Good lord what a thick tone. I really hope before they call it quits in the studio, they really let this man shine. Obviously, Metallica's bass players are all legendary, but in terms of sheer technical prowess, Rob is at the very top.
Jason and Rob are both great. Sadly neither of them, and seemingly even more so rob, have been allowed to really be creative and show off. Rob is an amazing bassist but he just seems so stiffled.
I don’t think Robert gets hate. I think he just doesn’t fit Metallica compared to Cliff and Jason. He’s too good for Metallica. Jason fit the band far better, but the rest of the band treated him like an abused wife.
@@kgunitkeese17 It's been 18 years, we can admit that he fits and makes them sound better. You're just used to Jason, that's why you're saying that. Metallica needed new blood and they found gold in Rob, he can play everything and has stage presence. And the backup vocals (to me personally) don't matter because James can do everything perfectly fine on his own.
@@mdnblues Not really because Jason joined the band before I was born. I didn’t pay much attention to Metallica until I was in my teens. I’ve listened to performances through videos of all three and Jason definitely was the perfect choice to fill Cliff’s shoes. As I said, Rob is too good and technical for Metallica. You do need those background vocals though, and they are deeply missed with Jason no longer with them.
Nah. He seems too good for Metallica. He is probably the most technically skilled bassist Metallica ever had but he looks too out of place with the rest of the guys. He’s a badass without trying. Lars, James and Kirk look they’re trying too hard to look like badasses but fall flat. Jason fit Metallica better but they treated him like an abused wife.
@@marcosbisso7136i think kirk is fine, he's even the only one who hasn't changed much of his look all these years so that doesn't seem like trying too hard to me lol. Lars doesn't even try at this point, he just looks like a rock dad lol.
Rob definitely "does NOT fit with this band". He is suffering in silence for a paycheck. He is "dumbing down" his potential. I was glad that he got the gig yet I always saw question marks around his joining metallica. Money is great I guess, can't blame him for that. If you saw and heard him in his other projects prior to this one, you might understand what I'm talking about.
Not only for the money, he was a fan of the band. It probably was his dream, play for Metallica. But yes, he is not that hardcore type of bassist, and his talent as musician is wasted there.
Rob stole the stage, not just a stage, a Metallica stage, period. That explain how awesome He is. Not just a great bass player, but entertaining as well. He got style that catch people attention, just like Flea did at RHCP.
rob not great? hes great because he has alot of experience fron different genres he played before joining metallica, just listen to his groove, he's gonna turn flea and cliff into breakfast!!!
My dad took me to this concert. He passed away the a week after we arrived back in New Zealand. It was his dream to see them live RIP Benny (1955/04/18 - 1999)
May the God rest in peace his soul...I know what you feel....I been in some kind of similar situation in 1998 in Bucharest, Romania...but he died before the concert with one month...in his memory I been on the concert with tears in my eye's..
What i like with robert is how he manage to have his own style while respecting the original composers of the riffs and recreating cliff and jasons tones. Amazing musician and he really seems like a nice dude 👌
@@subiesnacks8446 Jason might not have been the best bassist compared to Cliff or Rob, but he sure can play and has some amazing vocals. Just hear creeping death live...
Robert Trujillo is a fucking MONSTER on a bass !!!!! never seen 1 with such presence! I would have to say he is the best and most entertaining bass player EVER !!!! THIS is also possibly the best live metallica song ive ever seen. its amazing.
+Daniel Neuhaus Steven Harris is the beast of gallooping, he made maiden become "maiden", his gallooping rhytm is kick ass though. But robert's hand is better on the bass guitar.
+Leo Gagnone no sir, there are no such a thing like that.. john myung is better than him in metal genre.. but dont get me wrong.. the iron maiden will be really flat without steve's bass..
giannhs markoylakhs Oh yeah... don't get me wrong Cliff is up there (no pun intended still too soon). But, Cliff's sound was muddy to people that live music, Rob has more of a clearer sound. R.I.P. Cliff.
zepknot Well, I am not a huge fan of Metallica, but they, and a few other bands revolutionized Trash Metal. But as I said, other bands have their fingers in this too.
zepknot Sorry my brain is going haywire because of my exams. Let me rephrase that. Calling Metallica legends isn't wrong. They are one of the bands that revolutionized Trash Metal.
Nick Belanger can you fit this in your head? Lars was considered one of the best heavy metal drummers when the song ONE was promoted on Mtv videos and Headbangers ball. Of course everything gets played out and people have their opinion. All I know is that after almost 35 years of Metallica, Metallica is still around. Yeah they're not the same. Kirk gets the same whah whah playing critic, Lars his drumming, But when I was 13 in 1984 I was amazed when I first hear Hit the Lights, The Four Horseman, ...pulling teeth, Metalmilitia. I'd grew up with classic rock, cus my older brother is 10 years older than me. Funny but there was no other band that sounded like Metallica. Now most music has no flavor or have not yet revolutionized anything. Any classic metal band did. That I am proud of!! Who ever respects history will agree with me. I have respect to Lars, Kirk, Page and above all Iommi. To me the Godfather of Metal along with Lemmi. Respect
It comes from ignorance period! It's like a wave of people expressing the same just to agree with one an other. I don't know like a must say or some that became cultural, cus all they say about Kirk or Lars is the same. You have to be on the time when the music was fresh. Thennnn you get to judge. Again, what in music is done nowadays that amaze us? Anybody for instance in RU-vid could be better than Kirk on the guitar or a better drummer than Lars. That's amazing YES. If you reverse everything, they wanted to play as good as Kirk or Lars!! Name any artist and ask them who were their influence in music, and they'll have at least one or two names in mind. It's pure ignorance on people my friend. Cheers
1:45 here we watch the cave man's reaction to when he discovered fire, notice his odd crab walk, that's very common in the cave men society. Watch how he brings the guitarist into his crab walk, and quickly the guitarist loose interest, for they know it is a trap
@@robgodden6736 it shows his enthusiasm and feel for the music being played which is the next step in good bass and guitar playing it brings you from a great guitarist/bassist to an excellent one
that intro was a nice mixup. i think robs youngness kinda brings more life into the sober metallica. but newstead was straight fucking metal to the bone badass
