1:01 right here is why Kirk is great at his craft. He never stops trying to learn more about his instrument and improve; no matter how good he is. It's the humility at work that never lets him think he's the shit.
Way too many people look at that and think, "Kirk, what a noob, he can't even figure that riff out . . ." He's not figuring out how to play it. He's figuring out the root music theory behind why that riffs sounds so good. Once he figures out the root notes/chords of that progression, it informs him of the playbook he needs to work within. Once he knows the musical playbook, he can start doing Kirk Hammet shit.

@@arthurdisheartenment you are absolutely correct. James WRITES just about ALL of the music. I didnt say that Lars knows how to WRITE music....I said he knows music and knows how to MAKE it. There is a difference
You should listen to the And Justice for All riff tapes. James asks Jason to play the Blackened opening riff slowly.. The riff originated from Jason's riff on the bass..
@@billbored8277 No, they didn't. The razzed him, and could have treated him better early on, but by his own words, Jason was treated pretty well, and paid like an equal. And he has multiple writing credits on Metallica songs.
Death Magnetic is a killer album! You should check out Metallica's back catalog, Kill 'em All, Ride The Lightning, Master of Puppets, and ...And Justice For All. The music that made them masters!!
We all know that... everybody knows that without Lars, Metallica wouldn't be the giant it is today. It's the live playing that sometimes it is cringe worthy!
Man, it's just so weird, when i watch those making death magnetic movies i'm like "Wow, EPIC riff there" "GREAT job James" "wow awesome solo there" "Wow AWESOME bass there" but when i listened whole Death Magnetic many times before and never felt like this.
John Pantano It's actually a spanish guitar meant for flamenco, not sure if it would be classified as acoustic, in essence it is but it's different, similar to how a classical guitar is an acoustic guitar but isn't called that.
Andromeda it’s still acoustic. Acoustic refers to the fact that it is built with acoustics sort of like natural amplification. Same as how a grand and a baby grand and an upright piano are all considered acoustic pianos even though they aren’t the exact same instrument
Lars is a genius, amazing song arranger and drummer. He lives for his music and is there every step of the way till it’s done . Lars is a strong piece in Metallica and very much so needed. No one could replace him and I love the dude 🍺 and don’t forget without him they would have stopped and faded away after Cliff died. R.I.P. Cliff we love you 🤙🤘🍻
"Well the technique is just"... * proceeds to make everyone seizure with his god like presence, as robs eyes start to turn black and he starts breathing fire *
This is my favorite song on the album and actually is in my top Metallica songs ever just because of the intensity of the song it totally draws you in and then fucking punches you in the face.
Pretty sure it's always been that way. James and Lars, and I, imagine Rob since he's the other half of that part of the band, flesh out the songs and Kirk comes in later and does his stuff.
Metallica is growing and evolving and getting better with every album in every way .. playing , songwriting. Maturity is where it's at and Metallica is showing lots of it! This is a very cool time period for Tallica!
Its not a simple album even on drums. And lars hits like a truck. So yeah if you want the same imput as sound its very exhausting with the big sound he has
Dude that section at the opening is fucking sick. I wish they had been able to mix some more of that in. That blew my mind. These guys still have it man.
This was the first song on Death magnetic I really loved ! I will never forget day one release of this album, I waited outside my local record store to get my copy with Discman in hand ready to go! But yeah this song was the moment I went " THERE BACK !!!!"
watching Metallica create is incredible....magical....chemistry....music.... that's Metallica.......you can have a good time and create great Music..I know....!!!!!! thanks for posting
I'm really glad that they made it "We'll hunt you down without mercy." insted of "take your soul". This is my favorite song of my favorite band, i fuckin' love it!
I love these videos. Seeing how a song comes to be, in the beginning hearing the notes but not fully formed. The molding the notes and lyrics added. Then seeing the final product. So interesting and fascinating.
When I first saw the clip of Rob with the acoustic, I imagined the intro coming from the acoustic and then James joining in with the heavy riff ... that would've been so frickin awesome love the riff at 1:12 ... James sound is so heavy ... and the pickslide at 1:38 and when he breaks back into the riff \m/
am loving metallica even more after seeing all these behind-the-scenes videos of them...they're just so cool...james n kirk my fav, amazingly calm n collected so not that all deathly-metal-loves-blood-atheist image usual ppl like to associate most metal rock bands with..
Fuck man, imagine being in Metallica. The definition of an INSTITUTION. Warehouses, studios, rehearsal spaces and mansions all to their name. It must be living in paradise. And guess what? They fuckingggg deserve it!!👏🏽💪🏽
