Recorded Live at Day On The Green at Oakland Stadium, Oakland, CA on August 31st, 1985 James Hetfield - vocals, rhythm guitar Kirk Hammett - lead guitar Lars Ulrich - drums Cliff Burton - bass guitar
Sorry but i only get goosebumps on Jason singing and roaring.. He was more metal than cliff and whole metallica its just a fact.. Yeah RIP legend Cliff but Jason fits more to metallica than cliff that like PERIOD. Without Jason their songs woukd sound 40% weaker. With Jason everything is 40% MORE BRUTAL.
Fucking impressive, James sounds exactly like he did on the record, Kirks backing vocals sounds like an angry magpie, cliff's backing vocals sounds like they were sang/growled out by the devil himself and Lars was... Actually great!
Cliff's sister Connie had talked about part of the reason Cliff drank so much was to dull the pain he was feeling in his neck. Kind of like what pro wrestlers would do in the 70s & 80s. He couldn't help but bang to the music.
actually only kill em all and ride the lightning were ready before release and a couple of songs on master of puppets including dispossable heroes and lepper messiah, while the rest were NOT written, until they went in the studio to write them.
Tony Cantrell yea man, the day on the green performance of for whom the bell tolls is also really clear. Another great one is the metal hammer festival from '85.
I was there that day!!!! Metallica was the highlight of the day!! I remember everyone tripping off of cliffs bass solo!! They killed it at day on the green!! The mid 80s was a wild time! And Metallica were kings of thrash metal !!!!!!
+murphyjones100 hey Murphy!!! Yeah!! It was a special time because Metallica were not yet huge! They were still hungry and had the eye of the tiger!!! Their sound was good but being and outside gig, not as loud as we wanted it to be! People were tripping when cliff did his bass solo!!! Scorpions headlined that show so there were more fans for them and ratt, also yngve malmsteen was the opener! Metallica made their mark that day!!! And the rest is history!!
+murphyjones100 yeah!!! Metallica were on fire at that time!!! The sound was great!! Everyone was tripping when cliff did his bass solo!!! What a time it was!! I miss that era of Metallica!!
I seen the puppets tour in April 1986... after Cliff passed away, the band and the music was never the same. It's amazing how much chemistry he had in the writing and the sound in that band.
@DerpySquirtleBoi why are you here then? And if you're a fan of Metallica then you're just a hugeass hypocrite because you're saying metallica fans, unless you're a fan of megadeth, which is also fine, but still a lot more irony in the latter.
How sad that Cliff Burton would be dead 13 months after this performance. Truly one of the greatest bass players of all time. If he only would have lost that card draw. Then we wouldn't have had Kirk. When it's your time, it's your time. R.I.P.
Day On The Green is easily my favorite live of Metallica, all of the songs in this live are just such good songs of Metallica's 2nd (second) album "Ride The Light", my favorite part of this live is James Hetfield's voice and the presence of Clifford Lee Burton (Cliff Burton). Long live Metallica 🤘👍
I was jamming in a rock band in Malaysia; the intensity level went up 2x when I ripped into this song and the other guys were smiling from ear to ear. Thanks James, Kirk, Cliff, and Lars for creating musical magic that's been sending shock waves around the world. RIP, Cliff.
Even though the footage for this concert has an extremely strange mix, the the overall bass/low end is gone, James’s guitar has no distortion. I just keep coming back because this has to be one of James’s best LIVE vocals, he sounds so intense, makes me wish I was there, and the head banging, I feel the excitement through the video. Their energy here cannot be repeated
Saw Metallica first east coast show at the Paramount in Staten island Ny they warmed up for Venom I think it was K.Hammett firsth live show they got rid of Mustaine a week earlier I could be wrong any Venom pyrotechnics blew the stage up we left we see Metallica loading there own equipment we ask if we can help then Cliff Burton comes out and yells who got the weed I said I only got regular weed he said I don't give a shit light that shit there we were getting high with Cliff Burton and helping them load their vehicle I remember Kirk H being so gracious he gave us their demo and a address to write to he wrote the address on the tape which I lost over the years highlight of my life thanks 4 letting me share
Still my favorite rendition of creeping death just seems so awesome that it's somewhat sped up and it's great, also cliff is fucking awesome here, you can tell he loved what he did and definitely made a lasting impression on one of the greatest metal bands ever, but that's enough from me as James puts it,"FUCKING RIDE THE LIGHTNING",is next so ha ha!
I thought i would play along with the guitar but playing along with this live recording is a whole new level of downpicking skill, super sayan level 300 🤘⚡️🎸🔥
🤟🏽🎛🖤Imagine Cliff & Randy Rhoads jamming.🎙RIP Rockin In Paradise🎸🎚🤘🏽 I listened to this whole day, grew up 3miles from Coliseum, heard many shows from home, back when they did the outdoor gigs. Like a dream to reminisce! Born '71. Back in my hometown now... ...& still living in OAKLAND, CALI!
Cliff making Lars sound like the best drummer since sliced bread, as a musician like CLIFF he wasn't trying to stand out alone that wouldn't of made since for Creeping Death that song is more drum and melody and Cliff gave Lars a boost in the heaviness threw out the song. That's how good a true musician is!
Did you know that if Cliff had not died, Lars wouldn’t be in the band anymore? James planned to kick Lars out right after the Sweden tour but The bus incident happened and James didn’t want to lose another member... History lesson of the day.
I seen them twice both times with the legend MR. CLIFF BURTON. And let me be honest both times were the most intense HARD FUCKIN CORE you must think it was. Absolutely insane the times I grew up in.
Good chit. And to think 10 yrs earlier it was the real skynyrd and frampton playing those day on the green shows in the 70s. Being cliff was a huge skynyrd fan I bet he knew that.
its because the sound we hear is taken directly from the audio interface. sometimes (and I noticed this in the solos the most) the sound is not fattened to is max .... just try plugging in headphones into an amp... listen to it and compare it to what you hear from the speaker... it will sound similiar to this. chain is: guitar - tube screamer (only kirk in 1985) - amp - box = sound what we hear is: guitar - tube screamer - amp - Audio Interface.... so one important part (box with speakers) is missing in the recorded audio chain...
