Heewon), TASCO, and 위더베스트 (withthebest), and that's including instrumentation for bass, drums, guitar, and keyboard. For their Prequel album, the guitarist for a few songs was Kim Taehoon. The girls have also taken part in writing lyrics. Whew, hope that helps :). Kpop is a very weird genre when it comes to how popularity works. Majority of the time, how major the entertainment label is that the group is from is what determines how huge and successful they will be, because there is an underlying stereotype that groups from big companies must be way more talented than other groups in order to have even gotten signed to said major label. This obviously isn’t true as you can see, because there are extremely talented groups from all companies not just the big ones. But what ends up happening is usually groups from smaller companies are overlooked and not recognized (there are some exceptions to this though)

I agree with your Evanescence comparison BECAUSE their vocal range is very similar if not identical to Amy Lee’s. I actually just said the same thing to a friend a few days ago. They are more talented than ppl realize.

As in many other k-pop groups every member of Dreamcatcher is needed and equally important. But each of them has their functions and place in the group. JiU is the leader, she is the mood maker and takes care of the communication within the group and with the company, she is very good at leading and taking care of her members, she also always remembers about their fans In Somnias. She is also a vocalist and dancer. SuA is the main dancer, the vocalist and occasionally the rapper. She is also a choreographer, she choreographed Dreamcatcher's cover of "Havana" (originally for her and Dami, but now they perform it as a whole group). She is a small bean. Siyeon is the main vocalist, she does the ad-libs for songs and records demos. Handong is the vocalist, she is the only Chinese member so she also works hard on her speaking Korean. Yoohyeon is the lead vocalist (she sometimes switches with Siyeon). Dami is the main rapper and the dancer, she is very charismatic on stage too. Gahyeon is the youngest and the vocalist. I don't mention being the visual, bc Dreamcatcher have 7 visuals. So that's how it looks. I understand you asking about the lead, bc usually in the bands there is the front man that the band forms around. There is no such case with Dreamcatcher. The only thing I could probably point out is that, 5 members of Dreamcatcher were in a pop group called MINX (JiU, SuA, Siyeon, Yoohyeon, Dami) but they weren't very successful and their company decided to redebut them with the addition of 2 new members (Handong and Gahyeon). They have this girl group vibe, but they also are very unique among girl groups in k-pop. Their choreographies are very energetic and quick and in my opinion their voices sound a little bit more open and full than other groups'. They are from a small company so their popularity didn't blow up instantly, but they are still quite popular, bc they always deliver quality music and performances. Everyone who watches them live falls in love - I've had the pleasure of seeing them perform in Warsaw this year and that was an unforgettable experience.

The lead of Dreamcatcher is Jiu, the girl in the white crop shirt in the white room and in the red suit in the beginning of the video. Their whole new album called “Alone in the City” is really good with an interesting and new vibe, so I definitely recommend checking that out ok your free time :)

what I love about Dreamcatcher is that they're a versatile group, they've shown that they can pretty much do any genre, I fell in love with them because of their rock sound, but my favourite song has to be Sleep-Walking

JiU is the leader, but the main vocal is Siyeon if that is what you meant. She sings the chorus.

You asked what band is behind them. I think the answer is none. ReacttotheK is a reaction channel by classical music students that analyse Kpop. And according to them this is all MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) or something similar. Meaning no actual instruments but samples of the instruments sounds that are mixed together (At least that's how I understand it, but I am by no means knowledgeable when it comes to stuff like that). Also there never was any band or musicians credited for Dreamcatcher songs. Always only composers and producers mixing and arranging the music. The only thing coming close to a band playing for them is a special video they made of one of their songs in which they performed with a band made up of fans.

I'm so happy you guys are happy, and with a reaction of dreamcatcher! It still a really hard to find youtubers who do reactions of them so often so thank you so much for this. Also, the leader of the group is Jiu, the one with the red suit that appeared between the umbrellas. I also recommend you guys to check out their dance practice videos, they are really good at dancing and their synchronization is sick. I personally recommend Chase Me, but you can see it in every dance practice.

Sadly they arent as popular as other groups, they are under a small company (in korea that's a big part of how popular a group is) and groups with a hip-hop -ish urban sound are the popular ones but they have they own growing fanbase in korea and international!

Its been known that coming from big companies is REALLY a BIG thing in kpop. Because usually groups from big companies already have attention from kpop fans and people anticipate them. They have already a popularity even before debut. Thus, group from small companies need to work way harder once they debuted to get noticed. Sad but this is REALITY. However, there is still group rise from small company and being top group like BTS. They are definition of rising from the bottom. However, there were some girl groups from 2nd generation growing to be popular such as girls day, t-ara, sistar, etc. Its just they are just in hiatus or already disbanded.

I think the main reasons Dreamcatcher haven't made it bigger are twofold; for one, their style doesn't fit in as well in Korea, as far as I'm aware - their following seems to be more international than domestic. Second is that they're signed to a smaller label, Happyface Entertainment, so they don't have the promotional budget of bigger labels like JYPE, YG and SM.

I really hope that the can performed What at the big stage like year end award or kcon.. Dreamcatcher music style was so unique and for sure their performance will make the audience throw their off guard Just like they did at Kcon LA. They deserved to be recognized and going bigger

To be honest it all tells a story yoohyeon is trapped and going into the girls dreams wanting them to come back and save her it's following the nightmare concept it starts with fly high then goes to chase me then good night and you and I then what it's that they all want yoohyeon back(the girl asleep on the bed) and they are trying to get to her but she's just a lucid dream she's so close but when they can almost touch her she's gone almost leading them back to her.
