I think Lars has always been a great drummer, but it seems to me after watching the tour last year and watching the tour this year that he has gotten much more versatile and seems to have improved in his stamina and ability to play songs more accurately to the way they were recorded for lack of better words
@@Xander-cm5bg completely agree. I think during the pandemic he got out of shape a little bit. He still was playing good but after the last tour he got in shape and now he's killing it. I wasn't that impressed last tour. He was doing okay but now wow back to his usual self
I think he's practising a lot more nowadays. If I recall correctly, he spent a good portion of the 2000s not practising. Plus I think the band might be playing to a click since the pandemic, since their timing has been fairly impeccable
@@shanehalliwell9622 I hope he's practicing more, but i'm not sure about the click thing. I think they still sound a bit off here and there, but they might be using a count-in for the tape intros like 72 seasons, wherever i may roam etc.
It was very weired hearing the sound of the real drum set vs the rest over PA. I wonder what it sounds like in Lars' in ear system. Through the show James always keeps looking for Lars for picking up and ending the songs. Anybody know what the device is, Lars has under his seat? Is that some kind of "butt kicker" like what's being used in sim racing? Also never realized before what a tiny guy Lars actually is. Would be great to see him next to Angus for comparison. Lars has been super kind and attentive to the fans through both concerts.
Exactly. It’s a buttkicker so you can feel the low end. I have one myself. Regarding in ear mix nobody knows except for Lars what he hears. But he‘s using softwraps so isolation is not the best. Also I think he’s using in ears with ambient hole. So he probably hears the acoustic sound from the drums quite loud. So basically only thing you need in the monitor mix will be guitars and vocals and kickdrum. Btw you can see Lars tell the monitor engineer to turn up guitars at the end of the song.
@@jd0879 yeh sorry, kind of goes without saying they have them self in their monitors also though lol. Amazing to think James and Lars have played (almost) every Metallica gig but have never heard Kirk. Probably don’t even know who Rob is, just think Jason looks a bit different now or something 😂
.... there is nearly only Drums-Sound ! But it´s interesting, you can hear the real natural Drumsound, not the produced Sound out of the PA. And I must say, this sound is not so far away from the drumsound in my private hobby-musicroom at home.
in person they heard everything well, and a little more drums as they are able to hear the direct sound coming from the actual drums. But for smartphones, the direct drums' sound is a lot more clear than the one coming from PAs, so it tries to keep the clear signal the most (aka the direct sound coming from the drums) :)
I’ve never been a huge fan of Lars, but I admire his work from 83’ Until 92’, after that… 😅 The only thing is, he after that golden period never practice to improve himself and that’s a shame. Anyway, they still rock as a band!
