Metallica and Lou Reed perform "Sweet Jane" at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 25th Anniversary shows Looking for more Induction Ceremony memories from Lou Reed? Visit his official Hall of Fame online bio: rockhall.com/in...
The lowered main riff, the recurring guitar solo, Lars randomly syncopating stuff and even Reed's improvised vocal melodies, this version is stupid good. Masterpiece.
In this video, they all seem to respect Lou very much, & be excited to play with him, that's 4Sure!! I Love both Metallica & Lou Reed - & this performance was like a 1 take perfect shot, splitting the arrow ALREADY in the bullseye.
If you look closely at the video it is very clear that all the folks In Metallica really respect Lou. You see all of them looking to Lou and smiling. Great tribute.
Watch how respectful James is by waiting on Lou to finish his verses which he’s uniquely changing sporadically in his usual bad ass fashion. He never tried to show him up. Class act!
these talented musicians just wanted to have the opportunity to play with this guy on stage, for an educated audience that was familiar with both of them. it was pleasing to see and hear a superior hard edge rock band assist lou return to his early days one last time.. to the negative comments---- "if you write books nobody reads you"
@@mrpepper836 The legend is Velvet Underground's first album didn't sell very well - barely at all - and the saying is every one who bought the first pressings started their own bands. Therefore they call it the most influental rock album of all time. Especially the punk rock movement were inspired by The Velvet Underground. I don't like everyone of Lou Reed's solo album, but the Velvet Underground are absolute legends.
Great version of Sweet Jane! Both Lou Reed & Metallica at the top of their game. Please, if you don't understand Rock n' Roll and the importance of the Velvet underground on contemporary music, don't make any comment. We don't need you around anyhow.
I agree with THAT 100%. Good music is good music, & if you play it for your kids, neices/nephews (& their friends) to hear, they will feel that groove, & this song can go on at least another 80 years!! Long after I'M gone anyways - LOL!!
I dig it...back to roots with Metallica...the metal before Metallica...and Lou Reed's blues rock. All the haters...when Lou Reed tells you to play a song with him, you f'n DO IT!!!
I became a fan of Metallica in 86, as a friend jammed MoP via casette tape as we staked his half pipe. No better song to skate to. If any of you guys here knew anything about Cliff Burton you'd know he was a fan of bands you wouldn't think he nor Metallic would be into. REM, Simon & Garfunkel and yes Lou Reed! Take this for what it is - Metallic jamming with a friend. Musical differences aside, its about celebrating music and friends.
This is LOU REED, one of the aleternate rock inventors...!!!! If you like ANT trype rock...you got to love this guy... Credit to Metallica for seeing that!!!!
Just because something is done with good intent doesnt mean it has to be good. Blindly liking an album just because it has a great musician on it is idiotic. It doesnt matter whether Lou Reed or mfing Fred Durst was on the album, you should judge it the same way.
@@Dead80Head 😄😃😅 .. exactly .. by miles 👍👍👍... one of most influencial musicians of the last 50yrs ... im 60 and seen lou and have most his records ... people that rubbish him or very small minded .... lot of music today was because of the Velvet Underground .. even though he sorta got fired from his own group .. the master of beautiful dark street lyrics .. a great lyrical story teller ....
@@mikes6970 That's not what the OP meant. They're well aware their place in the annals of music is below Lou. But at the time Lou Reed was not doing anything. Maybe kinda stagnant. Hell maybe he was simply tired(those days from all that partying had to have taken their toll lol). They were just honoring a man they greatly admired and providing a huge stage for him to once again showcase whatever he had left. The fans loved it. Well, the educated ones anyway.
This is literally the reason we Metallica fans have the album with Lou Reed. Lars said to Lou after this happened "Hey give me a call sometime and we'll see about doing an album" three weeks later.... Lou said to him in the phone call "So about that album you were talking about the other day...." and the rest is history!
@@boydbonno glad to hear that .. i brought all his albums new ... love rock n roll animal ... and coney island baby is a favourite too .. even my neighbours get to listen to rock n roll animal ... 😂😃 ...
@@mikes6970 I got Rock & Roll Animal here on vinyl as well, such a good album. Still discovering his music though, recently discovered ‘Crazy Feeling’ and ‘New Sensations’. What a magnificent musician he was
@@boydbonno new york is another great l0 .. r n r animal , coney island baby , transformer and new york , plus couple his late live lps are all must haves for your collection .... glad you younger fellas are discovering his great music ... rock n roll animal is a great lp to start your lou collection with ... the intro for sweet jane was written bu hunter and wagner for that tour only .. they started the concerts with that intro ... prob one best intros in music history ....
stop saying Lou sucks, obviously Metallica understands the contribution that Lou has made to all music in general. And of course his voice isn't what it used to be but he is none the less a great musician. I can play all of Lou's stuff, but never in hell could i write any of it.
I just finished an interview/podcast with James and the lady question was all about this. I don’t know much about Lou Reed, but now I’m interested and intrigued
I always, always loved Sweet Jane. But honestly haven't heard a lot of good live versions by Lou. Now, Im not into Metallica really, but this just sounds cool. I somehow think Lars' helpless drumming, alongside the bands distorted instruments...it sounds badass, man!
HOW THE FUCK CAN BE SO MUCH PEOPLE DON'T LIKE THIS!?!?!?!?!?!?! is MetallicA......FUCK OFF....and is Lou Reed!!!!! this is a great song and with MetallicA sounds fucking awesome!!!! I hate the people who say that Metallica makes a mistake with albums like Load or Reload...... They are humans and can like other things..... this live is a perfect example. LONG LIVE TO METALLICAAAAA!!!!! METAL UP YOUR US!!!!!
The best thing about this show is that a Metal Band like Metallica honors Lou Reed by playing "Sweet Jane" together with him, even though they cant really get the groove of the "original" Sweet Jane on the Live Album from the 70s. Anyway what I really like about Metallica: They play music they would like to play no matter if their Metal-Fans like it or not.Thank you Metallica
If there was ever a perfect statement that’s it. MetallicA has always tried to help the bands and performers that influenced them. Some people take offense without realizing they are actually putting money in pockets of their hero’s.
I don’t how this all came together but I think Lou Reed is cooler than all of Metallica combined. And Kirk ripping the same lick five times in a row didn’t do it for me. 😂
My hats off to meticallica for the performance was an explanatory jester towards a GOD of Rock whom brought u our metal GOD'S as well...groovy baby!!!!!🌴😎✌
"No one is supposed to be able to do a thing like that and survive" (Lou Reed statement about "Metal Machine Music" 1975) Well he´s done it again with "Lulu" 2011 .-)
I could listen to them jam this for fucking hours. Wish they had gone all out a done a few proper live concerts together. A night a Metallica, VU and Lulu would have been one of the best concerts ever imaginable.
calm down people stop hating none of you have heard any of the new songs but you'll be surprised when the album comes out! they said is unlike none of them has done before it comes out november 1st and metallica is making another 100% metallica album on 2012 so calm down people this may be good lets just wait and stop the hating!
Fuckin Beautiful, open & free, and actually quite daring in some respects,be willing to experiment & find that sonic connection,Lou is a fuckin Legend & James and the boys sound incredible,in fact Kirk's leads give this gem a nice sonic boost,Tip my hat to Metallica for honoring Reed & V U 's legacy...
