1.6 million people. Germany gathered 3 million troops alongside a 2000 kilometre Eastern front. Half that number turned up for a Metallica concert in one single location. Unbelievable! I can’t get over that number. Best concert ever!

I came back to this video because I was telling my bf how if I had a time travel machine I would go on all the epic concerts I missed because I wasn’t born yet. So ofcourse I went along and showed him this toplister. I’ve been to a Metallica concert tho but imagine that possibility of time travel. If i had to pick one constant subject in my time travel it would be music. Going to a place you know the best musicians came from, visiting Kingston in the rocksteady times or Seattle in the 80s or 90s. Dreamy

This was shortly after the Soviet Union collapsed. Hetfield said the army personal was all serious and standing still for about the first 3-4 songs. After that they started to throw off their hats and unbottoned their uniforms and just started enjoying the concert. hahahah

Imagine living your entire life under an oppressive communist regime, where freedom of expression and individuality was all but stomped out with intimidation and violence...and then all of a sudden being free to do all of that and at a Metallica concert, your first rock concert ever, with 1M other people in the same situation. The energy in that crowd could power a small country!

The reason is crazier, people were getting so overheated because of the absolute mass and the only way they could keep the crowd cooled off was by having helicopters fly by close so the draft from the blades would blow over them.

Can you just imagine how incredible this must have been from Metallica's perspective? Like, LOOK HOW MANY FUCKING PEOPLE THERE ARE! That would have been unreal knowing they were all there for YOU, and see them rocking so hard to the music YOU'RE playing.
