As others have pointed out: it's a cover. If a cover tries to imitate like the original, it's usually just a worse version of the same song (there are very, very few exceptions). A good cover manages to adapt the material and transform it in some way into a new direction or style... just create a different experience with some of the main ingredients. I would argue that Metallica managed to do just that here. In fact, I think they did just fine in all of their BridgeSchool Benefit covers, even covering their own songs without making them into lesser versions: (e.g.: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9x61w1c5aBc.html).

No no no, the first "pour" in the chorus should be over a major chord, (c# if I'm not wrong). That's the twist! Modal interchange. It's the song, and he changed it. I'm so mad! :D

It's a great song and a decent cover. Metallica could do a lot better if he had multiple takes and a studio for a day.

Yeah the only think lacking in it for me was the backing vocals were not up to snuff on that day. Give them some time and like all records released it will be a good as you get experience that has been polished. This was live so it was ok.

As a Garbage fan i have to disagree. I think they made it their own and paid their dues. The backing vocals are lacking a bit but other than that its ok i think.
