Ranking and discussing all 11 studio albums excluding Garage Inc. and LuLu. These albums for the most part are all great and fun to listen too. It was a real treat to listen to all these in order and really pay attention to just how fun, diverse and well-written these albums are.
Please share your rankings in the comments or we can discuss them in the andy_Havok or HavoKast live streams on Twitch. Either way this is of course just my opinion and it was intended for fun from fan to fan of the series!

The only metallica I listen to on a regular basis are the first four albums. The sound changed so much after that. I dont really care much for their discography after justice. Not that its bad music, I just enjoy their early works so much more. The later albums just lack some kind of raw energy, idk hard to point out.

oh for sure. It's almost like 3 different bands wrote the music. It in a strange way mimics the 3 different bassists but also 3 distinct eras in producer and production. The band has always changed their sound and style album to album with more drastic changes here and there. Those first 4 albums are legendary!

@@HavoKast outside of the last track and lux Æterna and the rest of the singles. I found 72 seasons very bland. St. anger's Fischer price drum kit sound is too much for me to look past. And being a guitarist there's no surprise all the riftastic albums are at the top of the list 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Load and re-load are honestly not as bad as what people thought at the time. They very much are like wine. They've gotten better with age

@@ieuanwilding5993 yeah I can totally understand that for sure. I knew they wrote pretty well but honestly after really listening I was blown away at the subtleties and talent it takes to play and write those riffs. St. Anger was like the most passionate album and the worst executed at the same time. I feel like it would have been pretty high up if it wasn't such a sonic misstep. Load and Re-Load def have some good stuff but it is very different for sure so I can understand why there is such a divide. I think its honestly more impressive being able to be so well-know and successful for succeeding in several genres.

1.) Ride the lightning 2.) Master of puppets 3.) black album 4.) Kill em all 5.) Load 6.) Re-load 7.) And justice for all 8.) Hardwired to self destruct 9.) Death Magnetic 10.) 72 seasons 11.) St. Anger The bottom 2 are interchangable

Thank you for the list! I'm always amazed going back to these how much the band can change the sound but the riff writing seems to be so strong in places still. Not a ton of bands can do it like them!

@@HavoKast agreed. I just think Kirk has raped the pentatonic scale so much now that he lacks the imagination for his solos. Lars is limited to what he can do now but I'd be fucking chuffed if I could play drums at that level at his age
@HavoKast
@HavoKast 3 дня назад
@@ieuanwilding5993 You nailed it and yeah I can barely play a beginner 4/4 on the drums lol. Also im not sure how it really is but the band also just seems like they are having tons of fun these days. Most bands have that intensity and force when they are younger but there is something pretty cool about a band just coming out and having a damn good time after so many years. Thank you for the comments btw, love chatting about this stuff!

@@HavoKast and that's what is important at this stage in their career. And after all the turmoil and inner tensions that the band has gone through over the years it is nice to see them at peace and a united force! As much as the newer albums don't hit the same with me I'm always pumped when a new album comes out 🙂 A part of me though wants to see what James could write with a more technically gifted drummer even if it's just for one album. Even at his age I would still say and happily die on this hill that papa het is still the best rhythm guitarist on the planet
@HavoKast
@HavoKast 3 дня назад
@@ieuanwilding5993 hell yeah for sure I wanna def see them enjoy and have the best time! I haven't been super into a lot of newer music in general so anything Maiden, Megadeth, Metallica always gets me going lol. I would love to see what James could do as well he is without a doubt in my mind the best rhythm guitarist. You can see it through multiple styles, genres and things hes written for sure!

I don’t see any separation between Justice, Puppets, Black, Load and 72. These are all excellent Metallica albums.
