Lars speaks a language only James can understand. That duo is just really good at trusting and understanding each other in the creative process. It seems so easy but it is very difficult for someone to just keep throwing riffs and breaks and bridges while trusting that the drummer is starting to piece it together in his mind.

James is an endless pit of riffs and Lars is a master of putting them in place. So amazing to see them construct a song.

"A lot of guh guh guh guh.....I like guh guh guh guh" It's a pleasure to watch the riff factory at work.

Lars only ate once in a 9 minute video. I'm impressed.

I've come to truly respect Lars for his compositional skills, People rag on him for not "writing" music, and 'humming', and then there's the drummer jokes, but He's got serious skills as a song composer, and that in itself is an art. if you dont have good composition, the notes themselves are flat, and will always fall short. Metallica is, was and always will be the sum of ALL its parts. Best fkn band ever.

I love when Lars is trying to pump the wah for Kirk and he finds how delicate that action is to do in tempo, and that's not even while you are actually playing! Kirk just moves closer to him as if to say "see? it IS hard what I do for you guys!!" :)

"Soldier Boy, Made Of Clay, Now An Empty Shell" ...He wanted to do something very similar from Disposable when it came to the doodly for "Light It Up! Ah, Light It Up. Another Hit Erases All The Pain". So pretty much, it's Disposable Part 2 Haha. Both songs are great in their own way though! 🤘

James and Lars have a secret language and way of communicating and it's fascinating to watch these legends put it all together.

wanna be in a band? this is what it is. long hours practicing the same song getting it perfect, could be weeks before you finish one song, and after you complete all the songs you have to practice all of them and get good at playing them as a band. lots of hard work. much respect to rock bands. unlike pop artists who buy their songs. so stupid.

This was a great insight into their process, and luckily it’s a great song, not just some filler. I had always wondered how Lars contributed to the songwriting without playing a melodic instrument. He’s just effective at communicating what he hears in his head and James trusts his input. They’ve sustained their entire career on that partnership. The Lennon-McCartney of metal.

This is my favorite song on this album.

Even Hetfield gets a sore hand from all that down picking. He has an amazing right hand for guitar. Other mortals would have physical ailments, but the guy just gets in shape.

I love watching how these come together, and you can see the difference from early in the song's development to the fine tuning late.

No matter how many new and exciting bands or talent come around Metallica will always be my favorite band of all time. The depth these guys go through to create each and every masterpiece is a gift to us the fans. Glad they record everything!

Why am I not surprised this is how they put a song together. It's more than likely how they've always done it but instead of a garage, they're in their own studio. They may be older and not thrash anymore but damn if they still can't put out some really good stuff. Say what you want about Lars but dude has just got a talent for arranging different pieces into into a finished product. They were my band at 14 years old and they still are at 50. People told me I'd outgrow this but they got me this far, might as well ride this out till the end.

Death Magnetic was a step in the right direction. Hardwired is amazing with the mixture of the albums they had. It felt Black,Justice,Kill, Load in many songs and I loved it. I still don't like the clean tone, I wish they went back to justice tone or something similar. I hope their next album is in the next 3 years not another 8

I was in awe when I heard that the songs on Hardwired were based mostly on Hetfield's riffs... like Kirk lost his iPhone which consists of riffs that was supposed to be part of his contribution for Hardwired... and I think Rob has one song which he helped write. James is so talented, even at his age he's still able to produce incredible songs.. no shortage of ideas.. like wtf! Me knowing Metallica, their songs have a lot of sections and they don't just settle for verse, chorus, verse type of arrangements. Each song has insane dynamics and riff sections. Like quality of the arrangements man. I know Lars is very dedicated and quite good with the arrangements and building sections. But let's be honest here; without James, there's nothing to build from.. the riffs are the foundation of the songs.

It's like kids having fun, so perfect. Much love from Portugal!

I love seeing how these guys know what sells and what doesn't. To create art that resonates til the end of time is very interesting. Id love to know how they all view creation and how it evolved from a young age until now, since that's essentially the motor of their monster.
