That intro, I always thought James was into classical chords but it's crazy cuz like you said they are root notes but the variations is what gives it that ballroom war sound
It still blows my mind that this song was released in 1984. Like, what other band back then had riffs this heavy with a tone this heavy? It was unprecedented.
Wow dude. I wanted to learn this the right way for 30 years and I couldn’t figure it out nor could any book or website. Thanks and you are the best 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Thank you so much I've looked for a good guitar lesson and this is by far the best one. That riff before the verse... Man it's so difficult even slowly hahaha
Big respects from Turkey. Your Metallica lesson series is the reason i subscribed your channel. Great and rare work in here. Can’t wait for the Master of Puppets album songs.
감사합니다. It was a performance that I wanted to learn very much, but thank you for teaching me so well. It was a great help and a perfect lesson. Thank you.
That riff they play between the first and second verse (E: 0-3-5-0-0), is somethng I've never learned how to play. Thank you for cleaing it up for me. I've paylayed for 26 years and struggled iwth this one for years.

It's almost like every Metallica song when picking or slower is written out of that riff! The mother riff! I must learn that. Hit the lights, fight fire with fire and battery
@@TimHolman mannnn yeah! It's weird how fade to black fits in there with those riffs. I'm a tremolo fan but your videos are helping me soo much! Thanks man sincerely
Brilliant love your channel, ive spent yrs trying to learn metallica songs. I hope you have a tribute band, thanks for all the hard work you've put into making these vids 🥵
Hi Tim!!! Don't forget to post the tabs and GP for "Writing On The Wall" on your website! Thanks !!!...and grateful for one more spectacular lesson today!!!
Thanks man! I haven't forgotten about The Writing On The Wall. Just been working on a few other things. Finally getting back at it after a few weeks away. Thanks for watching! 🎸🔥🍻
The bar chords murder my wrist... but I've found my own modifications to play the first part and still sound good using campfire chords and it still sounds great😊
Hey Tim, I'm really happy that I found your channel man, there are really cool lessons there, and its really helpful channel 😀 I wish if you could make a lesson for Metallica, suicide and redemption it's really a cool one Cheers Tim🤘
Thank you very much! I was planning to release Metallica tutorials in album order but I might start skipping around a bit and get to some of their newer stuff. Thanks for the suggestion! 🤘🍻🎸
Guten Abend, danke für das tolle Video 👍🔔wünschen dir eine schöne Woche und noch eine besinnliche Adventszeit ⛄🎄bleib gesund, see you later. Liebe Grüße Siggi und Marianne ⛄❤
sir i am yr fan u just play great pl i want to know which amp u using in this video how u get this metal sound i want to know i am from India can i buy orange crush 20 watt amp now i have mustang 20 watt amp which does not give metal crunch sound pl suggest amp and effect thanks
Hi Mukesh, thanks for watching! I am using a plug in for this tone. It's the BlackSun amp by Audio Assault. When I do mic up an amp I use my Marshall JVM. The Orange would definitely be a nicer amp for this style than the Mustang. It will give you some decent distortion that I think you'd be happy with. There are so many awesome practice amps now though. Have you considered an amp modelling practice amp? Just download tones that you love and away you go. Very versatile and good for multiple genres. I hope you find what you're looking for. 🤘🔥🎸
Plzz change your way of teaching solos...you really bombard all notes at once...nd playing a single note doesn't make any rhythm in mind...divide your solos into smaller pieces
Thanks for leaving feedback. It's always appreciated. Can I ask how much of the video you watched? I never explain more than a measure or two before I play it slowly and in context so that each lick is understandable. You would like even smaller sections than that? Perhaps organizing it more like Lick 1, Lick 2, etc and labeling them in the video chapters would help? If the solo is really making no sense I would suggest listening to the original recording over and over until it's in your ears. Listen to it 100 times or even more if necessary. Nothing replaces deep and repetitive listening. Once again, thanks for the comment. I'm grateful for all feedback as I constantly try to improve my videos and will think about your suggestion. You rock! 🤘🎸
@@TimHolman Oh my dear friend! I did not mean anything wrong here...and I really don't have any wrong intention here....I know how much effort you put in your videos for teaching us in best way possible from your side...I think I could not deliver my words properly...I just wanted to say you that while you explain any lick say lick 3 (31:48-32:52)...in most of your videos while teaching licks you generally play single notes involved in licks and go on playing while teaching...so it would be better if you further divide your licks into sub parts...so that one can understand the pattern and rhythm involved in licks... just keep playing single notes while teaching any lick does not make any rhythm in mind and mind is not able to catch that lick properly and makes it harder to memorize and also really time consuming...for eg: please have a look at (31:48-32:52) for lick 3.....keep posting such wonderful tutorials!! Best wishes! 👍🎸
Ah yes, I agree that some of the longer licks can get a bit cumbersome and confusing when I break down every note. Do you think I'm breaking it down too far? Maybe I should just give a quick rundown of what's going on then play the whole lick slowly. I will think about how I can present them a bit better. Is the rhythm notated in the tab helpful or not? If you would ever like a private lesson or two you can always email me at timholmanmusic@gmail.com to discuss. Thanks again and talk soon! Edit: I've been thinking and yes, you are right. All I have to do is split the longer licks up. I will do this from now on. Thanks!
@@TimHolman yes,the tabs you provide are really helpful my friend...and I m really glad that you understood my query that what I really meant to say...so thanks for that. I would surely contact you through your provided email whenever I would need in future for upskilling my guitar skills under your guidance. Cheers mate!
