Metallic Red and Gold - Cataphractii Terminators painted in one evening. This video is a step by step guide on how to achieve a similar paint job. I also talk about why setting a time limit when painting a miniature can result in a new tool in your hobby toolbox. Finally, I have no idea what happened to my hair in the opening shot but I can assure you it has not fallen off.

I landed here thanks to the joint Midwinter Minis podcast, and have no regrets at all. I pounced on this particular video as I am planning a Marine army colour scheme, and was about to try something similar with a chrome base, but the gold looks so much better!

Welcome to the channel! The "contrast paint over metallic" is a great trick". Warm tones over gold, cool tones over silver.

Fantastic video! That red looks great and I'm confident the battle between Ninjago, Dinosaurs, and Space Marines will be legendary. I agree with setting a time limit too, I make sure I don't go over 2hrs unless I'm invested in what I'm painting but I think 2hrs is perfect to prevent boredom because once that sets in the fun begins to fade fast Great video Alex

I just stumbled upon this video, and your channel, from a recommendation on the RU-vid homepage, and I've already subscribed after watching this masterpiece. The cinematography, the immaculate script and narration, the lesson to be learned by the end of the video- it's unlike any other piece of miniature painting content I've ever seen. Good luck to you, sir, and keep making stuff like this! It's amazing. I'll be binge-watching the rest of your videos now.

Hey guys!! I just want to push back a bit. If you're using rattlecans, I would still recommend you basecoat your mini's first. The rattlecans don't always adhere properly to bare plastic. The rattlecans also do go in and out of production, and have their formula's changed relatively often. So if you've found a colour you really like and expect to be working on the same army/project for more than a couple years, I would recommend you pick up maybe half a dozen cans and store them in a dark cupboard! Thanks for the vid though 52! Great work!

That is another good idea. It’s then possible to tint the armour in other ways as well. Like adding a blue wash to get more purple like shading 👍

My son is 6 and he started painting space marines because they look like robots (he even calls them space robots). But he wants to paint them by himself (he asks for help only for the eyes) and wants a squad to fight my chaos marines (evil space robots). So I painted a space marine along with him and it was my first "speed painted" mini (and my first non-chaos marine). Thanks for the great tutorial...and a beautiful video with superb narration.

A good place to start experimenting is silver for cool colours and gold for warm. But mainly try and think of a colour wheel and think of gold as yellow. What happens when you add yellow to blue or to green for example.

Fantastic work, they look gorgeous! I agree on the concept of pacing your painting to yourself. I think even an evening spent enjoying thinking about how to paint a model in front of you, idly twirling a paintbrush, is just as valid a pastime in the hobby as actually finishing something.
